This house is set up perfectly to give you a fun place to spend your downtime between activities, to reconnect with friends and family, to relax and unwind, and make a plan for the evening or the next day. In fact the home is so inviting that you may not want to leave to take advantage of one of the multitude of activities the area has to offer! Throw some steaks on the grill, watch a few movies, read one of the many vintage or current books... the kids can head to the third floor for some play time, and before you know it your entire group will be refreshed. A wonderful location in the Borough of Jim Thorpe, within walking distance to the historic district, but far enough out to be quiet and with plenty of parking and freedom of movement. Minimum age to rent is 30...

Step out the door, make a left and within a few minutes you are walking on the old rail bed of the switchback railroad which is now one of the most scenic hikes in the area. You can walk downtown surrounded by trees, or walk to Mauch Chunk Lake, or take one of the 6 mountain bikes provided for your use.
Beautifully furnished with upscale amenities including upgraded beds, fully equipped kitchen, dining area and decorator details, this property is a great value for groups or families, spit the cost between several couples and you have a very inexpensive mountain getaway for your family or your wedding party.
Everything is provided for your stay except your personal toiletries, food, and clothing. We provide all the bedding, bath linens, and towels. Our fully equipped kitchen is stocked with plenty of spices, an array of cooking accessories and dishware to rival what you have at home. Coffee/tea/hot chocolate, sugar, condiments such as mustard and ketchup, bbq sauce, you name it and it is already stocked in the refrigerator. Why bring all those little things when you will only use a small fraction of a jar?
A GPS is provided for your use while visiting. Many of the local attractions are pre-programmed as favoriates, so you can get there and back 'hassle-free'.
3 bedrooms on the second floor, one King and two Queen beds with upgraded mattresses
A fourth bedroom on the third floor with a Twin Bed, Full size Futon, Queen air mattress, and Twin Air Mattress and complete with all the bedding you will need for them
Also on the third floor there is an XBOX 360 and several games, a 42' plasma TV with a ROKU player, family board games, etc,--a great place for the kids to get away and overflow sleeping.
All the attractions of the Pocono and Blue Mountains are an easy and scenic drive away. You can also leave your car parked and walk downtown to enjoy a wide variety of evening entertainment, restaurants, art galleries, museums and shopping. There is an island in the kitchen with seating for 4 and a dining table with seating for 6. The switchback trail starts right behind the house, where you can walk or bike up to Mauch Chunk Lake or down to the many miles of extensive bike trails that parallel the old train tracks along the Lehigh River. A washer & dryer with detergent and dryer sheets is provided on the second floor, so you can pack light or dry out your ski wear.
There is a 51' flat screen TV in the living room, wireless internet, a DVD player and a ROKU streaming video player with a Netflix account dedicated to the house. I am picky about amenities when I travel, so I have made very attempt to furnish this property to the highest of standards. It is my goal to make your stay in Jim Thorpe both fun and relaxing, so that you will come back again and again.
A building contractor for most of my adult life, I now find myself semi-retired and able to enjoy some travel and freedom. My travel is mostly international, and I know what it is like to rent a disappointing property and then face the next few days in misery. For this reason my vacation rentals, while all being very different in personality and amenities, all provide a great value and are exactly as advertised, extremely clean, fully equipped, and everything works as advertized. My properties are for those travelers who simply do not want to risk their vacation to save a few dollars.

I bought this house in need of a total restoration. My original plan was to resell the property but upon completion I liked it so much that I kept it as a rental property instead. For the first few years I had annual tenants, but during a winter in Puerto Rico, a new Cuban friend introduced me to the vacation rental business. Upon my return to the states, I converted the house into a vacation rental, and decided to make it one of the premier properties in town...
While the typical vacation rental is furnished with all the leftovers and hand-me-downs of someone else's life, this house provides a wonderful upscale experience, more like someone's personal home. I have included many interesting things, including vintage books, a complete electronic entertainment package on not just one but two floors, and upgraded furnishings and beds, because I knew that most of the other places in the area were very basic and bare bones.. so far it has proven to be a very popular destination.
Our family of four stayed at the Speakeasy over president's day weekend which was also Valentine day weekend. The house has clearly been loved by the owner and very clean. We walked in to a hand written note by Michael, you don't see that every day! There are clear notes and instructions everywhere. He has taken the time to think of everything you may need during your stay. Every time we thought, I wish we had ... we found it in the cupboards. the third floor obviously was a hit. In fact, we had a record cold day and we couldn't go skiing. We practically spent the whole day up on the third floor watching movies on Netflix or playing on the X-box. I particularly enjoyed reading about the history of the house. The one thing that we wish were different were the towels. We went to the nearby big lots and bought our own. Next time we would bring our own. Thank you Michael
Our group of 3 couples have rented many different homes in the mountains over 25 years. The Speakeasy was absolutely one of the best. It was clean and inviting. The kitchen was well equipped. Great place to play games and hang out with old friends.
This was my second trip to jim Thorpe and also my second stay at The Speakeasy. Along with the help from some close friends we surprised my wife with a birthday celebration! We couldn't have been any happier with the accommodations Mike provided! I am positive this will become a mainstay for us in the poconos!
Had a great holiday in the Speakeasy. Owner has done a good job kitting out the house and made the whole experience from first enquiry to us leaving a relaxing and enjoyable visit.

The Speakeasy was a fantastic place to stay. I shot a film in Lehighton and put all of my actors up in this house and they had a phenomenal time there. Jim Thorpe is beautiful and this house added to the small town feeling. We highly recommend anyone renting this place for a beautiful vacation in a nice small town.
We've rented many houses over the past 20 years and this, by far, was the BEST! It was inviting, warm, cozy and relaxing! Michael, the owner, was amazingly helpful and answered all questions promptly. He has thought of everything imaginable and more you could need or want from a rental. The house is less than a mile from the main intersection of town and provided us with a nice walk each day...sometimes twice! We will definitely be back! Thanks Michael!
