Berkeley House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 8 comfortably - room for more, big kitchen

Located for quick access to everything in the Bay Area: near North Berkeley BART (quick ride to San Francisco, San Jose, most major Bay Area locations), near UC Berkeley, Monterey Market (best fresh produce in the bay, where the chefs shop), many gourmet restaurants, and other hot spots. Easy access to all major forms of transport but just in case you change your mind, an Enterprise car rental agency is within quick walking distance.

Best value for your dollar in the Bay area.

Free wifi, phone, Wii game system, 42' TV, various supplies for your work and play including several bikes and helmets, including kid's bikes.

Hardwood floors throughout, tourist travel guides supplied, washer, dryer, ironing board and iron.

Home is ideal for meals. Dining room with executive size 8+ seater large table or a comfortable table for smaller groups at the end of a long day. All modern supplies needed for cooking healthy meals. A breakfast table in the kitchen allows for comfortable morning meals.

Master King bed private oasis in back, second bedroom with a Full bed (can sleep 1 or 2 comfortably), third bedroom with two bunkbeds (can sleep 4 with 2 in upper bunks and 2 on twin beds below). There are also two air mattresses available to use.

If you are considering booking for 2014, a few details:

* Usually the home is booked far in advance for Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you are looking for a home during the holidays, grab this one before it gets booked like usual.

* If you haven't seen Berkeley over Halloween, come check it out! While the street this house is on is quiet (maybe one or two trick-or-treaters if you're home) about 12 blocks away is an amazing neighborhood that does over-the-top decorations. Over the years we've seen a real historical cannon that shot candy into the air, raining it down on the tirck-or-treaters, as well as several walk-through haunted houses, all just part of the friendly neighborhood fun.

* Book New Year's far in advance and see the San Francisco fireworks, a must see on many people's bucket lists.

Remember, Berkeley usually has comfortable weather during the winter, so relax and enjoy your vacation using this home as a landing spot.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

About April Brewster

Hi, I'm Cathy. My family and I have lived all over: several states on the west coast, New Zealand, several European countries and we've visited 30+ more great hot spots on the map, mostly for work. Plus, we love traveling. As of 2009, my husband and I now both work remotely. We can live anywhere but wanted to keep our CA party pad so thank goodness for HomeAway and VRBO! We love the location and have many good friends in Berkeley and throughout the Bay Area. We're fun-loving, nomadic explorers and we're grateful for all the people who have come to Berkeley to enjoy the area like we have. So much to explore!

April Brewster purchased this house in 2006

Why April Brewster chose Berkeley

My husband and I purchased this Berkeley home in 2005-2006 when we needed convenient access to *everything*. We had 4 kids going to 4 different schools and both of us commuting: me all over the Bay area (SF, San Mateo, Palo Alto in particular) and my husband with a daily commute to Emeryville. None of us like commuting. We want to get where we're going then play! There is so much to explore in the Bay Area and we loved the convenience. The houses in the Berkeley hills have pretty views, but it takes longer to get to them and convenience took a higher priority.

We wanted a place that was big enough for all of us, with space for sleepovers for the kids and a massive kitchen since homecooked food can be so healthy and good. One of this house's best features is its large kitchen and central, large dining room, great for family meals. The house was everything we needed plus more.

What makes this house unique

The large kitchen is what attracts most people to this house. Being able to cook your own food is excellent for this particular area because:

1. If your budget is tight, cooking a few meals in-house can slice significant money off your budget!

2. There are several superb, unique grocery stores nearby, including a fresh produce market, Monterey Market, that has some of the best produce in the world. Having a great kitchen helps you take full advantage of it.

Also, compared to other rentals in the area, this home is perfectly located -- it's close to the freeway, but several blocks away so it's in a family neighborhood. It's less than 10 blocks from the main freeway whereas many rental houses are 25 to 35 blocks (or more) across town. When you're vacationing, the last thing you want to do is commute. It's why we bought it -- we wanted to spend our days relaxing and playing with the kids (not driving). The public transit and easy walking around town made this home ideal.

Guestbook comments from the owner

From Trevor Moore, an Olympic athlete competing in sailing:

"Our time at your home was perfect in every way. Thank you very much. Thank you so much for your email. As Olympic athletes it is great to know fellow enthusiasts are passing along our story."

