My wife and kids and I moved to Nova Scotia from British Columbia, and chose Shirley's home for a month while we searched for permanent housing in the Halifax area. Her home was always a very refreshing, peaceful and relaxing place to come back to everyday after our housing search. Our lovely host respected our privacy while also showing herself to be interested in us and our kids, and was very welcoming towards our family overall. She was very helpful with providing information regarding various details of the region, and even went out of her way to make some special and unique accommodations for us while we were staying in the suite. We were sorry to leave Shirley's place, and would happily return for another visit. We found Shirley herself to be very gracious and hospitable, and also quite thoughtful about humanity as a whole.
My wife and I came to Halifax with our son to settle him in to university. Our week-long stay allowed us enough time to find an apartment and furnishings with a couple of days for sightseeing. Country Garden Retreat was a perfect spot for us to stay. Not only was it affordable, but it was also so clean, tidy and well maintained. After a busy day of searching and shopping it was the perfect spot to return - quiet, natural and the beds so comfortable. One can see from the photos how spacious the apartment is. It is a great location for taking day trips around southern Nova Scotia: Halifax, Port Royal/Annapolis Royal, Peggy's Cove/Lunenburg. The host was very accommodating, welcoming and available when needed but never obtrusive. I recommend this property to anyone visiting Nova Scotia - it's so much more interesting and comfortable than staying in a motel! I expect we will stay here again in the future.
We are from New Orleans and came to this area curious about Nova Scotia and our Acadian heritage. This was the perfect spot to explore from and then rest from our day. The apartment was exceptionally clean and comfortable. It was a special retreat. Thanks to Shirley for her gracious hospitality!!
My husband and I spent a week in Mount Uniake, staying at Country Gardens Retreat. The apartment was lovely - clean, quiet, well-equipped and our hostess was so welcoming!
We were able to relax, come and go as we pleased, and feel right at home.
We highly recommend this "home away from home"!
My husband and I stayed in the 2BR apt, visiting my family in Bedford. The distance was only 15 minutes away and was convenient. I am a sensitive person, so I needed a lot of quiet space. This place was perfect. I loved being surrounded by nature. One day we even saw a beaver scurry across the lawn!
We stayed for 3 months. The owner was cheerful and helpful.
This was my second time staying here, and it felt like I was coming home again. It was so peaceful and quiet. I slept wonderfully, it was so relaxing. The unit was clean, and was stocked with everything I needed. The full sized fridge and self-clean oven worked beautifully.
I loved being surrounded by nature - trees, deer, owls etc. The lovely flowers added a special touch and color. I especially liked the ten foot ornamental grass blowing in the gentle wind. Everything smelled so fresh. This is a great getaway from the citylife.
The owner was warm, down to earth, and interesting to talk to, yet unobtrusive. She was available at anytime, and accommodated me readily, I didn't get in until late and left at 2pm. I felt safe and well cared for.
I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a well priced rental that is clean, practical and private. It is a gem hidden away, close to the airport and downtown Halifax. Groceries were nearby, including wine and beer, and a host of choices of ice cream cones at the Farmer's Market.
I enjoyed my stay immensely!
