Woodstock House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + 3 Baths, Sleeps 6

Situated in the heart of the historic Shenandoah Valley, Deer Haven offers easy access to unparalleled views of the valley on twenty secluded acres backing up to the National Forest.

Deer Haven is only 100 miles to Washington, DC, thirty minutes to Shenandoah National Park, Bryce and Massanutten Ski resorts, and the spectacular Luray Caverns, and just minutes away from numerous Civil War battlefields, wineries, the Shenandoah River, and National Forest hiking trails.

The home has a fully-stocked, eat-in kitchen, two baths, and large decks with a grill, fire-pit, and hot tub for relaxing. Two bedrooms are on the second floor - the master bedroom boasts a wall of windows overlooking the Shenandoah Valley and River. The private third bedroom suite is on the ground floor with its own bathroom, sitting room, wet bar, and great views. The living area contains a wood burning stove, comfortable seating, and plenty of games, movies, and books to snuggle up with.

The towns of Edinburg and Woodstock offer great shopping, dining, antiques, coffee shops and art galleries.

If you are looking for a convenient getaway that offers endless views and tranquility, Deer Haven is the place for you.

**NOTE FOR WINTER GUESTS:

We do occasionally get snow in the area. The road up to the cabin is steep in some sections. We will do our best to have the road plowed in the event it does snow however, if the road has packed snow or ice, it will be very difficult to manage without four-wheel or all-wheel drive.

We will work with guests in the event of inclement weather to see that they can reach and enjoy the cabin. That said, guests should monitor the weather and plan on taking a four wheel or all wheel drive vehicle during the winter months in the event there is snow or ice. If the road is impassible by four-wheel vehicle, we will honor a partial or full refund depending on the circumstances.

About John Favazzo

Friends John, Matt, and Mark traveled the world together before realizing the beautiful Shenandoah Valley was in their back yard. The thought of enjoying a cup of coffee or reading a book on Deer Haven's porches overlooking the valley was too inviting to resist. They decided to purchase Deer Haven together as a convenient weekend getaway from the grind of the city. Now they are opening their home to visitors to share the delightful views and tranquility of Deer Haven.

John Favazzo purchased this house in 2011

Why John Favazzo chose Woodstock

The owners chose the Edinburgh area primarily because of its charm, natural beauty and easy access to Washington, DC (just 100 miles). Only 20 miles from Bryce and 30 miles from Massanutten, Luray, and Front Royal, Deer Haven is truly centrally located in the valley.

What makes this house unique

Outside we have large decks with beautiful views, grill, fire-pit, hot tub, and rocking chairs. Local hiking is endless. Public river access is an easy 10-minutes away where you can fish. Great swimming, tubing, canoeing, and kayaking options within 20-30 minutes of the home on the South Fork of the river.

Inside the comfortable, spacious, chalet style home is a fully-stocked, eat-in kitchen, wood-burning stove, piano for your pleasure, and all of the amenities of home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear John,

Thank you for the opportunity to spend three wonderful days at Deer Haven last weekend, Oct 15-17. The property, the scenery and the weather were all a perfect combination for our first-time exploration of the Shenandoah Valley. The fall colors were spectacular and the view from Deer Haven was even more impressive than the VRBO description suggested. The 'scenic drive' on 675 to Luray was enjoyed multiple times.

The house was clean, well-kept, well-supplied and very user-friendly. Everything as advertised.

One comment on our selection of Deer Haven --- we wanted a 'pet free' property and found few such in the area. Please know that we (and probably many others) appreciated that aspect of Deer Haven too.

A great time at a great location!!!

Thank you

Just what we needed

  • 5 of 5
We were looking for a place to retreat from our hectic schedules and civilization and this was the place! It was so quiet we could hear the leaves falling from the trees. There was no one in sight, except for once a day when some man drove his tractor up the road. The view from the deck was magnificient. We chose to stay at the cabin and just read, relax, and be alone. But, there is so much to do in the area if you want to keep busy. We did visit the little town just south of Edinburg and Woodstock the day we left. I was concerned about all the reviews on the steep road. It was a little steep and I did have a little trouble with traction due to the gravel, but, it wasn't all that bad. We have driven up much steeper roads in Pigeon Forge, TN. We loved the signs of encouragement as we drove up the road. The first one assured us that we "were doing fine" and the next one told us that we "were almost there".

