Featherstone's House of the Rising Sun is a completely new two story guest cottage. Professionally decorated and with every possible amenity, it is located on a totally private 1 1/2 acre beach. Away from all noise and traffic and with no electrical or phone lines in sight, you are at one with the sea and the sky.
The downstairs living area includes a full kitchen, dining area and living room with satellite TV, DVD and VCR as well as a sound system. All this decorated in a blend of tropical and Asian motifs. In front is a lanai with seating for afternoon relaxation. Out back, under the almond trees and in your private garden, is your very own hot tub.
Upstairs is a large bedroom with king bed beautifully decorated in the soft, relaxing colors of the sea. There is a large and comfortable window seat for relaxing and reading. Art work by renowned artist, Dawn Rentz, adorns the walls. The bathroom is adjoining.
There is a small refrigerator inside the large closet for the convenience of your cool drinks or snacks while upstairs. Outside this bedroom is a balcony for long range views of the Caribbean Sea that take your vision all the way to Little Cayman to the West and to the bluff at the East end of the island. It is large enough for resting, reading or eating.
Situated on the most beautiful private beach on the island, this cottage is luxury at its best!
By profession I have had, for over 30 years, an executive search firm that is specialized in Advanced Telecommunications. In addition, I have an Interior Design firm that serves the needs of the island community. All my children are grown. My other residence is in Asheville, NC.
Minnie Branch purchased this cottage in 2009
Cayman Brac is a British owned island and so a friendly and stable government. You can own property here without fear of having it taken away under an unstable government. It is an English speaking culture. There is absolutely no crime on Cayman Brac. The island is still in the top 3% of clean air and water left on the planet. The people are friendly and welcome guests to their island with a generous spirit. In addition to all this, it is a uniquely beautiful island with a bluff that rises to a height of 143' above the sea at the East End. Watching the moon rise from this pinnacle is worth the entire trip to the island. This, of course, does not preclude the fact that you can see the bottom of the sea at 30' or the sunsets that leave a green flash over the water due to their intensity or that the warm, balmy breezes will not let you have a moment of stress left in your body.
A vast white sandy beach that invites you to come in and play. A gazebo next to the sea where you can dine under the stars or just swing in a hammock to your heart's content. Your own private cottage where you can sit in your Zen garden in the hot tub under the almond trees or on your balcony overlooking the landscape of the island. Everywhere you look on the property it is gorgeous - the beach, the cottage, the owner's home and all the palm trees, foliage and flowers that abound plentifully throughout the property. There is easy access into the sea for swimming, snorkeling, diving or taking out the 2 person kayak. Planned as a place to rival Paradise on earth, this is the ultimate vacation getaway.
My husband and I honeymooned to the Brac in December, and we were so impressed with Featherstone! Minnie has truly created a personal paradise on the island.
The cottage itself is situated on a property that also include's Minnie's home and a downstairs guest apartment that is also a rental property. My husband and I never felt as though we were anything but alone here at Featherstone, however. We only saw Minnie a few times during our week stay, and she was always respectful of our privacy. The cottage is further back than Minnie's home, but it is still only steps from the ocean. We always felt like we had the beach to ourselves when we were spending time there.
Minnie has done a great job with different areas for relaxation. There are two gazebos on her beach, each with two hammocks (great for a midday nap!). There are also several beach and lounge chairs for sunbathing. Cayman Brac is a rocky island, but Minnie's beach is one of the nicest we saw during our exploration. The beach is sandy and a bit rocky, but it is not the iron shore that is seen on the majority of the island. Wear water shoes!
The kitchen and living room were the perfect size for us. The bedroom is very beachy-feeling and so comfortable! There is a private deck off of the bedroom which is where the hot tub is currently, along with a table and chairs. We spent almost every night in the hot tub stargazing with homemade piña coladas or daiquiris. The deck no longer has the stairs that come down to the ground-level, as seen in the photo, but we liked it that way - it felt more private! Behind the cottage is a private patio area with a grill, table and chairs, and a hammock.
Minnie made sure that we were very comfortable during our stay. For the first few nights the island was extremely windy, and our power went out to the upstairs at one point. We didn't notice too much because we were gone most of the day, but Minnie called an electrician and the problem was fixed quickly! There is air conditioning in the cottage that we used on occasion, and it was very comfortable and cooled the home quickly.
Overall we loved Cayman Brac and our little cottage at Featherstone! The island is small enough that there isn't much nightlife, but there are plenty of restaurants. If you're looking for an adventure, this island has great hiking, snorkeling, diving, and fishing, and lots of cool history (with no shortage of ways to lounge around). :)
Thanks, Minnie! Can't wait to come back!
My husband and I have visited and stayed on Brac several times, but our last visit we stayed at Featherstone and its been our best experience yet! Although I did not get the privilege to meet Ms. Minnie in person I did have to make an emergency call to her after getting stuck at the airport in Miami and she was kind enough to rearrange our car rental. The house itself was absolutely perfect. My husband is a scuba diver and he was gone all day and I was there by myself and felt perfectly safe and happy. Trust me, you don't even have to lock the doors. I laid out on the beach every day for several hours and then would stroll back to the house and make my lunch and then snooze in a hammock.
