Mariposa Ridge Retreat is a ten-acre hilltop home with panoramic views of the seasonal snow capped peaks in Yosemite and the quaint village below. Located just 1.5 miles outside of the historic Gold mining County seat of Mariposa, the 'Mother of California's Counties.' We are 38 miles from Yosemite National Park, and just ten minutes from the Merced River which winds along Highway 140 for 23 miles into the Park. One of the most scenic drives on the planet. Don't miss the river drive into YOSEMITE!
The home was built in 2005 and features a King Suite, a Queen bedroom and two full-size double beds in the third bedroom. There are extra twin futons & bedding for a small upcharge. There are two full baths. The master has a larger soaking tub. There is a 500 square foot deck with six foot circular HOT SPRINGS Spa overlooking the Mariposa Valley along with picnic table, umbrella and a charcoal barbecue. The water comes from a deep mountain well fed by year-round Sierra snowpack. Roam the ten hilltop acres along with deer and wild Sierra birds.
Bring your clothes and food (linens and towels are provided) and come home to peaceful mountain air and escape the rat race below. (Mariposa is the ONLY California County without a single Traffic Light!). PLEASE NOTE: Check-in at 3pm day of arrival and Check-out at 11 am. Be sure to visit our website for complete info.

We built Mariposa Ridge Retreat as our vacation home and have had a wonderful 9 years meeting and greeting folks from all over the world...we spend a few days each month 'getting away from' our everyday work schedule...our main home is in Santa Margarita, Ca. a few miles north of San Luis Obispo.
Steve & Susan Lach purchased this chateau / country house in 2005
We fell in love with area...it is so beautiful and peaceful.
Decompress from stress, rest, peacefulness, fresh air, serenity.
We had a wonderful time using the comforts of Mariposa Ridge Retreat as a base for our visit to Yosemite. The drive to Yosemite is about 45 minutes but enjoyable. The home has everything you will need and is quite secluded. The deck has a great view from the top of the ridge and hot tub was very welcome after hiking all day. So many stars at night! The owners are great people.
I wanted to take a "working vacation," so I could spend my days on vacation and work online at night while my wife was asleep. So I chose this property because it listed "Internet: YES" on the overview page.
THE BAD: This property DOES NOT have ANY internet access. If you read the fine print carefully (which I didn't) , by "internet available" the owner means that there is WiFi available two miles away at some burger joint in Mariposa. Steve (the owner) told me that the "internet: YES" on the overview page was a "typo."
Also the property isn't as secluded as the pictures would suggest. There is a house just 50 yards behind with semi trucks parked all around it, which I can clearly see out the kitchen window. You can also see and hear the neighbors when they are outside, or when they startup the semi trucks. This is more of a "ranchette" than a secluded mountain top retreat. May be considered "secluded" if you're from the city.
THE POSITIVE: Great views of the sunrise in the morning. Hot tub out on the deck is a great way to spend the evenings. Very roomy, very clean. Master bathroom is HUGE, and very well stocked with linens. Just secluded enough to be quiet but NOT private. Easy drive to Yosemite. Overall great for getting away from it all, without being too far from it all. It gets cold at night the time of year we stayed, but the heat works well and there is a very nice faux fireplace in the living room which is cozy. PLENTY of blankets in the bedrooms.
I would have given this property four or five stars if it had both of the only two features for which I rented it: the hot tub AND internet service. Because internet availability was misrepresented, I gave it a 50% rating because I feel I only got 50% of what I thought I was paying for.
I suggest you call the owner before you book to ensure that all the features you may be counting on this property having actually exist.
Excellent base camp to visit Yosemite and the surrounding parks. Average drive to/from the cabin was about 45 minutes and its a fantastic drive. We really appreciated being able to make a quick drive down the the town of Mariposa to get supplies and enjoy a nice meal at the local restaurants.
Cell service is non-existent on Sprint, however, AT&T has no issue. Some additional amenities would be nice. There is a tv but only a limited amount of channels. It would be nice if there bunch of board games/puzzles/cards to play or horse shoes/bags/bocce ball for outside.
The cabin itself is very easy to get to and well marked with signs. It's comfortable and spacious with a great deck and hot tube. The hot tub was a perfect way to spend the evenings after a long hike.
The owners are very responsive and will go out of their way to make sure everything is ok. We really appreciated everything they did to make us feel at home.
Great price and great value for a trip to Yosemite. I'd stay here again.
Clean, beautiful, peacefull.
A perfect getaway. A home away from home.
My family of 4 + Grandma spent a lovely weekend at the house. It was exactly as described, right down to the deer wandering by the kitchen windows in the morning. The drive to Yosemite is lovely and Mariposa is nearby for groceries or a bite to eat.
What a wonderful place to relax! The Mariposa Getaway was just what we needed! We had amazing weather, enjoyed the spa and great accommodations. The house was clean and well maintained. Spent two days driving in and out of Yosemite...hadn't enjoyed the valley for many years. Steve & Sue are well known in Mariposa. The bonus for us...Butterfly Festival in town...very quaint and enjoyable. Beer tasting at Prospectors Brewery was fun. We zip lined at the Yosemite Zip Line in Mariposa. Learned so much about the history and people. Thanks for a great experience! We will definitely tell our friends about this great escape and come back again!
There is a new fun feature only 4 miles from Mariposa Ridge Retreat...Yosemite ZIPLINE Adventures...it has 7 runs and is an absolute blast for the entire family...209 742 3493...ask for Brian or Vicki and tell them Steve & Sue sent you...!!!
