Grafton House Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 4)

Grafton is a very special place and West Corner is a very special historic home. We welcome you to enjoy our vacation home and the Grafton community. You will be hard pressed to find a more authentic Vermont village experience; where time appears to remain standstill, history is alive around every corner and where man's creation and nature's beauty are in perfect harmony. The village is home to some of the most beautiful examples of early new england architecture, and the entire village is in the National Register of Historic Places. Named one of the 10 most beautiful places in America by USA Today and one of 1000 Places To See Before You Die by leading Travel Guides.

Built circa 1840, our home, called the West Corner, is nestled in the west end of the village center, providing unusual privacy for an in village home. It is very private, yet only a minute's walk to the main street, village park, Grafton Tavern, the general store and churches.

The home is in superb condition, maintaining much of its original character yet providing all the comforts and conveniences you would expect from today's dwellings - thanks to the meticulous update undertaken last winter.

A steeple high attached barn, which once served as the grain room and firewood storage, welcomes you into the home, and also serves as our mudroom and Gallery. The high ceiling and rustic barnwood interiors are classic farmhouse style.

Next to the grain room is our richly appointed library cum bar, with floor to ceiling wood panels, rumford fireplace, comfortable leather seating and, just a great setting to relax in, day or night.

Oversized wall to wall window lets plenty of sunlight to stream in, making it a great place to read.

The huge living cum dining room offers another fireplace and plenty of space of relaxation, dining or for enjoying a good fire. Attached to the living room is the sunroom, with its own breakfast nook table for four and a seating area. This space is excellent for enjoying summers and is fully wiremeshed for protection from bugs.

The home offers two bedrooms and two full baths, plus another half bath. The large master bedroom offers a beautiful sitting area by the window to enjoy a morning coffee or to simply relax on the rocking chair and watch the village life go by from a distance. The home provides a sophisticated and country elegant living atmosphere with plenty of formal and casual living spaces. While the home is designed for four people, an extra mattresss, which can be used in the master bedroom or in the den, allows for occasional additional guests.

The fully renovated country kitchen comes complete with brand new appliances, all cookware, most basic ingredients and a refrigerator stocked with essentials in order to make your arrival comfortable. You will find a wide sele tion of teas, gourmet coffee, maple syrup, pancake mix, spices, condiments, etc etc. Silver flatware, antique knives, antique china and primitive cast iron dishes are carefully hand selected, completing an authentic country kitchen feel. It is fully equipped and we warn you that it will tempt you to go gourmet.

Throughout the home you will find plenty of books, great vintage stereo systems painstakingly put together by us over the years, and hundreds of CDs, records and cassettes from our personal collection. You will be able to connect your ipod to this system as well.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your house is a dream. We were in heaven here.We had a lovely stay in your home. It was clean, stylish and comfortable. You were easy to reach and responsive. It was very welcoming to have fresh eggs, milk, butter and cheese provided upon our arrival in addition to the basic condiments one needs in order to cook. That was very helpful. Also, I defy anyone to find a more charming New England town anywhere. I would definitely like to rent your home again.

Beautiful house in peaceful Grafton

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I spent Labor Day weekend in this beautifully restored farmhouse in Grafton. It was my first trip to Vermont, and I couldn't think of a better base for a nice, relaxing weekend.
The owners have paid attention to every detail in renovating and decorating their home; you truly feel like this is a well loved nest, very cozy and stylish and equipped with everything you need for your comfort, whether for cooking or setting a nice table in the sun room or a relaxing evening in the living room with some music playing.

Since we visited at the end of summer, our favorite spot was the sun room - so bright and comfy throughout the day. Loved the sound of the birds. The kitchen is also large and well equipped with all necessary pots and pans, utensils, server ware and condiments - much more so than other houses we have rented in the past. Same goes for the bathrooms.

Another beautiful touch is the numerous gorgeous photos taken by the owner - a very talented - and well traveled!- photographer.

And the house is located a couple minutes from the Grafton Inn - so it was very easy to eat out when we didn't feel like cooking.

The owner was very responsive from the moment we reserved the house; gave us several recommendations for things to do and places to eat. She was also very quick to return a couple items we had left behind at the house.

