This is a two bedroom cottage on crystal clear, sandy bottom, all sports Paradise Lake. Two separate bedrooms and a futon will accommodate six comfortably. There is a local marina and bait shop on the lake for all of your boating and fishing needs. If you wish you can bring your own boat and launch it down the street at the DNR ramp and park right outside the cottage at your private dock. The fishing is excellent year round. There is also a lakeside restaurant, grocery store, gift and antique shops. We also have a 27 foot pontoon available for rent (weekly)at our cottage.
Our cottage is centrally located at the Tip of the Mitt. Five minutes from Mackinaw City, and Mackinaw Island Ferries, museums, historical Fort Michilmacinac, lighthouses, Mill Creek. Just over the Mackinaw Bridge will take you to Taquaneman falls, picture rocks, Sault Ste. Marie, and the Sault Locks. Casinos are in Petoskey, or in St. Ignace, just over the Mackinaw Bridge.
You probably wonder why we named our cottage 'Acorn'.Before we purchased our cottage, while we were with the real estate woman, I looked into one of the bedrooms and I was looking at the bed. I noticed something under the mattress. There I found in ten neat little rows a collection of acorns. I opened the dresser drawer, and there were more acorns. The local chipmunks had quite the feast stored for the winter. After we bought the cottage I took those acorns and keep them in an air tight jar on the mantel. So we named our cottage Acorn Cottage. The chipmunks still store the acorns, but they are now outside, not inside.
Jennifer Schafer purchased this cottage in 2005
Our cottage is in a little town of Carp Lake, Mi. We have enjoyed vacationing in this area for 30 years. We find the peaceful and tranquil area of Mackinaw very rejuvinating.
The beautiful area offers great natural peace. We found Acorn Cottage as we were looking for a retirement home in Northern Michigan. The area is rich in history with so much to do. Going to the dunes is like being in Florida. Hike in the woods. Or just sit and watch Paradise Lake.
Acorn Cottage is surrounded by natural beauty.A pair of Bald Eagles make their home in the nature
preserve at Stoney Point . In the evening set on the platform on the dock and watch the sunset.
Take a boat ride in the rowboat or the pontoon. The fishing is great on the lake, large pike, bass, and perch. If you want to go hiking,Wilderness State Park is just a few miles away.
There are plenty of hiking trails to walk or drive along the road and see the woodland and
lakeshore beauty. The sand dunes are also just a few miles away. Go to dinner at Legg's Inn and
on your way enjoy the sand dunes and beach shoreline of the Straits of Mackinaw. You can walk
for miles on open beach. If it's shopping you enjoy, go to Mackinaw City and Mackinaw Island
and spend the day. There is plenty to do around our cottage. So go relax, and enjoy.
We stayed at Acorn Cottage for 10 days. The minute you walk in you feel at home with the up north décor and the homey feel. The view of the lake is wonderful. We were cozy in front of the fireplace. Great distance for seeing the historical sights of Mackinaw. Close to everything you need.
We stayed for a week at this cottage and enjoyed the call of the loons at night. Although we had some rain, this didn't dampen our spirits; we traveled to several lighthouses, ate dinner at the Legs Inn, drove through the tunnel of trees, and took Shepler's west cruise to see lighthouses out in Lake Michigan. There's plenty to do!
My 5 year old son and I stayed at Acorn Cottage for a week and had a wonderful time! We swam, fished, took the row boat out, did some sight seeing, and most of all relaxed. The description of the cottage was very accurate and we were not disappointed. The cottage is very close to Mackinaw City which was convenient for sightseeing. There is also a small park across the street where my son was able to play.
I highly recommend this place and would definitely stay there again!
We loved the Acorn Cottage! It has everything you need to make you feel at home. Cute and cozy and a beautiful view of the lake. We rented the pontoon boat and had a wonderful time exploring the lake...even caught a few fish! We loved the park across the street and played tennis and basketball. We look forward to going back and spending another week at your wonderful Paradise on the lake.
This is a wonderful cottage on Paradise Lake. The property description online is very accurate. Our kids absolutely loved everything about it. We relaxed by the fireplace, grilled our meals, swam, boated on the pontoon, caught tons of fish, and loved every minute. We are already trying to decide when we can go back. If you are considering staying here, do not hesitate. You will not be disappointed.
Very cute and comfortable, neat and clean. Pretty view of lake with a nice deck. Didn't use the dock and boat because we were sight seeing. Mackinac City is very close by. Would definately go again.
Just minutes to Ferries to Mackinaw Island and the Upper Penninsula.
