Notting Hill Apartment Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms garden sleeps 6

Beautiful duplex on a lovely quiet street in London's fashionable Notting Hill!

Notting Hill is an area in West London, in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The area is most well-known for Portobello Market (on Portobello Road, unsurprisingly), which runs every day except Sundays, and the Notting Hill Carnival, held every year on the last weekend in August.

Two of my favourite smaller London museums are both within walking distance of Notting Hill. Leighton House and Linley Sambourne House are excellent examples of everyday life in the 1890's in London. Any fan of the Victorian Aesthetics Movement in art/books/lifestyle should make one of these museums a must visit!!!

Of course, we couldn't talk about Notting Hill without mentioning the film and the BLUE DOOR Released in 1999 and starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, the film did much to promote and raise interest in the area.It was the reason so many shops relocated here and why other long standing ones had to close as the area became more expensive. It really has changed so much in the last 20 years. The area has so many shops and it's a foodie heaven with delis, coffee shops, tea rooms galore!

About the Flat: The flat offers our guests plenty of space. The fact that it's split level allows a spacious environment to relax in.The kitchen is fully stocked with all the bits and pieces you'll need to ensure that cooking here will be a delight! Please take the shopping trolley out and stock up on fresh fruit and vegetables for your stay. The market is the place to head for this. There are also some excellent deli's within a few minutes walk. The closest large supermarket is 5 minutes away.

After a day out shopping one can simply enjoy the garden and a glass of wine and unwind.

The flat also has a power shower within a roomy bathroom.

Notting Hill is a great place to visit, from its cafes and restaurants, its market and boutique shops, to its many pubs and bars. It holds much in the way of entertainment, whatever your interest - be it shopping, dining, film, drinking, clubbing or more!

Things to do: Notting Hill still has three excellent independent cinemas and I would suggest visiting at least one of them on your visit. The Electric Cinema is closet to the flat and is a must see for any film lover.

If you're a lover of music than a visit to the original Rough Trade shop on nearby Talbot Road is a must see! You'll find a vast array of recorded music and their walls of plastered with posters/handbills from the past 50 years of music in London. If Jazz is more up your street than a trip to Honest Jon's on Portobello Road.

Books Books Books...yes this area still has some independent shops left. I mentioned that the Travel Bookshop is up for sale..but still trading(This is due to close Sept/2011)(now closed Dec 11). There's the excellent Books For Cooks on Blenheim Cres. Yes, it's all about food here and they also have special cookery evenings and plenty of authors signing their latest cookbook.

One can really walk to several places of interest. I walked the entire way into the West End last week...passing several wonderful attractions. The walk did take about one hour and 10 minutes but on a lovely day it made us realise why we love London so much! You can walk via Hyde Park and pass the Royal Albert Hall and the Albert Memorial...and head up to Wellington Arch and straight down Piccadilly into Soho/Covent Garden. One needs to remember to wear comfortable shoes though!

If you're booking during the summer season than an open air concert should be on the list of things to do. The flat is very close to Holland Park where one can listen and see Opera in the Park. This park is a pure delight...not as big as the other Royal Parks but it has a lovely Japanese Garden...not to mention the Peacocks and other wildlife.

PLEASE NOTE-WE DO OUR BEST TO KEEP OUR CALENDAR UP TO DATE.WE ALSO HAVE OTHER FLATS THAT COULD BE AVAILABLE.PLEASE CONTACT US FOR MORE DETAILS.

What makes this apartment unique

The short stroll to the world famous Portobello Market is one of the numerous highlights of staying in Notting Hill. There are numerous cafes and restaurants just a short walk from the flat that cover all tastes and budgets.Every Friday and Saturday walk 4 mins from the flat and browse the stalls of the markets selling everything from vintage clothing, antiques, records, books and just about anything else one can think of.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Charlene and James,

Thanks for your e-mail.

We are now back in Sweden. The trip home was ok, but we had some unexpected stops on the way to Gatwick so we were very late, but finally managed to catch the plane in time.

We had a great stay at your flat and enjoyed our London holiday very much. After being in London City for many hours we apreciated to get "home" and walk the peaceful streets down to your flat. The location couldn´t be better and the flat was really great!

Unfortunately we didn´t get the oportunity to visit your record store. We save that for next time.

We would be happy to come back again someday to live in your nice flat.

Kind regards,

Björn with family

Lovely, homely accomodation close to Portobello

  • 4 of 5

We found this maisonette to be the perfect base for our family of 5 during our recent stay in London. It's location is absolutely superb - minutes away from the vibrant Portobello markets and gorgeous Notting Hill and close to a number of different tube lines. The house itself is clean, warm, and cosy and is very well equipped with all the essentials one needs on holiday. Being mid-winter we were unable to benefit from the garden, but we imagine being able to spend enjoyable evenings out there when we come again one summer :) One last comment is that we found James and Charlene, and their greeter, Alex, to be extremely approachable and great at communicating both in the lead up to the trip and during our stay :) All in all this apartment contributed to a really wonderful week in London! Thanks!

