80 ACRE FARM WITH AN AWESOME VIEW OF THE AUSABLE VALLEY

Mio Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

2 bedroom renovated farmhouse, sleeps 4 to 6, 1 full bath, stainless kitchen

A Very Picturesque, Multi-Enjoyable 80-Acre Semi-Forested Farm Located in the Middle of Amish Country, Northwest of Mio, Michigan (Huron National Forest / AuSable State Forest)

The Farm is literally just minutes from AuSable River fishing, swimming, picnicking; canoeing/kayaking/tubing and launch sites. In addition, the Huron National Forest and AuSable State Forest offer hundreds of miles of trails for Hiking, Horseback Riding, ORV, Motorcycle and Groomed Snowmobile trails. By the way, ORV's are allowed on all Oscoda County Roads... Hey Golfers; ever heard of Garland? Just 13 miles away! Not a bad drive to enjoy a few great ones...

Our Farmhouse: Our quaint and cozy farmhouse, with a wrap-around valley view country porch, sleeps 4 to 6 and has been fully renovated (inside and out/top to bottom); especially the refurbishment of the original farm-grown and on-site milled hardwood flooring throughout, including the two upstairs bedrooms. The farmhouse features air-conditioning units on both floors; propane heat; telephones on both floors (free local & long distance calling) & answering machine; 3 Color TV's; Satellite DIRECTV; DVD; and VCR. Carbon dioxide, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and emergency lighting also provided. For your arrival security, a pre-assigned coded entry pad (no keys) awaits your private code input. For your convenience, the entry pad allows you to enter your own private entry code for the duration of your stay.

The Living Room consists of a full size La-Z-Boy Sleeper couch that pulls out to comfortably sleep two. A 32' TV with DIRECTV, DVD and VCR rounds out this entertainment center.

Kitchen and Dining Room: The Fully-Equipped Tiled Kitchen, with two tiled entries, is all stainless steel with two electric stove tops, each with overhead venting; oven; micro-wave and oven combination; dishwasher; ice making side-by-side refrigerator/freezer; 12-cup automatic drip coffee maker; electric can opener; blender; mixer; safety toaster; dish towels and wash cloths; Amish made Hickory cabinets; telephone; and DIRECTV. A gas grill, located just off the end of the lower deck, is also available for your outdoor grilling.

The Dining Room, located between the kitchen and living room, is very handy for preparing and serving snacks or meals from the peninsula stovetop kitchen counter. An antique dining room table, with an overhead stained glass chandelier, can seat six and can be extended to comfortably seat more (or, if nothing else, for the convenient placement of food). It is a warming experience having dinner, and through the dining room windows, watching big snowflakes floating down.

Our Property: The 80 acres consist of rolling/hilly meadows overlooking an awesome panoramic view of miles of the AuSable River Valley Forest; and a 3 acre, spring(s)-fed, stocked pond (beach deep up to 36 feet) featuring a 'right-on-the-shoreline' finished fishing cabin that offers electricity, propane heat, ceiling fan, covered porch and raised fire pit.

The property is as natural as natural can get. . . Groomed trails lead down from the meadows, through hardwood and evergreen forests (consisting of beautiful wooded valleys with four flowing streams) to and through beautiful cedar swamps. All trails are ideal for hiking; excellent morel mushroom hunting; ORV's/ATV's; horseback riding (except cedar trails); snowmobiling; cross-country skiing; and the meadows for tobogganing. By the way, the property also contains many secluded areas for outpost (self-contained camper/tent) camping.

The Pond-Side Finished Fishing Cabin makes for an excellent hangout for tubing, catch and release fishing, etc.

This location FAR exceeded out expectations. Will absolutely make this our family tradition!

The farm house was well prepared and very accommodating. We loved the front porch for morning coffee and watched the birds. We saw the pileated woodpeckers which was a first. The hummers came regularly. We also experienced a group of about 20 wild turkeys - adults and young and younger ones. The children loved fishing in the pond and paddling their kayaks.

An absolutely wonderful experience in rural northern Michigan. From quaint, humble, Amish community explorations, to hours of of enjoying your own private farmhouse, acreage and pond, AuSable Valley View exceeds all expectations. Simply put, thanks don't seem enough. Your gem is my secret. Looking forward to experiencing the fall colors someday, and another trip with the kids down to the pond.

Farmhouse Stay Review

This was our 2nd time staying at the Farmhouse for 4th of July weekend. The house is spotlessly clean, and includes everything you could possibly need and more. It’s amazing how you can walk into a hotel room, and it will feel cold and un-inviting, but walking onto this property invites you to sit, relax, swing on the porch, walk through the woods, fish and paddle boat on the pond, sit around the fire pit at night (wood was already chopped and waiting)…it all seems just like home. The wrap-around porch is so enticing to sit on, and just breathe in the clean country air and listen to the birds (other than the birds it is complete and blissful silence). The Pileated woodpecker at the suet feeder was exciting to see, the buzz of the wings on the hummingbird at that feeder, and the Eastern bluebird family in the birdhouse gave us a lot to watch while relaxing on the porch.

The farmhouse is a quick drive to the AuSable River, so our daily kayaking trips were easy entries from both the South branch of the AuSable one day (quiet and picturesque) and the Mio Dam another day (lots of people on tubes having a great time). We couldn't have asked for anything more from our stay. All in all, I'd easily give the farmhouse and our stay 5+ stars.

I also recommend eating at Lost Creek Sky Ranch in the neighboring town of Luzerne (just a quick 10 minute drive from the farmhouse)...incredible food and a family feel right down to the hostess who seats you…(sweetest little ole lady on the planet I think)! I don’t recommend Ma Deeters, as the food wasn’t very good (although the pizza that was served to other tables did smell and look good…we wished we had gotten the pizza). We will definitely be returning to the farmhouse again this fall for a fall color kayak trip down the AuSable.

Fantastic stay in Hemingway country. We wandered around some secret spots on fabled northern streams and then settled into the farmhouse to focus on the Ausable River. We saw a mating pair of Pileated Woodpeckers most days along with a host if song birds. The house was perfect and we will be back again!