The island itself has the kindest people, everyone was so helpful and kind. We had delicious meals at the Brac Reef Resort in the bar area. My only complaint was that we had to leave. I would recommend Featherstone to anyone looking for privacy in a peaceful setting. Thank you Minnie for allowing us to experience this kind of perfection & we will BE BACK!!!!
After a busy wedding week, we stayed at the cottage for two weeks for our honeymoon. It was the best place we could have picked. The location was fabulous with the crystal blue, bath water temperature ocean right out our front door. We kayaked, snorkeled and lounged around in hammocks under the cabana for hours until we retreated to our private cottage. With full kitchen, plenty of fans, a comfortable king sized bed and deck with a hot tub, we were more than comfortable. We had fresh coconut water every day from the many trees that decorate the property. The rest of our time was spent driving around in our pink rental car and flying to Little Cayman for more beautiful scenery. It was the most relaxing, rejuvenating and memorable vacation I have ever had!
My husband and I had the most wonderful stay at Featherstone. We went with the sole purpose to rest and it was absolutely glorious. The grounds of the property were so lovely private, and peaceful. The breeze was constant and the ocean was a feast for the eyes and the ears. Minnie, the owner was so gracious and really honored our need for down time and peace. We are caregivers in our home of my husbands parents so to have 10 days all to ourselves was a dream come true. We plan to return and stay here again. The island was just what we were looking for, remote and beautiful! The apartment was just perfect. Very clean and fresh, and the bed was so comfortable. Really if you want a lovely stay with the one you love I say go here!
We were really excited after reading the cottage description and couldn't wait to make a reservation. It sounded almost too good to be true, but we found it was everything described and more. We were planning to arrive early Saturday evening, but our flight was canceled so we didn't arrive until 9:30 pm. Minnie had arranged a car for us and two really sweet reps met us at the airport and had us follow them to the guest house, which we might not have found on our own. Minnie knew we were not going to be able to get to the store before morning, so, she left us coffee, sugar, creme and a hunk of the world's best banana bread (Minnie's). That was really appreciated the next morning. The cottage is clean and nicely decorated and spacious. The grounds are immaculate, with conch-lined pathways down to the water. We spent almost every sunset in the hammocks under a palapa. We liked them so much, we bought a pair to bring home. The swimming is great, the snorkling is OK, just be sure to bring surf shoes or booties for getting in and out of the water. Minnie was home much of the time we were there, but we always enjoyed our privacy. There is a beautiful private back yard and spa that faces only jungle. Having Wi-Fi was a nice treat, and it let us keep tabs on life so we could relax a little more. The cable TV is tucked away in a little hutch, and mostly stayed that way. We cooked some dinners and went out too. Hiked and explored the island, snorkled at various dive sites. We couldn't have enjoyed our stay more. We would definitely recommend this lovely cottage.
From the moment we stepped foot onto Cayman Brac for our 14 day honeymoon, it was nothing but warm smiles and warm hearts! When we first pulled up to Featherstone, the cottage was exactly as pictured in the ad. Minnie was the most wonderful and perfect hostess. She really pays attention to the little details. There was a fresh flower on the table when we arrived which I thought was just a really nice touch! She happened to be staying at her home while we were there so once we were settled she came and warmly greeted us and then quietly left us to do our thing. She really gives you the privacy you are seeking and a happy smile when you pass each other by. The cottage was just spectacular! It had everything we needed and then some. Out in the back of the cottage was a hot tub under the almond trees. It was divine! We would make a few cocktails and go sit and soak it all in. The weather was amazing while we were there. It was so nice being able to just open all the windows and doors and let the cool island breeze flow through the cottage. For future guests, if it does get warm, the cottage does have an AC unit downstairs and upstairs which was really nice to have. The private beach you are on is, in my honest opinion, one of the best on the island! We drove to the public beach a few times and decided we really liked laying out better back at the cottage. I highly recommend laying on the beach at Featherstone at night and star gazing…you can see every constellation known to man! It was just breath taking! You will also experience some of the most unbelievable sunsets you will ever see. Each evening we would watch the sky transform into a painted masterpiece and then retire to the cottage for dinner. We cooked ourselves dinner most every evening. The cottage comes equipped with all the accoutrements you need including a wonderful gas grill out back. Again I will just say, I was so impressed by all the little details! The free wi/fi was exceptionally nice to have as well as cable. I believe that Minnie and Featherstone far exceeded our expectations! From the moment I contacted her she was so kind and willing to answer all of my questions. She made our rental car arrangements for us and took that off my plate. She helped me feel really prepared to go stay there for 14 days. We will DEFINITELY be returning to Featherstone. I can’t sing its praises enough. You will not be disappointed in fact you will probably find yourself pleasantly surprised!