Best Location for our London Adventure

  • 4 of 5

Who doesn't want to stay in the swanky part of London? This was the perfect location for our family during our Spring Break trip.

The flat was a great set up for our family of 4 including 2 teen sons. They each chose their room. It was nice to have space to spread out and relax.

Our greeter, Helen, couldn't have been more cheerful and helpful when we arrived a little late in the evening from Copenhagen. She filled us in on everything we needed to know.

The location is perfect. We spent Saturday morning wandering the Portobello Road Market which is just a couple of blocks away. There's a grocery store with friendly staff just a few blocks the other direction. We felt completely safe walking there quite late our first night. The Tube Station is about a 10 minute walk but it's a walk full of fun shops, beautiful homes and great places to eat so it may take you longer!

The only downside was the neighbors we shared the building with - which can't be controlled. Our first night and day were very quiet, but then they must have returned late Sunday night. Our last couple of days we had at least one time where it sounded like they were dragging furniture around their flat while performing River Dance in tap shoes. The next night they had their music on quite late at night. I suggest some earplugs for night time. I assume this is just the nature of these old row houses and the way they have been broken up in to flats. We called it our "unique London experience". It didn't ruin the stay but I it was a annoyance after a long day of sight-seeing. I think we got even when we took showers at 4:30 the morning we left. The shower pump makes a lot of noise. :-)

Owner's Response: We are so pleased you enjoyed the flat and the location of Notting Hill. It really has changed so much over the past 20 years! It's just so lovely to walk around the streets and take in all the beautiful surroundings.I'm sorry to hear that the neighbours were loud...as noise can travel in Victorian conversions. They are normally very quiet,so hopefully this was just a one off.We would be delighted to welcome you back again.I will pass on your kind comments to Helen too.She is such a great greeter and loves Notting Hill! Best Wishes Charlene and James

Lovely 3 bedroom flat in wonderful Notting Hill

  • 5 of 5

My 2 adult sisters and I couldn't have been more pleased with this Notting Hill flat. The downstairs was very comfortable. There was plenty of seating (a sofa and a sling back chair), and a nearby kitchen table/chairs. The kitchenette was cute and perfect for our simple meals and take-away. With one bedroom downstairs and two twin-bedrooms upstairs, along with a large, updated bath, it was a perfect set-up for us. The neighborhood was very, very quiet, and we enjoyed walking back and forth from the tube station (10-15 minutes away). It felt very safe. Portobello Market (best on Saturdays) was right down the street. Note to future renters: Getting out of Notting Hill Station requires carrying your luggage up a couple of flights of stairs. (I forgot about that from past trips.) The VR owners provided info on arranging a cab in advance, and we used that info to get back to the airport. Totally worth 57 quid. Their handy "where to find things in Notting Hill" was quite helpful. I would absolutely rent this flat again. It is convenient to everything, very affordable, and really comfortable, too. Plus, the owners were very easy to deal with from start to finish. Thanks!!!

Fabulous Flat in Notting Hill

  • 5 of 5

Just stayed at this adorable property last week and we could not have been happier. It is just as cute as the pictures online and so well equipped, we needed nothing. The kitchen is compact but perfect for doing everything. We did not cook, but the gas stove was impressive. GREAT WiFi (which was a big deal for us because although we were "off" work, we had to check email frequently. Beds are very comfortable, shower is powerful and has plenty of hot water. I had a damn cold and was able to feel very cozy sleeping upstairs and I never touched the heat settings. They were perfect. My colleague prefers a bit cooler temp, so she stayed in the bedroom downstairs and was very happy. The location is incomparable. Steps to everything and so many super shops and restaurants. The Tube is maybe 10 minutes, Literally around the corner from Portobello Road and the market. Our greeter, Helen, was friendly and professional and patiently showed us every knob, switch, door, etc. I cannot imagine ever wanting to stay anyplace in London but this cute flat. I felt like Twiggy/Jean Shrimpton/Julie Christie living the swinging London scene in the 60's--BUT--with modern conveniences! I used 247 radio cab to get to Heathrow Sunday morning, by the way, and they were great -30 BP. Yeah, going to Paddington and taking the Express is way cheaper but I had a lot of luggage and I did not feel like ruining my "holiday" by going through that effort. Highest recommendation--from a very picky, American frequent traveler!

Not a three bedroom

  • 3 of 5

This was advertised as a 3 bedroom, but the 3rd one has a twin blow up mattress. This may be fine for a child, but not for an adult. So please do not list it as 3 bedroom. Also this "3rd" bedroom has a street light directly outside which made it like daytime in the room. A room darkening curtain would really help. If you equipped this room with a real bed and darkening curtain, I would raise my rating of this place.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments. The bed has now been replaced by a high quality single bed from John Lewis/with an excellent mattress.I agree that the airbed could be fine for a child but not ideal for an adult. We are also fitting a black out blind to the room.I'm pleased to hear that other than the above issues you enjoyed the flat. Best Charlene and James
