When I was growing up, our family went camping and canoeing a lot. We would take 7-10 day trips, paddling and portaging (carrying your canoes, food and gear along connecting trails) from one lake to the next in the Boundary Waters/Quetico Superior lakes of Canada. The Pachaug State Forest and surrounding area reminds me of those great experiences. An incredible place to explore and discover beautiful sights and natural wonders! And, when you want to taste fine wine from a local vineyard, stroll through a popular historic New England town, or roll the dice at the area casinos, it's all just a few minutes away! For us, a perfect combination. We hope you will find it that way, too.
The TreeHouse is a truly unique 2-story house that has what many people call the 'wow factor'. The first floor is roomy and comfortable, with lots of light streaming in throughout the day - facing East toward the lake, as well as South and West. The large cantilevered deck gets plenty of sun, but also offers areas of shade, if you want lower UV rays. The second floor has a magnificent, very high cathedral ceiling with exposed beams, a private deck, home office area and extra large IKEA mirrored wardrobe. How many rental homes have a 24 foot by 24 foot bedroom suite with luxurious KING size bed with memory foam mattress and hypoalergenic pillows? How about a programmable massage chair with multiple pressure point settings, including optional heat? An in-house, new, energy efficient front loading washer and dryer? A hotel-style hair dryer mounted on the bathroom wall? The furniture, kitchen appliances, bathroom, washer and dryer, bed, and linens are all new, not a mixed assortment of old stuff. We have tried to think of amenities that will make your stay above and beyond your expectations...including (2) terry cloth robes! The location is really great, too. The lake entrance is a short walk from the house and if you like hiking...Pachaug State Trails (maps available) start at the north end of the lake and go for miles.
Feel free to email me with any other questions or requests for information!
All the best,
We both want to thank you for providing such a wonderful place for us to enjoy our little vacation. There is nothing more that we could have asked for.
We look forward to staying at The Tree House again!!
We really loved the TreeHouse! The spacious deck, and private bedroom balcony are among foliage and there is literally a tree growing through the deck. The house is very clean and has everything you could possibly need! Martha is a great and very hospitable host, it really does feel like you're home while you are there. The kitchen is perfect for avid and amateur cooks, fully stocked with tools and utensils. My favorite spots are the balcony, the reading corner upstairs with the cool circle decoration hanging right above it, and of course the bedroom! So cozy, every part of the house is cozy! There are neighboring houses, but you hardly notice them and the lake is just a short walk away. Hiking in this forest is a true adventure, we found a 1930's Prohibition whiskey bottle in the forest! We will definitely return for another relaxing getaway at the Tree House!
I intended to write a review of the Tree House several months ago, but life got in the way. The Tree House was one of the best equipped and most thoughtfully stocked houses I have ever rented. And I rent at least once a year.
Having once lived in the general area where this house is located, I'm aware of the heavy traffic and congestion that can occur during the summer there.
The house is situated fairly close to the casinos, the Mystic Aquarium, Mystic Seaport Museum, and the numerous other points of interest. But it's also located outside of the heavily traveled areas which made getting around much easier than staying in town.
The house itself is quite charming, clean, and has a nice view of Lake Billings, which proved to be an excellent fishing spot. The neighborhood is very quiet and secure, and provided a safe haven for my grandchildren who came to visit for a day. I'm still a bit unsure as to whether they came to see me, or were more interested in fishing and swimming in the lake. But I'll take what I can get.
One last point, the owners were a joy to work with - very responsive and eager to please. I highly recommend the TreeHouse for those who want to see and experience what the area has to offer, while avoiding the disadvantages that can be encountered in areas with a high tourist draw.
It was a very nice space for an enjoyable time. Perfect for the two of us.
Beautiful Lake and Martha and Drew were very good hosts.
This wonderful getaway was just what we needed for our Honeymoon. My wife and i love to travel around and this place was a great central location to explore the local seaports and little towns and shops nearby. The 'treehouse' is wonderful and so welcoming on the inside were you can relax and enjoy the view out from the decks. The owners are great to work with and are very helpful in making sure you are having a happy stay. i would definitely recommend this house to any couple that is looking for a scenic, adventurous, quite getaway. Loved our time here we will definitely try to come back again.
I wanted to take my wife to one last trip before our baby's arrival. We love to be down the shore line but I wanted something different this trip. When I read about the Tree House I thought this would be the perfect fit. I was planning this all on my own and was the first time I rented a place where you can bring your own food so I had many questions. All of my questions were answered with a quick and detailed response. The owner of the Tree House was always pleasant and very helpful were I began to feel like she was a long time family friend. She had provided a list of things to do and after reading the great reviews I decided to make my long weekend's itinerary off of her suggestions. Let me tell you the owner was on point! Everything was great. The best part was that some of the suggestions made were places that my wife and I never visited before. The Tree House was a little further than I expected to get to some of the great attractions of Connecticut, however the drive was very nice and worth it. The place itself was very nice and clean. Waking up in the morning and sitting out of the deck was amazing. We have already started to talk about when our next trip to the Tree House will be.
Just what we needed.
We left the city in hopes of having a relaxing weekend, seeing some starts, and enjoying some quiet time.
First off let me say the property owners are wonderful to work with, they have a great "welcome" package with directions to local places, great suggestions, and even some snacks.
The TreehouseCT provided everything: a full-fledged living space with all the amenities: television, computer, full kitchen (my wife and I like to cook for each other), ample seating spaces, a huge bedroom, games, DVDs...and did I mention there's a spacious deck! We sat outside and looked out over the lake (which we easily walked to and spent some time hiking around).
A quick trip into the smaller town provided nice country site seeing, a roadside creamery, and a great diner. A longer trip (15 minutes or so) got us into town for groceries and such).
Privacy, relaxation, and comfort is what we sought. And we got it all and more.
I would recommend this location to anyone looking to relax in a beautiful environment.
Gorgeous, relaxing lake with boat ramp. Billings Lake is part of Pachaug State Forest. Swimming is allowed with use of floatation (paddle board, inflatable tube, raft, etc.). Area offers lots of recreational activities and beautiful scenery. Very nice, easy hiking trails through State Park land within a few hundred yards of the house. Located about 10 minutes drive to Foxwoods Casino. Mystic Village attractions , CT and Rhode island beaches approx. 10-15 miles. Summer and Fall festivals abound in neighboring communities. Please note: Because of FIRE hazard, we do NOT allow barbeque grills, or fires of any kind on the property.