Hope to return one day, maybe in the winter to see Vermont in a completely different light.

Stylish and well equipped house!

  • 4 of 5
Beautifully decorated place in one of the prettiest Vermont villages. We truly enjoyed our stay and we're happy to report that everything worked and was up to standard.
The house is well equipped and had plenty of heat and water, despite the cold weather we had. The driveway was plowed and access to house was good. Also, the wifi, tv and music system all worked and the living room fireplace was nice. Didn't try the one in the tv room...
All and all a pleasant stay, would do it again!

Beautiful home in idyllic location

  • 5 of 5
We had a truly lovely 4-day girls weekend at this home. We only wish we could have stayed longer... We arrived during a heavy snow storm and the power was out, but the owner was very responsive to our calls & power was restored within a few hours. The fireplaces kept the house toasty despite the outage.

The 1840 house's original wood flooring, fireplaces, barnwood dining table and entry through the mud room/barn all added to its charm. The house also had modern design elements & amenities in the kitchen, which allowed us to prepare some great meals. There was a plentiful firewood supply in the mud room so we spent most of our time either relaxing by the fire in the main room or exploring Grafton & surroundings.

This area of VT has so much to offer. You can spend a couple days just exploring the shops, antique stores, restaurants/barn taverns & cheese shops in the towns of Chester, Bellows Falls and Grafton. Or skiing & sledding down nearby hills. Or just driving around country roads with snow-covered trees, mountains. Such beautiful scenery.

We would highly recommend a stay at West Corner. Would love to return in the summer to see it then!

Winter Visit to West Corner

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed visiting this antique home nestled in a quiet corner of Grafton! We arrived just after Christmas and spent only 2 nights but enjoyed our stay in this very unique home. Sonali was very responsive to our inquiry and had arranged for the house to be ready for our arrival including farm fresh eggs and milk. Being in Grafton is a lovely experience and an educational one for teenage girls. This home is truly a lovely restored antique built in 1840 I believe. You definitely feel like you are in VT in a rustic environment that has been given lots of attention. We enjoyed one night at the Grafton Inn barn for casual dining but preferred being back at the house for dinner and a warm fire. We spent all of our time in front of the fire, reading, and also just listening to the great assortment of music. Our girls, ages 17 & 13 had never seen a turntable before so we gave them a lesson in how to use an album vs a CD. We enjoyed our dinner while listening to a variety of music ranging from James Taylor, to the Beatles, and then Cole Porter & Ella Fitzgerald. There is something for every age in their music collection. There was plenty of firewood available which is always a plus. This home was just big enough for the four of us. The master bedroom is spacious and the second bedroom is very small but perfect for our girls stay. Staying in this home is a very different experience than staying in a typical ski condo or hotel and a great way to spend a few relaxing days. We did not even turn on the TV which was a nice change as well. We did ski one day at Okemo which was very easy to get to as it was only 30 minutes up the road. There is also a small market where you can pick up the basics. Just to confirm, as has been discussed in other reviews, the home was spotless, the owners were available and helpful and the description of the property is accurate. This is a nice spot for a quick, quiet getaway to VT and we would recommend it.

Beautiful home and village with tons of character

  • 5 of 5
This is a house with New England, historic character PLUS modern comfort set in a perfect small Vermont village.

We spent 3 nights here over the 4th of July weekend. The house is as beautiful and well appointed as described here. Everything worked properly, was well maintained, and was comfortable. We loved the special touch of the extensive CD collection. Great taste all around!

Good location for day trips to Quechee, Woodstock, and Manchester.

One suggestion: The beautiful kitchen and dining room really tempts you to cook. It would've been great to have more serving platters and bowls to fully round the kitchen out for gourmet use (plenty of dinnerware and cooking ware).

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words Linda and we are glad you enjoyed the house. There are 2 full sets of serving dishes( one white in the cabinet above the ovens with their own matching trivets and the blue hearth stone set is in the Hutch next to the dining table) I will remember to add that into the kitchen information package and I'm sorry if you were inconvenienced because of that. We hope you come and stay with us again. Thank you once again for leaving the house in immaculate condition, it is much appreciated.