Great house in nice location!

  • 4 of 5

The house was really nice. Very roomy, well-equipped. My biggest complaint is that we were hardly there since we were at a conference days and evenings.

Anyone looking for a home base within easy transit distance from SF would do well to try this place.

Best Place Ever

  • 5 of 5

This house was incredible. Huge kitchen, super comfy couches, a great long table that fit all of us for our working retreat. The backyard area was nice and breezy as well.

It was stocked full of everything we could need: toiletries, towels, bedding, kitchen supplies. Everything was labelled, tons of dishes for all of our needs.

Location was perfect! Tons of stuff nearby, quick drive to downtown Berkeley.

There were two downsides, but neither was the owner's fault. It turns out having 8-9 people in a house with one bathroom can be kind of tricky. And the wifi kept cutting out on us as we were working, but it's probably because there were 8-9 devices all simultaneously using it and it wasn't capable of handling that.

Overall, great stay!

Excellent 'Home from Home'

  • 5 of 5

We felt at home immediately upon arrival as listing photos are so accurate. The property was clean and comfortable and amazingly well equipped. I particularly appreciated the plenteous supply of household necessities; toilet paper, dish and laundry detergents, paper towels ... such a relief not to run out of essentials and have to take holiday time to do mundane shopping. Property is large and well organised, we made good use of the charging station supplied for varied electronic devices. It was a perfect house for us to host (large) family get togethers, and well situated for walking to Berkeley centre (Shattuck BART 1.5 miles) 4th St shops less than a mile. ACME bakery literally around the corner, also an excellent coffee shop next to bakery and Cafe Leila, (also around the corner on San Pablo Ave), a good place to eat. From North Berkeley BART station (.5 mi ) it is an easy journey into SF, also easy drive (traffic allowing!) to SF with freeway exit very close. April (owner) is friendly and helpful. She answered and dealt with our queries immediately. We were delighted with all aspects of the rental and recommend if whole heartedly.

Great Location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a mini family reunion in the Bay Area and this rental was a perfect base. The house is close to shopping, dining, mass transit and parks. We walked to Bart and attended a game at AT&T Park and had a group dinner close by at Picante.

House is very well stocked as the photos show. It was nice to have a few staples in the cupboard (oil, vinegar, spices). Thank you!

I would definitely recommend to a friend or relative looking for a place that kids can relax and enjoy.

Nice home and nice location

  • 5 of 5

The house was very clean and had everything needed to feel like its your house. Working with April is very pleasant and easy. She was very sincere in ensuring we had a great stay. The service of getting your food order before you arrive really helped and saved time. My uncle forgot his medicine unfortunately and April took the time to fed ex the medicine over night. The proximity to BART was nice and there are so many tasty places to eat near by and all around the area. The little cafe down the street has quality organic food choices and unique tea choices. There was even a cool old school jazz trio to enjoy as we ate our food. The area is quiet but yet close to the freeway when arriving or departing. Overall I would definitely come back to this house when I make my way back to the great town of Berkeley.

We know it's tough for large parties to get by on one bathroom. We lived with six people and one bathroom for many years and never had an issue, but know that it is just a single bathroom. Full tub / shower and plenty of storage.
  • 3 Bedrooms, Sleeps 10
  • Master Bedroom - 1 king , 8 pillows for maximum comfort
Bedroom 3 - 1 double , Full sized bed with side table.
Bedroom 2 - 4 twin/ single , Two twin bunkbeds (4 twin beds total), two desks also
  • Three bedrooms including: a full Master, a room with four twin beds (bunkbeds), and a third bedroom with a full size (double) bed, all with regular closets. Notes for large parties: If you need to you can use the two sofas in the living room. The long sofa can be a sleeping spot for an adult. The 2 seater sofa is of course shorter and more appropriate for a child. There are also blow up mattresses you can put in various locations depending on what you need. The most we have ever had in the home was 18 people plus a few small children, but that was surely too many! Thankfully there were all sweet, fun, and had a great time. When we lived in the home, our four children (six people total) lived comfortably with occasional sleepovers with friends.
