Begur Villa Rental Photos and Description

4 bedrooms incl. one private suite, 3 full baths and one half bath, sleeps 8-10

This stunning villa is located within walking distance of the village of Begur in the Costa Brava. It has been carefully designed in a Mexican architectural style with plenty of colors, large spacious rooms and lots of light. The villa has sea views towards the cove of Sa Riera. It has a large private garden and private swimming pool. It is ideal for a large family or two families taking a holiday together as there is plenty of room, an ideal location for visiting guests

This lovely Mexican-style house offers two stories with 300 square meters (3000sq.ft.) of living space on a 1500 square meter property just five minutes' walk below the medieval village of Begur. The property includes a lush private garden around a swimming pool at the foot of an ivy-covered cliff, all hemmed in by a tiled terrace skirting the entire house.

Broad pergolas wrapped in twisting vines of wisteria shade tables on either side of the house, and a little orchard sits on the gentle slope to one side. The master bedroom lets out onto an expansive thirty square meter private second floor terrace with views over the Mediterranean and its iconic Medes Islands.

A second bedroom is wrapped in its own terrace with a bridge to the top of the adjoining cliff. A spacious kitchen and a long living/dining area flank the rustic tiled entrance hall with its grandfather clock and open stair. Across the arched breezeway, the independent 'casita' has its own living room and en suite bath. The main hall is crowned with a pair of hand carved antique wooden doors painfully brought from Morocco. Two foot (30cm) thick walls on all sides preserve the quirky Mexican colonial tradition in which it was built, with gaily painted interior walls, rough baked tile floors and antique and rustic wood furnishings.

Nonetheless, the twenty-first century is alive and well, with high speed wi-fi in every room, and wide screen flat panel TVs, DVDs, and multi-language satellite television. The open-plan kitchen is state of the art, with a five-range gas stove, built-in charcoal grill, dual electric convection ovens, a dish washer, and washer and dryer in the adjoining pantry. A professional gas grill lets your grill master take the cooking outside, too. This house is furnished for living, and we live there most of the year, so you'll find nothing wanting. And since it was only completed a few years ago, all the amenities are modern and new.

The house sits on the steep hillside leading from the village center to Begur's most popular beach, Sa Riera. The Cap de Begur is a fan-shaped outcropping of rocky cliffs interspersed with deep cove beaches. The Cap is crowned by the picturesque Castell ('castle') around which the little town was built. From the ramparts of the Castell, one can look out over the nearby towns of Palafrugell, Palamos, Pals, and in the distance Dali's home town of Cadaques and even the French Pyrenees.

Besides the obvious tanning, bathing, and leisure opportunities offered by the town and its beaches, the area offers many, many opportunities for more organized activities for kids and grown-ups. Horseback riding, sky diving, spearfishing, sailing, go-carts, and of course the obligatory golf courses are just a few of the nearby attractions. Culture buffs will eat up the medieval towns, roman ruins, churches and old 'masias' (manor houses). Foodies will drool over everything from tapas to prime rib, while leisure professionals can just lay by the pool, drinking in the sun, the view and the Mediterranean breeze over a good summer read.

Please take a look at our other property next door. Across the bridge and up a little path, we can accommodate up to 18 people between the two:

Beautiful villa, great location!

  • 5 of 5
We had a family holiday with total of 7 people. The villa was very well equipped, spacious and beautifully decorated! The garden/pool was great for our kids to run around and for adults to relax. Location was great, very closed to the town and the beach. Our host Jose was very helpful and responded our requests immediately during our stay. We did not get the chance to meet our hostess Catalina as she was away but before we arrived she was great in responding our emails right away. We would definitely go back and stay in this villa again!

Fabulous Mexican style house, excellent location

  • 5 of 5
We rented the house with 2 families, total of 10 people. It was great for our 4 smaller children having a separate room next to the house while our 2 teenagers had shared their room upstairs. The villa is absolutely wonderful in a Mexican style, inspired by the origins of the owner Catalina. The location is great, good for walks, only 5 to 10 minutes to the center of Begur and 20 minutes to the beach. From the beach you can easily walk up to other nearby beaches. Begur is a small authentic village with lots of good restaurants and boutiques. The owners are very helpful and friendly. I strongly recommend the villa for relaxing holidays with children in a beautiful area.

Luxury in perfect family villa

  • 5 of 5
This was a dream come true for us having never rented a villa with a private pool before and the reality lived up to our expectations and more. It had everything we needed and was really well cared for and amenities comprehensive. We felt as if we were in Mexico and in a real family home which has many artistic and stylish aspects, many family photos added a personal intimate feel to the place. The art theme inspired us to go and see the Dali museum which is well worth the visit and is 45 minutes drive, book in advance. The warmth and friendliness of our hosts Catalina and Jose made the difference and we felt cared for and they could not have been more helpful, booking restaurants for us and offering advice. I would recommend this to anyone who appreciates quality and privacy and likes food both inside and outside as this is a place to cook and eat in. A big family or two families are needed to fill the space offered and the annex allows some separateness for those who want it. We enjoyed being 5 minutes walk from town and going out to get our fresh bread every day and walking into the lovely town of Begur at night without having to worry about driving home. The views from the villa and the castle are amazing and our favourite beach was Platja Fonda for the dramatic setting and blue sea which is a short drive.

