|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Come relax at the River House, our beautiful two-story cabin with breathtaking views of the river. This tranquil getaway is located on the banks of the Colorado, just minutes from historic downtown Smithville, Texas.
After you’ve napped on the deck, walk down through our small pecan orchard and enjoy private access to the river. Fish from the banks, or wade in and go swimming, tubing, kayaking or canoeing. In the evening, you’ll have a front row seat for our lovely Texas sunsets and starry nights.
For a change of pace, stroll down Main Street and check out all the wonderful antique shops and restaurants nearby.
Many films are shot in Smithville, including Sandra Bullock’s Hope Floats, as well as the upcoming film, Tree of Life, starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn. Take a tour of all the featured locations throughout town, then come home and browse through our extensive video library.
The house is also an easy 30 minutes east of the Circuit of the Americas track, so you don't have to deal with Austin traffic. Come stay with us for Formula 1 Grand Prix, X Games and all the other great COTA events!
The River House is a great destination for birdwatchers. Come discover the many species of birds that live on the banks of the Colorado. If you’re there at the right time of year, you’ll even see our family of bald eagles!
During your visit, you'll enjoy the best of both worlds: peaceful, easy country living with all the modern conveniences. This spacious, four-bedroom, two-bath house has all the comforts of home, including WiFi and HD TV. We also have a sunny study upstairs with it’s own private balcony. The master bedroom on the first floor has a connecting bathroom that also leads into the main living area. Upstairs you'll find the three additional bedrooms, sunroom and separate bath.

Hannah Neal purchased this house in 2011
Smithville has long been one of my favorite retreats. Its easy pace and tranquil atmosphere are a great escape from the hustle and bustle of city living.
I want to thank you so much for your hospitality and for providing such a peaceful and tranquil getaway - hideaway! It truly felt like "home." Beautiful setting, beautiful home! We are already planning our next visit!
Again, thank you!
Hannah, thank you so much for a great long weekend! Your place was just right for us...convenient location, beautiful surroundings, plenty of room, comfortable, and appointed with everything we needed. We especially enjoyed being able to bring our dog along and the safety of the enclosed yard. We had her mostly on leash outside, but it was nice being able to let her out briefly as needed (as long as the chickens weren't around!). We enjoyed the rainy days and the beautiful, clear days, and the gazillions of pecans (yes, I got enough for my Thanksgiving pie!). We saw a woodpecker doing his work on a tree by the river and I managed to get some decent shots of him. The location was perfect for us: 15 minutes to Bastrop, 15 minutes to LaGrange, and a new town of Smithville to explore, too. We found a couple new scenic roads and incidentally found Bone Spirits while driving around downtown...that was a fun stop! Thanks to you for everything. We hope to be back soon!

Thanks again, and hope you have a good Thanksgiving! We look forward to our next stay!
This house is perfect for a little family getaway. There is plenty of room and the property is gorgeous. So much room to run around outside and the river was so nice. Everyone had such a good time, we will definitely be back.
Very beautiful!! The river and pecan grove, also everything is so green. We really enjoyed the river (be careful of current going around to second park). The home was comfortable and roomy. Be ready to climb some stairs, and quite a hike down the yard to the river. We enjoyed the exercise, and loved having our dogs with us.
...such a truly peaceful place to be in an achingly beautiful setting - the riverfront cabin is perfect for a chance to 'get away from it all' without feeling isolated or disconnected. large enough to make it fun for the whole family, intimate enough for a couple's weekend.
the various decks and views are not to be missed and there's nothing quite like sitting out watching the sun set over the colorado river with a cocktail in hand.
Our small church reserved this space for a weekend retreat, and it was perfect! The house was basic and very comfortable, with plenty of room for the six people we had. Kitchen is well-stocked with cooking gear (we made cookies in the oven, as well as buying free-range eggs from the neighbor for a delicious omelette!) and dishes. Peaceful location was great for getting work done, as well as relaxation - we spent lots of time sitting on the back porch with our guitars and a glass of wine or beer, enjoying the serene surroundings. Loved the goats next door, as well! The house's owner was very responsive and helpful when we had questions - we got quick replies to our texts and emails. Wifi was good but got a little slow - probably due to having six highly wired people walk through the doors with phones, computers and ipads! Not a big deal, however - we were able to get online without much trouble.
Note for those with older or younger guests - there are lots of stairs! If your little ones and elders are good with that, you will be fine. If not, probably not a great fit for you. It looked so great for pets, we were sad we hadn't brought our dogs with us! The river is outside a fenced yard and orchard, so little ones would have a hard time wandering down to it - fairly safe for little kids if you want something close but not too close to the river.
Recommend "Pockets Grille" in town for those who want to grab something yummy for dinner - good sweet potato fries and burgers, plus a tilapia dish that looked WAY too nice to be eaten with a plastic fork. :-)
This was a great place to work and relax - all of us highly recommend it.
Hanna's River House was the perfect getaway location for our fairly large (11) golf group. All the guys were impressed with the secluded location, with all of them asking me at one time or another "how did you find this place?!" We were provided with virtually everything we needed to ensure a comfortable, homey atmosphere, and everyone had a great time. I heartily recommend the River House as a great location to get away from the hustle and bustle, but it's close enough to Bastrop to enjoy all that the town has to offer. Thanks for a great stay - looking forward to more of them!
