Villefranche-sur-Mer Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Old town apartment near the beach, 2 beds, big terrace and view over the sea .

'Artistes Tresor' is a beautiful apartment in the heart of the old town with a large terrace and breathtaking sea view over the whole bay of Villefranche Sur Mer. Being in the best location in town makes it the perfect setting for a wonderful holiday. Enter the doorway of the house built in the 16th century and be uplifted by the view that is truly unforgettable. The local agent described the apartment, renovated by the artist owner, as 'giving the feeling of being in another poetic world'. Our guests return time and time again. Discover all that VIllefranche has to offer moments away. Great restaurants, the beach and sea a few minutes walk away and the village full of history and charm. The local shops are on the doorstep. With its micro-climate it is perfect here all year round. Without doubt this is one of the worlds most romantic and beautiful locations, within easy access of Nice airport. This is an old village apartment designed for comfort for all the family. Join us soon!

All Year Round: The location is perfect for a holiday any time of the year as the area has so much to offer and Villefranche benefits from a micro climate. Rue Obscure, which is one of the oldest streets in France runs under the apartment and is unchanged since the 14th century. Villefranche is the most charming and authentic town on the Cote d’Azur, nestled on the spectacular shores of the Bay of Villefranche, yet just minutes from Nice and Monaco. Still a genuine French fishing village with a wonderful local culture — yet also attracting a very interesting international group of visitors and residents, including students that attend the renowned French language institute called the Institut Français. This is a wonderful area for walkers with the coastal paths and the hills close by. For example there is a superb walk around Cap Ferrat (about eight miles). The American sixth fleet were stationed here during the second world war.

Villas and Gardens to visit: The unique micro climate has facilitated the development of world renowned gardens which are open to the public such as Villa & Jardin Ephrussi de Rothschild on Cap Ferrat, and Villa & Jardin Kerylos in Beaulieu sur Mer, both within walking distance. There are additional renowned gardens in the area of Menton.

Jean Cocteau Chapel and the Citadel: Jean Cocteau painted the interior of this most beautiful chapel on the waterfront. It has been recently restored to its former glory. Ville franche is a village full of art and artists.

Visit the ramparts of the Citadel and take the guided tour into the Sculpture Gallery and through the cobbled street of the old towns history. Visit the tourist office for details.

I found myself in Villefranche in 2003 for the first time. I was enchanted from the outset and saw my apartment on the same day I arrived. I decided to sell my house in London to buy it and knew that I would have to share it from time to time in order to pay for this expensive impulse......It is the best thing I have ever done. I hope you love it as much as I do!

Mattie Silman purchased this apartment in 2003

I realised that the location and view of the sea was priceless. The uniqueness of the location and the age of the building is something that can't be replaced - it has evolved over hundreds of years. It truly is the best location in the South of France. It still retains it's charm due to the fact there are no big hotels around and about.

Being in a village is lovely with the sea a short walk away. It has everything. Restaurants, gorgeous walks, easy transport. I love to sit on my terrace watching the activity in the bay. The beautiful morning skies as the sun rises which you can see on my website. Watching the moon go down over Cap Ferrat. This is my great pleasure and relaxation in life. Sharing this with my guests keeps it all going.......

Artistes trésor is a true gem; a very comfortable and beautifully decorated apartment in the midst of the Old Town of Villefranche-sur-mer. It has a rather big terrace with a stunning view of the bay, Cap Ferrat and the Mediterranean. We have been in Villefranche many times, and believe that you cannot find a better located or more charming and comfortable place to stay.
Owner's Response: How lovely to know that my guests love to come back and appreciate the apartment even more the second time around. We look forward to welcoming and introducing new guests to the charm of this special place.......

What a little gem Artistes Tresor is! My family (me plus my husband and three teenage sons) stayed here for a week and we couldn't have been more comfortable. We really felt like part of the community .. The apartment is right in the old town on the second floor of an old building with great views over the bay. We spent hours sitting on the lovely little balcony happily watching the boats coming in and out of the bay. Tip: bring binoculars for better spying! It was an easy stroll to all the restaurants in the town and the little supermarket is almost next door! The beach is also an easy stroll along the harbour wall. And the train station is a five minute walk down the hill and gives access to lots of interesting places up and down the coast - we made day trips to Eze and Ventimiglia in Italy.
The apartment is very comfortable and immaculately clean and felt like a home from home. The owner has a policy of leaving things that other guests have left so the kitchen had salt, pepper, sugar, tea, coffee, oil, vinegar, washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs and even some foodstuffs like rice and pasta etc. I have rented lots of properties and i have never seen this before - it made such a difference not to have to go out and buy all these things! Thank you Mattie! Sue, the property manager, met us from our taxi and showed us to the apartment and gave us tips on what to do and where to eat etc. and even booked a taxi for one of our sons who had to leave earlier than us - she couldn't have been more charming or helpful.
I cannot recommend Artistes Tresor highly enough!
Owner's Response: Love to get wonderful reviews like this....
Hoping to have many more happy customers.

