Fantastic weekend getaway destination!

  • 5 of 5
What a fantastic get away this was!! The room we stayed in had the most magnificant views, it was adorably decorated, and had everything we needed for our fun weekend! The location is amazing, walk right out your door and your in th e heart of it all! Next time we want to bring another couple along (there are two rooms next to eachother) and use the porch area a bit more! We will be back for sure!

A WONDERFUL CENTRAL PLACE

  • 5 of 5
The perfect place to stay if you want to be central and walk to the village or eat out at night. We stayed a week and loved the place, it was clean, tidy and has nice linen. The views are to die for and it was a pleasure to sit on the balcony and take in the fabulous rocks every day. I can highly recommend this place to other travelers and will use again - thanks for a great place to stay.

sweet spot

  • 5 of 5
After a long day of road tripping, we were fortunate enough to find this sweet place to rest our bodies and souls.... so much better than a generic hotel/motel ! We felt like we were home, cool design, awesome shower, great deluxe towels, comphy bed, kitchenette and with the bonus of waking up in beautiful Sedona. Everything we needed was within walking distance as well. Thank you for this little tucked away gem ! We will be back

Quiet, close to Uptown, and on a budget!

  • 4 of 5
We were traveling 7 days through AZ with 3 nights focused on Sedona for our 25th wedding anniversary. Not wanting to break the bank, but with most low range hotels in the $200's plus I found TheRoomsUpstairs. The reviews led me there and I am happy we booked. Kimberly is top notch with responding to emails and offering advice and recommendations. The building is a business downstairs and two rooms upstairs, free parking, and VERY easy access by walk to Uptown. There is a shared patio, with chairs and grill but we were alone so we had it to ourselves. Yes it overlooks another motel behind you, but so will most of the Uptown hotels. It's a quaint little town built into a mountain. And behind the motel is a gorgeous sunrise view of the mountains. The room is spacious, quiet, clean, the bathroom large with a soaking tub, and the kitchenette was all we needed for our 2 nights here....coffee, mini frig, sink and wine glasses. We were vacationing and if you go with the notion that you are barely in your room (go sightseeing, that's what Sedona offers) you will be happy. If you are doing the Pink Jeep tour, you can walk to their offices for pickup. (Under 5 mins). Right around the corner is Theias, a coffee/light breakfast place for FAR more affordable then downtown and she opens at 6:30 vs every place opens at 7 am. Right up Jordan road is Jordan Park and a GORGEOUS all morning hike up Brins Mesa. Absolutely a beautiful start to any day. Plenty of "glorified fast food" places to eat uptown and an easy drive to the "must see while in Sedona" $$$ places. (Except Enchantment which is a 25 minute drive. We found the Golden Goose up 89 which is a locals favorite and after a disappointing meal at Enchantment, we canceled L'Auberge (creek side dining would be rained out due to monsoon season and did I mention we were on a budget???) And we ended up eating a WONDERFUL dinner at Golden goose. Don't let exterior or location fool you. Sedona streets roll up early and they closed at 8pm for dinner. (?) as do most places by 9-10. I was very happy with choosing The Rooms Upstairs. For two couples who want privacy and no hotel crowds, this would be ideal. It is a dimly lit area and towards residential near Jordan Rd and as a female, I would not stay here alone. But with my husband I felt safe as should everyone visiting Sedona which has no crime rate. Close to town, 89, Slide rock! Pink jeep tours, restaurants, hikes, and all very affordable.

Does not live up to expectations

  • 1 of 5
We arrived at the location expecting an award winning building what we found was an old stucco building an a dirt and gravel parking lot. Not very appealing, the patio on the second floor was set up with some wrought iron chairs and a couple of small tables. We stayed in the king room which was well supplied the bed was very comfortable and the location had air conditioning. The small kitchen area was adequate and well supplied. Unfortunately the first morning my wife woke up she found and killed a ROACH in the kitchen sink. Additionally the kitchen sink would not drain so we used the toilet plunger to clear the drain. This put a damper on our entire stay. We had to move all are dry goods into the small refrigerator not wanting to feed the pesky critters!!! The view was overlooking an old apartment building and electrical lines!
We would not recommend this location and would never stay again! We left the location two days early because of the forest fires and the ash and smoke in the air. The owner left a message on my cell phone indicating that the fires were not close enough and the smoke was not a problem. However the news reported the fire was out of control 5 days later only 10% contained. The fire doubled in size the day we left and we estimated we were approximately eight miles from the slide rock fire. For safety and health concerns we decided to leave early. The owner made no attempt to negotiate the last two days on the rental.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review. While living in the desert, we do come across critters from time to time. We would have been happy to take care of this house guest for you if we had been notified. While we do neighbor an apartment complex, we are very proud of and are regularly complimented on our red rock views. Being on the second story of this building allows us to see breathtaking red rocks from inside the rooms as well as from the terrace, a favorite feature amongst our past guests.
Also, we are very grateful for the firefighters who worked so hard to fight the fire in the Oak Creek Canyon. While we are very sad about our neighbors damage in the beloved Canyon, we are happy to report that our area was never in an evacuation, or pre-evacuation zone during this event and would most certainly have notified our guests if that would have changed at any time.

Convenient location to hiking trails.

  • 5 of 5
I really enjoyed the convenience to multiple trails and stunning views! It was great to go for a morning hike then grabbing a great cup of coffee from down the block and coming back and sitting on the deck to watch the sunrise. The king room was very comfortable and had everything that I needed for a week long stay in Sedona. I look forward to making it an annual trip.