Had a wonderful time at Deer Haven. The House was great, clean and comfortable, and the property was beautiful. So peaceful up there away from the rest of humanity. Had a blast sitting at the firepit at night listening to the critters. Being a musician, the piano was an awesome touch. I also saw turkeys, hawks, vultures, snakes, lizards, and a possum! The owners do caution about the rugged driveway, and they mean it, so take your time. Once you are there, you will not want to leave! Great vacation

Peace and Quiet

  • 5 of 5
Deer Haven is more than 5 stars. This was my second visit and it was even better than the first. The location is a beautiful area with only the sounds of nature and millions of stars in the evening. The home is very clean, has a full kitchen, great well water, and excellent WIFI (the WIFI worked on the decks, not just in the house). The booking process is the best around and the welcome package with directions to the house and a map of area is very informative. Although the last 1.5 miles is a gravel road that is steep and curvy at times, a standard car is all that is needed. The home seems to be miles away, yet it is 10-15 minutes to restaurants, grocery stores, hiking, etc. John - that you again for your hospitality.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5
I've been renting houses in the summer around the DC area for the past 25 years and this is by far the nicest one I've ever been to. The photos don't do it justice at all. The house is beautiful; clean and bright with modern bathrooms, super kitchenware, a hot tub and truly the most magnificent view from the front balcony and from the master bedroom. Every morning I woke up with the daylight, made coffee and sat on the balcony listening to music from my iPod (on the Jam Box provided in the house) and waited for everyone else to get up. In the evening we were all together in the same place watching the sun set. That was just perfect.
We had planned on going fishing and exploring Edinburg but unwinding at the house and doing a bit of hiking ended up being everyone's favorite things to do. We found a restaurant in Woodstock that was showing the World Cup game so we didn't miss the USA game and we also went to the Shenandoah Caverns which was quite fun.
So of course I've already passed information on the house to friends and we will be visiting again next year.

A Terrific Venue for Vacation

  • 5 of 5
We recently spent 2 1/2 wonderful days at Deer Haven. Because we were there on a quick trip to check out a local winery as a site for a family wedding in October, we didn't have much time to hike or explore the forests and parks. That being said, we had a terrific time relaxing at the house and could not have found accommodations any more perfect. Deer Haven is privately situated in the woods, immaculate, well-stocked, and nicely decorated. The 3 bathrooms look new, and the kitchen has all of the modern appliances one could ask for. The decks are a real plus for entertaining, and the a/c was great because it was hot and humid during our stay. In essence, Deer Haven allowed us to enjoy a wilderness environment without any of the inconveniences of "roughing it." Who could ask for more? We especially appreciated the welcome packet that was emailed to us prior to arrival. It had all the information we would need, including emergency numbers. Thus, when we lost power one night during an electrical storm, we were able to call the right place immediately. Moreover, the pantry was stocked with battery operated lanterns (and extra batteries!), so we managed quite well until the power came back on. We loved Deer Haven so much that we have booked a week's stay in October and can't wait to see the area in the fall. I hope it will be the first of many vacations there. If there is a downside to the property at all, it is the driveway, which took a bit of getting used to. It is steep and unpaved, and I'm not sure I'd want to negotiate it in the dark. In fairness, though, the owners do a good job of preparing renters in advance, so I knew what to expect, and my Camry was certainly adequate to the task. In October, though, I think we'll bring the SUV just in case bad weather makes the driveway more tricky to navigate. We have stayed in many VRBO rentals over the years; Deer Haven ranks as one of the top one or two. It's a real find in every respect!

Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5
We recently stayed at Deer Haven for a long weekend with our very good friends and had a wonderful time! John was so warm and easy to work with, responding to our every question promptly, and pro-actively making back up arrangements in case of rain to be sure we could get up the mountain road. Thankfully, the weather was superb and we were able to enjoy all the amenities of this lovely, comfortable, secluded home. It's everything it says it is and much more and we look forward to a return visit!
