The Boardman River is a scenic river with abundant Trout - a Fisherman's paradise. The serenity of this place is truly mind-settling. It is truly a ''getaway'' but yet very close to Traverse City with all of its amenities.
Our family truly enjoyed our stay at the River Bend Cottage. The property is beautiful, and our children (ages 6-9) loved exploring the grounds and following the stream. The river provides such a pretty view, and the little bridge that you cross over to enter the property is absolutely charming, especially with the nighttime lights on.
Inside the house, the beds/pillows were probably the most comfortable I've ever slept in, in a rental home. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need, and then some. We were pleased to find plenty of dishes, a ton of silverware, and every size pot and pan we could need. There was even a crockpot and cookie sheets, both of which we used. We were pleased to find a bottle of wine chilling in the refrigerator upon our arrival, and in the morning, there was package of coffee to make a full pot and an abundance of coffee filters. The owners have thought of everything.
It was cold outside, but we had no trouble staying warm inside. The fireplace kept the main floor very cozy, and even a bit too warm at times. Even without the fireplace, the temperature of the main floor was much warmer than the lower level (and a little bit too warm at times, even without the fireplace going). And, we loved having the hot tub. On one occasion, it stopped working, and even though Evan was not in close proximity, he sent over the other Winter manager to fix the issue right away. We were told the hot tub was prone to this issue, but it really only affected us for a short time, since the manager was so quick to come over and address it.
Evan was very helpful and accommodating. When we needed the king bed separated into two twins, he was over in a very timely manner to detach and put on new sheets. He also was great about helping us try to navigate our way around town.
Even before we left, we decided that we would book our return for next year :-)
There don't seem to be the words to adequately begin to express how amazing this home and its setting are!!! We spent a couple of days and 3 nights at the cottage, definitely not enough time. We were warmly greeted by Evan, who is the son of this great father-son endeavor. He was a wealth of information about Traverse City and very helpful regarding things that we should see while in the area. He was also most-willing to help us out with kayaking, since there were kayaks on the property (unfortunately, we ran out of time to go kayaking). Evan had also prepared a beautiful basket for our honeymoon that included champagne and all sorts of great goodies. This was in addition to the GREAT bottle of complementary chardonnay that was chilled and waiting for us!!
The house was so comfy and beautifully appointed. Regardless of the room we were in, there was an amazing view to be taken in! The hot tub came in really handy after we spent a couple of our days doing some great hikes. Speaking of hikes, you don't even need to leave the property to take in an amazing hike! Our trip was blessed with great weather and amazing fall colors, which made for some incredible pictures.
Wayne & Evan, we could never adequately thank you for making our honeymoon so incredibly special!!! We are so blessed to have found your cottage; it was the icing to a blessed marriage!!!
We had a chance to take a multi-generational vacation (grandparents, parents, crazy grandboys) and chose Traverse City as a destination. Finding this "cabin" just made the entire week perfect. The setting is incredible with different views from every direction on the property. The river is right there begging visitors to either relax and watch it pass by or use the kayaks and explore each turn. There is a fabulous creek running alongside the house with a soothing waterfall, the gazebo, woods, and amazing firepit waiting for a family to enjoy a beverage or two while making s'mores.
The owner, Wayne, was wonderful to deal with. Evan made sure we were welcomed, comfortable and was just so informative about everything we could do in the area to make the most of our time in the Traverse City. He could not have been more responsive or accommodating.
The house offered room for all of us to be together or spread out. The decks, screen room, two living rooms & a huge hot tub room along with 4 bedrooms and 3 baths with a completely stocked kitchen made this cabin feel like a dream come true. Did I mention the home also has 2 washers and 2 dryers!?!
We had the best time hitting all the tourist type attractions in the area (lighthouse, stacking rocks, beaches, picnics, wineries, insane asylum shopping, Lucky Jack's Lazer tag and arcade, Sleeping Bear Dunes, kayaking the Boardman, tubing the Platte, shopping downtown, eating at the Mackinaw Brewing Company, Bubba's and the The Grand Traverse Pie Co., Tall Ship Sail, hiking in the woods, and more). All of this was made even better because we could come back home to this fabulous house.
Make a memory here!
We had a fantastic stay at the River Bend cottage. The home was gorgeous and very well-maintained, and the owners were so friendly and helpful. We enjoyed renting the kayaks and explored the Boardman River nearly every day. We have rented many homes over the years, but this was by far the nicest, both in setting and in quality of the home. Father and son owners were great communicators. Evan went over and above offering to help. Would love to return! Highly recommend!
Fantastic place!! We stayed here for a family vacation for a week. The house and property are wonderful. The location perfect!! The owner/management were terrific and quick to respond with our thousands of questions about the area and property during our stay.
The house was lovely, and exactly as described. Very comfortable and spacious.
Wooded area and river great for exploring for kids and adults alike. Fire pit area was perfect for the evening bonfires and marshmallow roasting. We had 7 kids (ages 3-12) who had a wonderful time playing outside on the property all week. They couldn't wait to get out and explore everyday.
We hope to stay at the property again. I would highly recommend it!!
My family spent 5 days at the River Bend Cottage and it was everything we expected and more. The house was prepared for our arrival and was clean. We were given plenty of peace and quiet. It is a good fishing spot and on a clear night you can see the big dipper. It is not far from TC and we took the kids into town for a bit. The decor of the home is awesome and they made sure you were taken care of. Definitely want to go back :)
