The cave house has an elevated and stunning position high in the village of Uchisar (1300m) within the region of Cappadocia, central Turkey. The house has spectacularly romantic views both day and night across the Cappadocia valley and its historic troglodyte terrain. Uchisar overlooks the larger village of Goreme, sited on the 'Silk Road' trail, adding to the tourist facilities required. Living at a height of 1300m you will appreciate the coolness of the evenings during the summer months. From the rooms or the terrace you can watch the changing light every hour of the day until a magnificent sunset is painted across the sky, and then at night the site is illuminated creating a fairytale atmosphere. The area has UNESCO listed world patrimony for its natural and cultural value which attracts artists, historians, geologists, writers, photographers and environmentalists. The flora and fauna draws botanists and the terrain is a natural delight for those that love to walk.

Uchisar village square has authentic cafes/restaurants, hotels, shops & Monday market. Uchisar Castle hosts carpet/pottery shops & a bazaar. Goreme Village has many restaurants & bars, hotels, hire shops, internet cafes and night-life. Sites of interest include Uchisar Castle with views of dormant volcano Erges, Goreme open-air museum, underground cities with 'fairy chimneys', ancient cave dwellings and churches, old caravanserais and various valleys of different flora and fauna. There is hiking, horse-riding, biking, camping-out, mountaineering / abseiling, swimming, quad biking and excursions available and the region is renowned for hot air balloon flights. Kaya Hotel, in the village, has a swimming pool with mountain views, for use at a local fee, and Kapadokya Lodge Hotel (1km from village) offers swimming, spa, tennis, and a children’s play area, all for a small fee to non-residents.

There are 2 additional cave rooms off the main downstairs courtyard which can accommodate an additional 4 persons for sleeping but equipment (sleeping bags, matress) would be required (or need to be requested).

Notes: Living/dining area has a large dining table with benches and comfortable lounge seating. Additional dining area out on the terrace plus seating below in the courtyard. Kitchen has gas hob, fridge, cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery and glasses and cleaning equipment although the property is cleaned thoroughly prior to arrival. All bed linen and towels are included. Mid-stay cleaning and change of linen is available when required. Children are very welcome but under 8 yrs may require outside supervision.

Outside Living Details: The outside terrace with magnificent views has outdoor furniture together with stone-built BBQ. A ground-level walled courtyard offers additional open-air living. Under the main house there are various cave rooms off the courtyard which are at differing stages of restoration - great for exploring - not quite 21st century living accommodation yet.

Airport Transfer Details: Fly from London Stanstead via Istanbul to Kayseri with Pegasus Airlines (new & cheap), Luton to Istanbul with EasyJet or, from Manchester or London Heathrow via Istanbul to Kayseri with a scheduled airline; Turkish Airlines/British Airways. Also BMI fly Heathrow to Ankara. Kayseri Airport is approx 55km (45 min drive) from the cave house. There is a regular mini-bus service from the airport to Goreme (Uchisar on prior request) or a private collection can be arranged on request (extra charge) when booking. Ankara Airport is 3hrs by car or coach. Car hire available from the airport.

A truly pleasant cavehouse, than makes us to feel hosts and not tourists, in a fantastic and lively village, just a few steps from historical sites. The owners are persons extremely kindly and correct and accurate to provide all necessary information.

This house was our favourite accommodation in a two week road trip around central Turkey. The scenery is spectacular from the bedrooms and terrace of this house and Uchisar itself has a number of great value eateries and well stocked village shops. It was good to be outside Goreme, which was markedly busier, but we were very close to all the main sites in the area. Only regret was not staying long enough to explore the area thoroughly on foot as it looks great for hiking. Get up early to watch the balloons decend into the air at dawn on the other side of the Kale near the house - it's a wonderful sight.