We enjoyed the Italian restaurant Recer De La Mer at the beach Sa Riera and Pizzeta in Begur. For fish the Casa Juanita is a must with authenticity and family business. For that special evening go down to Sa Rascassa at Aiguafrieda fine dining. Lunch in Begur at Can Torrades was also fine.

We did not want to leave and the views will stay with is long into winter.

Wonderful character villa

  • 5 of 5
Fantastic weeks holiday... We are a party of 9 plus a baby, the house accommodated us all both inside and out in the garden & pool. We loved the character and warmth of the property which is ideally located being only 5 minutes walk into the historic centre of Begur, and with easy access to Sa Riera and Sa Tuna beaches. Catalina & Jose Luis were very welcoming hosts and we spent a lovely evening with them.

Overall a fantastic week was had by the whole family, everyone really enjoyed the holiday.

Casa Olinda

  • 5 of 5
Casa Olinda is fabulous ! A beautiful setting beneath the village of Begur and the beach at Sa Riera. The gardens are wonderful and the view from the master bedroom balcony must be among the best on the Costa Brava.
The villa is exceptionally well equipped and is a delight for those for whom cooking is part of a good holiday. The gas BBQ was well used and we enjoyed some lovely local produce.
Jose Luis was very welcoming and gave a great briefing on the villa's extensive facilities. He also provided some beautifully hand drawn maps showing the secret paths to the village and the beach. Both he and Catalina could not have been more helpful.
Although loathe to leave the Villa there are so many beautiful places nearby Pals, Pallafrugel, Sa Tuna, Aiguablava. There are plenty more for a return visit.
Our party had kids from age 8 to 52 and everyone had a great time. Thank you Catalina and Jose Luis.

A Magical Place

  • 5 of 5
Casa Olinda is one of the most beautifl homes in all of Begur. It is beautiflly situated on a hill with a great view of the Mediterranean sea and lush greenery and follage complimenting the Mexican exterior. Inside it is vast with room for 10 or more. Each room is invitingly decorated with warm colors and colorful furnishings. The kitchen has everything you would need to make your stay comfortable. Many evenings we ate in under the covered veranda and just watched the sky change colors. Our host, Catalina, is so charming and makes sure every thing you need or might need is there. The basket of food and cava that greeted us was so thoughtful and absolutly delicious. Our granddaughters throughly enjoyed swimming in the pool and we all appreciated Catalina taking time out to show us how to make one of the peasant dishes of the area. Her reccomendations as to places to visit and restauants to try were excellent and gave us a trure flavor of the area. She went out of her way to meet our needs and even had a friend make a special paella for us . Such kindness was so appreciated. Our family felt so welcome and will return again.

Begur is a picturesque Catalonian town dating back to the Middle Ages. Perched on a steep escarpment overlooking the Medes Islands, it's packed with shops, restaurants and nightlife. Since the fifties, it has served as an exclusive escape for the region's celebrities and discerning vacationers. Today the town and its surroundings offer a panoply of attractions and amenities. Morning sunbathers can bake on one of seven isolated cove beaches before retiring for a leisurely lunch at home or in town. After the traditional Spanish siesta, the village streets liven up as locals and tourists alike take the aperitivo in one of the outdoor cafes on the village square. If your lucky, you can join the village elders dancing the Sardana in great twirling circles to the cacophony of a traditional orchestra after dinner. When you're ready to head in, home is just a five minute walk down the winding beach road.

Other Activities: Besides the string of beaches that surround our little hamlet, Begur's environs offer a variety of activities and amenities. Nearby you can explore the stunning medieval town of Pals, with its splendid Gothic buildings and winding cobbled streets. Just 40km (25 miles) away, you'll visit Dali's birthplace of Figueres, where you can find his museum, stopping off on the way home at the castle the eccentric artist built for his beloved Gala. A fifteen minute drive will take you to La Bisbal D'Emporda, best known for its ceramics and the nearby Roman ruins at Ullastret. The provincial capital of Girona offers its own old town with Roman and Moorish roots, as well as modern amenities for shopping, dining, and a night on the town. For those eager to try their luck, the famous Perelada Casino will not disappoint, while their more comfort-oriented companions can enjoy its luxury spa. Horseback riding, go carts, and skydiving are just a few more of the neighborhood's offerings.

Golf: The Costa Brava was recently voted 'the best emerging golf destination world wide.' The moderate climate of this area makes it an ideal place for enjoying golf and it offers a number clubs: Perelada, Torremirona, Mas Pages, Gualta, Mas Now (d'Aro) & L'angel de Lloret. The nearest, Serres de Pals is only ten minutes away. The 18 hole, par 72 course runs among pine woods, olive trees, rice fields and water features. The course flows smoothly over the original curves of the land and has three areas; Links - a reminder of British charm, Woods - holes among trees, and Lakes.
