please visit <www.tripadvisor.com>for reviews. Many quests tell us what a great time they had and what a wonderful place. When they get back to the states they get caught up in the hurried daily routine and soon forget to leave feedback.
Our main purpose for coming to Roatan Island was to snorkel a healthy reef. We are avid snorkelers and found a huge variety of corals, beautiful fish and other incredible sea life. Now that the entire island is a marine preserve, it is patrolled daily.
When we travel we like to live like the locals with as much privacy as possible. We found this and much more at Hobbies Hideaway. John and Sue treated us like family and went far above and beyond the call of duty to assure we had everything we needed and were enjoying ourselves. They were always available.
If you're looking for mints on your pillow and 1000 count cotton sheets, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for an island experience right on the beach with a swim out to an incredible reef, this is your place. Hobbies Hideaway is rustic but very clean and has everything you need. We cooked all our meals for two weeks with the exception of two lunches when we were touring the island with John and when we went into West End. If I needed a special pot or spice, all I had to do was ask. We highly recommend the half day snorkel trip with Ronald, who works there. He took us to special places we couldn't have gotten to on our own.
The wooden outdoor covered patio is a great place for relaxing and having your meals.
Any time we needed to go to the grocery store, John took us. Other places we went we went by taxi. They come by regularly and are inexpensive. We didn't feel the need to rent a car.
We highly recommend this place as a vacation spot. We'll be back
This is a great location, close to town and right on the ocean, but not crowded like the West End. More importantly, a genuine spirit of hospitality and generosity from the hosts complete the experience of being on Roatan. Also, their local knowledge made anything we wanted to do or find very easy. We would definitely stay here again.
Hobbies Hideaway...what a great vacation. John and Sue are wonderful hosts. We were really impressed with the great location. It is secluded and very well maintained. And , it is less than 50 steps to the water. The beaches were raked and cleaned daily. John not only transported us to and from the airport but, he and Sue took us shopping(groceries)twice. We were there for Christmas of 2014. John and Sue decorated the beautiful outdoor lanai with lights and a Christmas tree. They also brought all the guest some homemade Key-lime pie. You will not feel like just a number when you visit this place. These folks care about their guest having a wonderful vacation. Buz/Elaine would like to thank John/Sue for being such wonderful hosts. We look forward to returning.
The property is exactly as described (maybe a bit better) and John is an amazing host. He picked us up and dropped us off at the airport, acted as our personal well-informed tour guide, set-up fishing and snorkeling excursions, and generally took great care of us all week. He even made the most amazing lunch for us from our fishing catch! I went on a few dives with Coconut Tree Divers that were excellent while we were there, but I didn't see anything better than what we saw on the reef right in front of the condo. The description mentions you will have use of a kayak, but what makes it so wonderful is that it has an anchor!! Miles and miles of pristine coral right in front of the condo and you can explore all of it!! I'm pretty sure that's exactly what heaven is like. Can't wait to come back! Thanks John and Sue!
Hi John and Sue, We hope you are doing well sorry for being late with my thank you for all your wellcoming care and help. Your place just some meters away from the coral reef is the closest I can think to a paradise on earth. Your house is like our warm home away from our cold Canada. I recommend this place for those souls who indulge themselves in a quiet, safe environment, and specially one stone throw away from the coral reef and a tamed crystal clear acqua Caribben sea. This place is close enough to any other places for those who love music and outings, but returning to sleep in a peaceful haven. We hope to come back as soon as we can, all our friends now about your piece of heaven, and hospitality. The complete house, bedrooms, kitchen, washroom, airconditioning are excellent. If you had included a 6 star in your rating we had given it to you!!
Muchas gracias (Thank you very much)

Another great stay at Hobbie's Hideaway! Hiring Miss Betty, an islander cook with culinary skills that could challenge to be the best on the island, was the smartest decision I made! Miss Betti cooked so many amazing dishes, cleaned the kitchen after serving our family and made our family vacation less work for mom so that I could enjoy the rest and relaxation as well. Miss Laura coming in to clean up behind my pack of boys definitely took a load off of mom as well! John and Sue's hospitality and great island "home" make the stay a lot of fun for all. Between fishing and snorkeling trips with Ronald, the boat captain and property caretaker, the kayaks and paddle boat, snorkel gear and amazing beachfront, grilling on the beach, maid service, traditional island cook, massive covered deck with stereo system and big screen, great security from Taboo the island "wonderdog", the knowledgeable and personal service whether it be seclusion and privacy or fun gatherings amongst the guests, Hobbie's Hideaway is the best, smartest and reasonably priced island getaway and home away from home. You couldn't ask for better location, view, lodging and hosts than you will find at Hobbie's. John, Miss Sue, Ronald, Miss Laura and Miss Betti make vacation and island flair relaxing, fun and always a great time! I know we will keep coming back to Hobbie's Hideaway as long as John & Sue will keep letting us come!
