Party of 5

I am a Floridian. I have been to the keys several times. I know what it is like, meaning I understand the "relaxed" way of life. However this was a joke...Kawama Yacht Club's management obviously lives this "relaxed" way of life as well as the owners of the unit and the cleaning lady. When we arrived at the guard house. We could not get in. The owner never sent over our paperwork that showed we had reserved a unit and also the make and model of our vehicle. Thank goodness I had a printed copy of our contract and paperwork. The girl at the gate was kind enough to take all the actions to make sure we were not held up long. We could not get a hold of the owner (it was a Sunday), by luck, the cleaning lady drove by so we called her, she then called the owner which in turn called the gate. 20 minutes later and holding up other vehicles trying to get in, we made it. The grounds were getting some maintenance and the unit was briefly clean. There were animal hairs everywhere. I don't think the unit was ever swept, just wiped down. The fans haven't been dusted in a long time. The 2nd level door would not close entirely leading to the balcony and the ants (all kinds) were crazy. I believe the cleaning lady only changes the towels, sheets and washes the dishes. Which in my case I did most of before I left so the next people would have a cleaner place to stay. The pools were heated, yes heated, like swimming in warm pee. Dont let them fool you, you CAN NOT swim in the tower pool unless staying in the tower. The pools for this condo are very old, moldy, too warm and just not refreshing at all. One of them was closed. The lagoon is really dirty, lots of algae pockets everywhere. The kids were grossed out to swim in it. You can't enjoy it from all the yuck. The beach is even worse. Garbage, garbage, garbage. The point/jetties is full of garbage as well. What I don't understand is that every single person I asked about the why they didnt have a trash bin at the point where everyone fishes all claimed they didnt work there, yet their golfcarts where full of maintenance things. The first morning we were woke up at 8 am by the lawn guys, the 2nd morning the plumber was 2 ft outside our door (REALLY 2ft ) tampering/groundpounding the ground flat...all before 8am. If you dont know what tampering is,lets just say, a helicopter landing on your roof. The internet sucks and you can barely get any reception. However, we made the best of it and enjoyed our time in the "relaxed" keys

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. Based on the multitude of complaints I feel that the rental home may not have been suited for you. I understand that it is not for everyone and am sorry you discovered this after your stay, rather than before as it seems you were expecting more of a luxury hotel. The Florida Keys is known for its “laid back” atmosphere however, that does not mean that the staff of Kawama are not professional and courteous. Rest assured the car information is provided to the guard gate for all of my guests as it was for yours however, human error does exist so it is possible that it was misplaced. I can assure you that I do not have an issue with renters contacting me any day of the week or time and that does include Sundays however, as the renter you do have to make the call. You can see from my other reviews that I resolve all matters in a timely manner. In your case the first and only point of contact during your entire stay was with the cleaning lady Diane who in turn called me in which I contacted the guard immediately resolving the issue. I was surprised by your comments, especially since you advised Diane the cleaning lady that everything was Fantastic. As for the unit, it is cleaned by Diane who does do a thorough cleaning such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, washes all linens, etc. Being however, that the cleaning may not be to everyone’s standards, Diane is courteous enough to leave a card in the unit with all of her contact information in the case that you are not satisfied or need anything further. Diane would have been more than happy to have resolved the matter for you should you have called her when you first noticed. The swimming pool available for my unit is located directly behind it. Please let it be known the Tower pool is not the designated pool. It is pretty disturbing that you would insinuate that I "fool" my guests as at no point did I even speak of the Tower pool as it has no relevance to the unit you rented, not sure why you even attempted to go there. The Florida Keys is a boater, diver, and fisherman’s dream. It is a place of peace, relaxation and harmony and appreciated by most. Many of the complaints are regarding the natural state of the Keys in which I cannot control. Again, I am sorry that you encountered so many disappointments as this was a vacation and should have been enjoyed. I do understand that not everyone can be pleased so I can only wish you the best towards your future endeavors.
