We have vacationed in Akumal and Half Moon bay several times, this was our first stay at Playa Caribe, we selected unit 11 which is a 2BR/2BA penthouse unit, can also be rented as a 1BR. We would recommend this condo to others and definitely stay here again. The owners were great to work with and very responsive.
Playa Caribe is on the beach at Half Moon Bay, unit 11 is the center unit on the top floor and sits well forward of the 2 other condos that floor, this layout gives you unobstructed ocean views and the feeling there are no other condos surrounding you. The condo is clean, spacious, quiet, and well maintained with all the amenities you would expect. There is a king bed in the master, a queen bed and futon in the second BR, a large bathroom attaches to each bedroom. There is filtered water from the faucets and good water pressure; AC runs great and lots of ceiling fans; free wiFi with very good reception; 2 TV's with satellite and a few English speaking channels, a DVD and stereo. The staff did a wonderful job and were always very friendly.
It is quite a climb to get to this condo but you will be rewarded with spectacular views of HMB from every window, even from the showers! The patio is where we spent most of our time when we were in the condo - listening to the surf, watching rays, turtles and lots of fish each day, the water of HMB is crystal clear.
On the beach there are 3 palapas and also beach chairs. There is a small, well maintained pool area with a few tables/umbrellas. My only complaint about Playa Caribe is that the pool is situated very close to an abandoned property. HMB is shallow and calm, good for snorkeling and swimming, but entering the bay is somewhat rocky so water shoes recommended. The beach at HMB is never crowded. We prefer Akumal beach for snorkeling and swimming
It is a short walk to several restaraunts, a great beach bar, a dive outfitter, and a convenience store. You can walk to Akumal and Yal-Kul lagoon. We walk everywhere although bikes and golf carts are available for rental. There are 2 small groceries in Akumal (pricey). We loaded up on groceries at the super Chedraui in Puerto Aventuras. Shuttle drivers will stop here if you ask - tip accordingly. Akumal Pueblo (across the highway) has shops with excellent local prepared food to bring back to your condo.
This is a lovely, quiet and relaxing beach, we enjoyed staying here and we would highly recommend it to others.
