EL NIDO DEL RIO GRANDE (NESTLED BETWEEN TAOS AND SANTA FE)

Dixon House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 6-9)

''El Nido del Rio Grande'' - The Nest of the Big River (or ''River Nest'') house is a beautiful new 2,000 sf ''Santa Fe style'' house in the river canyon between Santa Fe and Taos. Located in an historic apple orchard along the Rio Grande in Rinconada, New Mexico, near Dixon and Embudo, this property is a dream house with a private beach along the river-perfect for swimming, fishing, floating and relaxing. This green, tree-filled property is only 20 miles from Taos and 45 miles from Santa Fe, close to all the wonderful museums, shops, restaurants and galleries you love. Located on the Rio Grande itself, river runners of all sorts are beckoned to our beach landing floating or running the whitewater Race Course.

The upstairs master suite includes a queen bed, a private balcony with views of the river canyon across the orchards, and a stone-tile bathroom with a lovely deep bath tub below corner windows with magnificent views of sky and canyon.

Two downstairs bedrooms are spacious and cozy; one has a queen bed, the other has two twin beds. A queen-sized sleeper sofa and a second full sized sofa are located in the living room for additional sleepers. The spacious Great Room has high ceilings, a wood fireplace, and is beautifully furnished. It opens to a full kitchen with granite counter tops and all appliances, and onto a patio (''portal'') a great outdoor living and eating area. The house also has a large laundry room with washer & dryer, and a two-car carport.

With easy access to Santa Fe, Taos, and all the rural artist studios of northern New Mexico, this brand new house offers convenient, cozy and reasonable accommodations for your group in a classic northern New Mexico setting. It is a beautiful and comfortable property for all seasons and moods. We welcome you to our little bit of heaven along the Rio Grande in New Mexico!

Nido del Rio--center of exploration and relaxation

  • 5 of 5
We are repeat customers at the Nido--two weeks last year and nearly three weeks this year. It is a very comfortable home set in a laid-back, rural environment, surrounded by a small orchard. While isolated, it is an easy drive to locations such as the Rio Grande del Norte National monument, Bandelier National Monument, Ghost Ranch, and the galleries and museums in Taos and Santa Fe. Hiking, Fishing, rafting, and dining opportunities abound. The small coop in nearby Dixon can fill most of your grocery needs and the local wineries and brewery produce excellent libations. Add in a varied but generally agreeable spring climate in northern New Mexico, it all sums up to a relaxing and inspirational respite from day to day affairs.

Birthday celebration

Delightful home--well equiped with everything needed--especially the kitchen. Lee next door greeted us upon arrival, and was available for any needs that might have come up. We all took advantage of the lovely circle walk down to the Rio Grande. Beautiful rural setting, and an ideal place to stay for the Dixon studio tour.

Lovely retreat!

  • 5 of 5
Our recent stay at this particular property was a wonderful respite from our normal busy world. Comfortably appointed with a well-equipped kitchen, there were a couple of "not mentioned" bonuses! First, the abundance of hummingbirds...totally delightful and vastly entertaining. If sitting on the patio, they would get close and check you out! The other surprise was the deck off the master suite at night! You forget how magnificent the New Mexican sky can be! The owner is easy to work with and the property manager was friendly and helpful! Just what I have come to expect fom VRBO properties! The only drawback for us was no TV and at our age we enjoy TV in the evening and catching the local news. Great WiFi, though! We are in the 55+ group and I think you just need to be aware that the master suite is upstairs! The drive to restaurants, Taos and activities is easy if you know ahead of time that this is the situation. All in all a relaxing and wonderful vacation!

Great vacation headquarters

Our group included three generations and it seemed perfect for all. Nice, comfortable furnishings. Extremely easy access to full range of regional activities. Also, great to just hang out, grill, sit on the patio, and watch the hummingbirds.

Hummingbird heaven

  • 5 of 5
We spent two lovely days here in late July with our two water-loving dogs. Even though we live just down the road in Santa Fe, it felt like a real get-away here--you're surrounded by fruit trees, greenery and wildlife, and of course, water! We loved the private beach and spent our days reading, kayaking and wading in the water (which wasn't really deep enough for us to swim in, but the four-legged ones were able to). The house itself is very comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed to make terrific meals, which we ate on the patio each evening to the sight and sound of hordes of hummingbirds surrounding the feeders. And if you feel like venturing out, as others have noted, wineries are just down the road and the excellent Zuly's is a short drive away. If you're looking for rest and relaxation, this is the place!

Spring in New Mexico.

  • 5 of 5
After a couple of hectic weeks of travel and long hours of work, we were looking for comfort and quiet, and we found it. In fact, with convenient access to a whole host of activities, the location was even better than expected. The only downside was a cooktop where temperature could not be reduced sufficiently, and cookware that was guaranteed to stick (we burned a lot of rice before figuring out how to prepare it in the oven and never did cook a decent fried egg). But otherwise, no complaints.
