A self catering holiday rental in beautiful countryside, sleeps 10.

Large stone-built farmhouse, situated on the edge of the Gresigne Forest at the head of a valley with wonderful views, the villa is surrounded by fields and meadows. Accommodation includes two large double bedrooms (one en-suite) and three twins with two further bathrooms. The fully fitted modern kitchen includes washing machine, dishwasher, gas hob and large electric oven. The dining room has a large farmhouse table to seat ten. The lounge comprises a comfortable seating area with TV, video and DVD,with a selection of videos and DVDs. An ipod dock and CD player are available for your music.There is a large open fire for cooler evenings in spring and autumn. Adjoining the lounge is a games area with full size table tennis table and selection of games and books. The house is surrounded by beautiful gardens. A range of outdoor furniture is provided including large and small tables, chairs, parasols, loungers and cushions. BBQ equipment is available. The large pool with child-friendly steps at shallow end is fully maintained.

We can supply a child travel cot and highchair.

Golf: There are several first class golf courses within easy reach. Of particular note is Palmola golf club which is an 18 hole course between Albi and Toulouse.

Walking: The area is a paradise for walkers and ramblers. The terrain ranges from quiet lanes through sleepy villages to the grandeur of the Aveyron river gorges with some testing ascents and descents!

Cycling: This areas attraction for cyclists has long been a French secret, but now increasing numbers of cyclists from abroad are coming to experience its pleasures and challenges! Whether you are looking for a gentle meander along the lanes as a prelude to an excellent lunch in one of the local restaurants, to test your skills on one of the many off road trails, or for hill training for your next triathlon, this area is for you.

There are two mountain bikes for your use at the house.

About Anne Cadman

We bought La Poumayrette the year my third child was born and it became a wonderful family holiday home for many years as the children were growing up. Nowadays they visit with their friends and are keener on climbing than building dens in the forest! I live in Devon - so obviously have an affinity with the south west - and visit La Poumayrette regularly throughout the year. My main challenge is the garden! Temperatures can reach 40 in the summer and plunge to - 15 in the winter. Add the attentions of the deer and the wild boar and you can see the challenge! A big thank you to all the guests who care for it during their holiday.

We travelled extensively in France before buying the house. I just love the area: it's relaxed, unspoilt and local people are very welcoming. Lying beside the pool watching the buzzards and listening to the crickets is my idea of heaven!

What makes this farmhouse unique

La Poumayrette has something special to offer in every season. Summer's long hot days are wonderful, but in autumn you can hear the bellow of the rutting stags and their clashing antlers, and in Spring and early Summer the meadows are full of orchids and other wild flowers. I suppose what I love above all is that sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine in my hand I have spectacular views down the valley for over 50 kilometres without another house or human being in sight!

A corner of Paradise

La Poumayrette was simply gorgeous in an idyllic position. In the Gresigne forest, with wildlife and greenery in abundance, this holiday gite afforded the ultimate rural retreat. Local shops in nearby Bruniquel/ Penne meant that although we had a wonderful feeling of isolation, it wasn't too far away to nip out for essentials. (We did the big shops during the stay in Montauban where the Leclerc store had everything and reasonable prices).

The gite itself is lovely - really spacious, comfortable and with plenty of character it was well appointed with everything you could need for a great stay.The kitchen was great and the cookbooks provided by the thoughtful owners were well used for two weeks of al fresco dining. The lounge was comfy and welcoming and all the bedrooms/ bathrooms were excellent with plenty of storage space. The pool was beautiful - pristine and with plenty of pool-side furniture for long afternoons relaxing in luxury.

During our stay we saw deer, a pine-marten, butterflies, owls and hawks and possibly the best view of the night sky we had ever seen.

For days out we got as far as Carcassonne ( well worth a visit), Narbonne plage, Cordes-sur-ceil (utterly magical) and Montricoux. We went regularly to the nearby and delightful little medieval town of St Antonin Noble Val (don't miss the market on Sunday morning!) and went canoeing/kayaking from there. We also discovered a superb restaurant there called Tentation Beffroi and the service/ food were excellent and to be recommended.

The whole experience was superb - from booking with Ann the owner who is very helpful and efficient and gave us plenty of information and clear directions etc, to the property itself which was absolutely charming ( thoughtful touches like books, DVD's and tourist info all provided were appreciated) and to the area which although quite unspoiled provided a wonderful family holiday for us all - that has left us all keen to return.

We recommend it most highly for a really wonderful, relaxing holiday in a fabulous location

Owner's Response: I don't think there is anything I can add to this! Debbie's comments reflect the experience of all our guests and as you can see from the web site there are many other delightful historic towns and villages in the area to visit.

Debbie stayed at La Poumayrette in mid-summer but it is also a wonderful spot for a late spring/early summer holiday when the fields and road sides are ablaze with orchids, poppies,wild roses and many others.

Just Wonderful

The best holiday ever was the unanimous vote from the whole family; all ten of us and three generations.

Upon arrival we were simply blown away by the beautifully renovated house, its layout, internal space and of course the wonderful swimming pool. La Poumayrette is set in the most beautiful location and offers peace and tranquillity in abundance.

On a practical level, the house worked really well with everything one needed to self cater and sufficient bathrooms for the ten of us. The house inside is comfortably furnished and there were enough sun loungers and cushions around the pool for everyone. The pool itself was efficiently serviced twice a week by a very friendly and chatty technician who probably has the best job in the world.

