Mahahual House Rental Photos and Description
2 bed 2 bath private home sleeps 6 maximum - Priced for four-but great for two!
Casita Dragonfly is an affordable single-family beachfront home for rent in the Mahahual's South Beach.. 11 kilometers south of downtown Mahahual and the hustle of the cruise ship port, you will find Casita Dragonfly, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms on a property that you can enjoy all to yourself.
Casita Dragonfly is not a resort, a duplex or a condo. It's your very own private slice of paradise. The beach road doesn't cut through the middle of the property as it does many places - here the road has been set back behind a wall of mangroves and a private gate. With only one house next door and a caretaker's house in between, you'll have the beachfront and the reef almost all to yourself. Whether you're with a group of up to four or on the perfect romantic getaway for two, Casita Dragonfly is the ultimate little Caribbean getaway....
About the House: This is a charming casita with two seperate floors connected by an EXTERIOR staircase, which makes it perfect for two couples who would like to rent together yet have privacy!
A hot water shower and cold water sinks in both bathrooms.
Another cold water Fresco shower outdoors! Wonderful!
Our caretakers clean the beach daily which is a wonderful luxury and can offer you housekeeping at an afforable price. The beach cleaning of course, is always free.
Due to Mahahual location there can be a lot of debris floating in from around the world and landing on beaches--sadly unoccupied beaches are not cleaned. The beach in front of the house and the house to the south is cleaned daily, we can't take responsibility for the other areas outside of this zone.
The house runs on solar power which means you must leave your high powered appliances at home. (really you MUST not use or bring)
the wind will dry your hair
the french press makes fabulous morning coffee
there is no microwave as there is no hurry!
There are fans, (and the fantastic 'Bed-Fans)' but no a/c so a bit of an adventurous spirit helps!
Luckily mother nature provides an almost constant breeze and you will be very comfortable on all but the hottest and stillest of days--and there are not that many!
About the area: Mahahual is a bustling cruise ship port some days of the week, but you would never know that at Casita Dragonfly. Down the coast and away from the cruise ship crowds, you may go an entire week seeing very few people. If you are looking for a true getaway, this is it.
As is the case of most of the houses in the area south of town---The house does not 'party'. The solar panels are depleted by lights left on all night, left on in every room in the house...or stereos that run all night. Casita Dragonfly wants to rest at night---and so do you so you can enjoy every moment of daylight. beautiful sunrises,
However, you can charge and use your laptops, your cameras, your cell phones--all of these are charges just like at home. Plug in and stay connected with our free Satellite internet at no cost to you
About you: If you are looking for an all inclusive resort, a party town, a concierge, this is not the right house.
If you need climate control and a swim up bar, this is not the right house.
If you have a bit of adventure, are conscientious, enjoy wildlife like iguanas, geckos, frogs, birds, fish, and beach dogs---you will love this here.
With all this nature, especially in the summer, remember there are mosquitos and tabano's in the area. always use a repellant. upon booking I supply much more detailed info!
you must also ENJOY the company of dogs. We have two beach dogs- and our caretakers have one--and if you are friendly to them, they will sleep on the porch and bark at anyone who even THINKS to approach the house. They are fickle and easy to win over--share a bit of your food and you are befriended for your stay. They are not beggers though. If you are mean to the dogs, they won't sleep on the porch, they will sleep at the caretakers porch.. In fact if you are mean to dogs--this is not the place for you. We treasure our beach dogs. We treasure the house. Lovers of natures, conservers of natural resourses are welcome.

Guestbook comments from the owner
The Casita was just great.
Hours on the kayak and in the ocean sprayed by Dolphin breath. Brandy is such a wonderful tough dog. The caretakers are very thoughtful. Tapas at the Travel Inn-yum! We even enjoyed the flooded road. On our way out the Pelicans were having a feast on thousands of fish being washed out of the jungle. The search for some fresh Sardine bait in Xcalak turned in to an afternoon of fishing with ****** on a dugout canoe his father made 60 years ago. What an amazing treat. Also a day to Santa Rosa where the bridge burned down. We gave our fish to a very hungry family and a monkey drank our beer. I'd like to go back in a couple weeks but no one can get away to come with me.
Gee it's fun to be home......I busted through the ice on the pond yesterday... went up to my knees.
We started our Mexico travels in Cancun, which got a bit to busy! Then south to Playa Del Carmen which followed the same pattern! We enjoy Akumal Mexico south of Playa del Carmen and also own a condo in Akumal , but it was the wide open space of Mahahaul that kept drawing us back over and over again!
The amount of space you can have to your self! The wide array of affordable dining! Accessiblity to the Banco Chinchorro from some of the dive shops in Mahahual. No shoes, no shirt? Literally no problem. Mahahual remains a small VERY laid back area with wonderful people from all parts of the world. If Cancun is your speed----Mahahual is NOT! and we like it like this!
