Photos and Description of the Mio vacation farmhouse rental
2 bedroom renovated farmhouse, sleeps 4 to 6, 1 full bath, stainless kitchen

A Very Picturesque, Multi-Enjoyable 80-Acre Semi-Forested Farm Located in the Middle of Amish Country, Northwest of Mio, Michigan (Huron National Forest / AuSable State Forest)

The Farm is literally just minutes from AuSable River fishing, swimming, picnicking; canoeing/kayaking/tubing and launch sites. In addition, the Huron National Forest and AuSable State Forest offer hundreds of miles of trails for Hiking, Horseback Riding, ORV, Motorcycle and Groomed Snowmobile trails. By the way, ORV's are allowed on all Oscoda County Roads... Hey Golfers; ever heard of Garland? Just 13 miles away! Not a bad drive to enjoy a few great ones...

Our Farmhouse: Our quaint and cozy farmhouse, with a wrap-around valley view country porch, sleeps 4 to 6 and has been fully renovated (inside and out/top to bottom); especially the refurbishment of the original farm-grown and on-site milled hardwood flooring throughout, including the two upstairs bedrooms. The farmhouse features air-conditioning units on both floors; propane heat; telephones on both floors (free local & long distance calling) & answering machine; 3 Color TV's; Satellite DIRECTV; DVD; and VCR. Carbon dioxide, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and emergency lighting also provided. For your arrival security, a pre-assigned coded entry pad (no keys) awaits your private code input. For your convenience, the entry pad allows you to enter your own private entry code for the duration of your stay.

The Living Room consists of a full size La-Z-Boy Sleeper couch that pulls out to comfortably sleep two. A 32' TV with DIRECTV, DVD and VCR rounds out this entertainment center.

Kitchen and Dining Room: The Fully-Equipped Tiled Kitchen, with two tiled entries, is all stainless steel with two electric stove tops, each with overhead venting; oven; micro-wave and oven combination; dishwasher; ice making side-by-side refrigerator/freezer; 12-cup automatic drip coffee maker; electric can opener; blender; mixer; safety toaster; dish towels and wash cloths; Amish made Hickory cabinets; telephone; and DIRECTV. A gas grill, located just off the end of the lower deck, is also available for your outdoor grilling.

The Dining Room, located between the kitchen and living room, is very handy for preparing and serving snacks or meals from the peninsula stovetop kitchen counter. An antique dining room table, with an overhead stained glass chandelier, can seat six and can be extended to comfortably seat more (or, if nothing else, for the convenient placement of food). It is a warming experience having dinner, and through the dining room windows, watching big snowflakes floating down.

Our Property: The 80 acres consist of rolling/hilly meadows overlooking an awesome panoramic view of miles of the AuSable River Valley Forest; and a 3 acre, spring(s)-fed, stocked pond (beach deep up to 36 feet) featuring a 'right-on-the-shoreline' finished fishing cabin that offers electricity, propane heat, ceiling fan, covered porch and raised fire pit.

The property is as natural as natural can get. . . Groomed trails lead down from the meadows, through hardwood and evergreen forests (consisting of beautiful wooded valleys with four flowing streams) to and through beautiful cedar swamps. All trails are ideal for hiking; excellent morel mushroom hunting; ORV's/ATV's; horseback riding (except cedar trails); snowmobiling; cross-country skiing; and the meadows for tobogganing. By the way, the property also contains many secluded areas for outpost (self-contained camper/tent) camping.

The Pond-Side Finished Fishing Cabin makes for an excellent hangout for tubing, catch and release fishing, etc.

Wonderful Stay at AuSable Valley View Farm

Submitted: September 5, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
We traveled to the AuSable Valley View Farm from Texas and had an "up-north" experience we won't soon forget. The farmhouse was completely updated, immaculately kept and fully functional. We enjoyed cooking our meals in the well stocked kitchen. It had all the necessary appliances for creating your own fare and we rarely ate out. We thoroughly enjoyed the groomed grounds, trails and the ability to have a responsible campfire. But what we mostly enjoyed was the peaceful atmosphere of the farm and the cool weather (we visited in August). We saw many birds at the feeders, fish at the pond, and as many as 15 turkeys feeding & wondering about every day of our stay. We hope to come again and bring friends.

Guest Review

Submitted: August 16, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
I happened across your house when I was looking for a waterfront availability through RentalBug. The VRBO listing popped up through my search. With disappoint on not finding what we were hoping for on the water with such short notice, I decided to book with you guys. The pictures were amazing, but I had my reservations about having as much fun as we could if we had booked a room or cottage with access to the water.

I really don't know how to express in words, the enjoyment that we had staying at the farm. I realize I run the risk of sounding like I am pretty far out there when I tell you, the feelings, memories and beauty we experienced were literally priceless. I cried when we left. We had such an amazing time. I have travelled to islands and mountains, but last weekend was by far, hands down, the best trip we have ever had. Your home was beautiful, the grounds were amazing, but it was so much more than just that. The air, the view, the energy was perfect and then some. Again, I don't mean to sound like I am off my rocker, but it brought my family closer. I will forever remember ringing your bell to gather the family for dinner (in your perfectly well supplied kitchen) laughing and sharing our daily adventures.

I am so grateful that I found your place, and thankful to you in more ways than you can understand.

DREAM VACATION

5 of 5
Submitted: June 21, 2012 Stayed: June 2012
Searching for Farm; Amish; MI found this unbelievably perfect VRBO listing.
I am an artist, had a portrait to draw and wanted solitude.
The very best part was "listening" to the silence. All my favorites: red hip roof barn, wrap around porch, a pond and the clop-clop of Amish buggies. Took me a couple days there to make sure I wasn't dreaming. The Old Order Amish population is totally uncommercialized. Good restaurants in Mio. I will be going there twice a year.

Nice long weekend at the farm

Submitted: May 22, 2012 Stayed: May 2012
We had a very nice trip, with great weather for mid May, lots of wildlife around the property, especially a great mix of birds. Very nice pond on the property, caught bass, bluegills and catfish on the flyrod, visited the Amish stores, the Kirtland warbler habitat and hit the backroads for some good photo-ops. Had a couple of minor things pop up and Gene was quick to respond and handle them! One of the best equipped kitchens we have found in over 30 stays at rentals. Would definitely stay again at the farm.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I'm glad you had a nice trip and enjoyed the pond, wildlife and shopping at the Amish stores. I also appreciate that you took such good care of our home. I look forward to hearing from you again. Sincerely, Tina

We had a fabulous time

Submitted: December 5, 2011 Stayed: November 2011
We had a fabulous time, the accommodations were superb! We were all impressed with the amenities of the house. It was up to and beyond my expectations.

Gene was a valuable asset, in both his advice, and helping us get adjusted to our surroundings, so quickly. It appears, that he is doing a remarkable job, keeping everything purring sweetly.

As I promised, we left the farmhouse, as clean as it was, when we arrived, which was pristine. We are interested in possibly leasing it again, next season, if it is available. We also discussed coming up there this summer with the grandkids. We think that they would love running free and playing in all of that open space.

Thanks again, and tell Gene thanks, for all of his help.