Although there are no.immediate neighbours we did meet families who lived along the track and they were all ready to stop for a chat; all very nice.

As we were in August we were spoilt for choice with things to do. The canoeing from St Antonin to Penne was fantastic and the less taxing pursuits of wine tasting and visiting some of the amazing bastides equally enjoyable.

In conclusion, this has to be the perfect place to stay.

Perfect position and accomodation

Poumayrette exceeded expectations. Beautiful rural location yet close enough to shops and a good centre for visiting many interesting medieval towns and vineyards. The house was equipped with everything and the pool beautifully maintained. We were recommended this property by friends and would recommend to our friends. The weather was excellent and so we enjoyed a mixture of sight seeing and plenty of relaxation at Poumayrette.

Delightful stay in beautiful surroundings

My partner and I, along with her parents spent a delightful week at La Poumayrette last September.
Although the weather was not at it's best during the week of our stay, it did not detract from the wonderful time we had.

The property has been restored to a high standard and is clearly well maintained. The layout of the interior, being arranged in an 'L - shape' with two distinct wings, provides plenty of space for two sets of couples (or families) sharing the farmhouse, without the problems encountered when trying to share just one upstairs bathroom.

The living room is extremely spacious, with far reaching views towards the most beautiful sunsets to the east. Plenty of games and a well stocked library of books are provided for entertainment and a huge log burning stove makes for a very homely feel.

The kitchen was spotlessly clean and well provided with everything (and more) one might require during a holiday stay abroad. I thought the welcoming pack of fruit, bread and wine was a nice touch and greatly appreciated on our arrival.

Outside there are various areas to sit to catch the most of the sun as it passes over, or the shade if that's what's preferred, whilst numerous sun loungers surround a good sized pool.

We particularly enjoyed the location of this property, being situated some distance off the nearest road, along a track shared with only a handful of other houses. This makes for an extremely peaceful and tranquil setting, with plenty of wildlife to see and hear from the doorstep. We regularly saw deer close to the house, along with a wide variety of birdlife.

Although a car is essential and the property feels remote, there are many interesting towns and villages to explore within short travelling times from the house. Most contain wonderful restaurants and cafes and many an hour can be spent simply strolling aimlessly around the narrow streets and absorbing the atmosphere of these beautiful settlements.

For those seeking recommendations regarding restaurants and other attractions to visit, there is a well stocked folder of information in the property, which appears to get updated quite regularly.

There are numerous walks available here, and again a good description of many of the local walks are included within the property folder.

I would thoroughly recommend this property for a relaxing week or two in the most beautiful and tranquil of settings and I certainly plan to return soon.

Incredible!!!

We had an absolutely incredible week at this beautiful house. It had everything we needed for a self catering holiday - the owner Anne has thought of everything. The kitchen is extremelynwell equipped, there are books, games and i havent even mentioned the pool! The garden is beautifully kept and there is plenty of room to eat lazy lunches admiring the view! Also worth oting is the amount of space. There were 7 of us, yet still plenty of space! We visited many of the small Bastide towns surrounding the house, which are well worth having a look at.

I cannot wait to return soon! Thanks for sharing your beautiful home!

Idyllic Spot

Such a beautiful house in such an idyllic spot. Rush hour is one car a day going along the track at the side of the house!

The house is beautifully positioned with magnificent views down the valley - a perfect spot for early evening drinks to watch the deer coming into graze.

The house is nicely furnished with simple but effective decor. There is ample bedding and towels. etc. Everywhere was clean and well maintained. The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of pots, pans and dishes for any meal.

The pool was very well maintained and crystal clear. The gardens are beautiful. Someone has obviously spent a lot of time over the years making them look so lovely!

What I couldn't get over was how peaceful the whole area was. All you could hear were birds singing. At night there are sounds of other animals - not quite sure what, but much rustling and snorting.

There are lovely but simple restaurants nearby. The information book in the house lists these. This booklet is extremely useful and informative. We ate at home on several occasions. The local produce is lovely and Saint Antonine market is very definitely the place to visit if you want to self cater.

The provision of books, games and cd's are a lovely touch and make this house a real "home from home".

The local towns are well worth exploring. A little hilly perhaps, but there's usually a well placed bar or cafe to help out!

The owner - Anne - was very helpful in the run up to our holiday. She obviously knows the area well and nothing is too much trouble. She pointed us in the right direction for supermarkets and trips out. However we didn't go far. The walks around the house itself are lovely and packed full of nature to observe.

The whole experience was a treasure. We loved everything about the house. It was so peaceful we relaxed and unwound very quickly. Just what we needed. And we're already pencilling in May for our next visit.

La Poumayrette is in an area of the Midi Pyrenees famous for its hundreds of medieval towns known as 'Bastides'. Perched high on rocky hilltops, villages like Puycelsi, Penne and Bruniquel have watched over the surrounding countryside since the thirteenth century. Deserving of special mention is Cordes-sur-Ciel, one of France's most beautiful towns. With its wealth of medieval architecture, its many resident artists and craftsmen and its dozens of restaurants it is a magical place to visit. The nearest village is Penne, a spectacularly beautiful medieval village with its ruined chateau suspended over the gorge of the River Aveyron. Further along the river the old town of St Antonin-Noble Val offers many activities including canoeing and rock climbing. It has a wonderful Sunday market and a modern cinema showing English language films. Many of the local towns and villages hold colourful summer festivals with live music and fireworks. Several excellent golf courses are in easy reach.