This is, unquestionably, the most beautiful haven of beauty, peace and tranquilty on the French Riviera!
The apartment is everything one could ask for, either for a short or long term stay. The position in the town makes it so easy to get around and shop locally, whilst the excellent and regular transport also makes it easy to get around the entire Cote d'azur.
The apartment is well laid out, with truly breathtaking views from the balcony and it is very well equipped and heated - an important aspect to a Winter stay.
There is a good selection of restuarants in the town and interesting sights and places of interest to visit in the area. There are antique markets, fruit and vegetable markets and an historical walking tour of Villefranche, which is well worth doing. If you enjoy walking, there is no better place to be based. Villefranche has a micro climate, so with the bright and sunny but gloriously crispy days, we could not have asked for anything more perfect in the middle of Winter.
We were provided with excellent service and advice and the apartment was a 'home from home' with a great selection of books, dvds and a welcoming gift. We shall definitely be returning to this little corner of heaven on earth and to "L'artistes Tresor"!
Owner's Response: To many this review may seem too good to be true and I might think so if I had written it myself. However, I didn't and it is absolutely genuine! I am so happy to hear that my renters enjoy this unique location as much as I do.......this winter has been especially mild and I just came back with a tan after two weeks 24th January 2012. It did snow a couple of days ago which is very unusual but then the sun came out and friend told me it was warm again......
That is the beauty of the winter as the sun doesn't stay away for long and the light is crystal clear which you can see on my website
Hope to see you soon,

Our party of 6 (my husband, 2 children in their mid-20's and their partners) were looking for some end of season sun in the lovely, vibrant Villefranche Old Town. Our apartment was in the best location for us, near to shops, bars, restaurants, the dive shop below us, bus and train. No need to worry about driving, it's all there at hand. The apartment is beautifully presented, light, airy, spacious, fully equipped, and with a view to die for overlooking the harbour and the Cap. A thoroughly enjoyable week and we even managed the odd dip in the Med. Thank you Mattie, hope to return soon.

Owner's Response: I hope this lovely review encourages guests to visit this area at any time of year. Villefranche is always wonderful in itself and is close to so many great places to visit. Someone said to me today, "just to breathe the champagne air" is the best tonic!
Out of season which is between mid October to the end of March has great advantages, one of which are some special offers. You will be welcomed wholeheartedly at any time of year but please book early so as not to be disappointed. I also have other lovely apartments to offer you which belong to friends of mine in the area.

Car: not necessary

Villefranche is situated 4km from Nice Centre and 7km from Nice International airport. A well kept secret as it retains it's charm due to lack of major hotels nearby. You can happily spend all your time in the Village discovering it's wonderful history and why artists such as Jean Cocteau and Sommerset Maughan loved this area so much. In the 60's the music of the Rolling Stones could be heard across the bay from their villa on Cap Ferrat. Yet the village still retains it's authentic feeling. If you do wish to venture forth, the train which is 7 mins away runs all along the coast. Nice or Monaco are ten mins away or you can be in Italy (Ventimiglia) in 40 mins. The village of Eze is 20 mins by car or St Paul de Vence, Cannes and Antibes about 40 mins. A car is not essential and the walks here are fabulous. There is parking nearby. This is the best location on this fabulous coast by far. The French language Institute, Institut Francais, is a 10 minute walk away.

Other Activities: the area is full of art and history.

Ski: One and a half hours and you can be in the mountain snows if you love skiing in the winter.

There are wonderful food shops on the doorstop and there is a small supermarket three doors away. Everything you could possibly need is outside your front door. A car is not necessary as the public transport is excellent. We provide beach towels. I leave various condiments in the store cupboard as there is nothing worse than finding the cupboard empty when you arrive and having to buy just about everything. My kitchen compact and fully equipped with granite work surfaces.
