Overview

Woodstock House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + 3 Baths, Sleeps 6

Situated in the heart of the historic Shenandoah Valley, Deer Haven offers easy access to unparalleled views of the valley on twenty secluded acres backing up to the National Forest.

Deer Haven is only 100 miles to Washington, DC, thirty minutes to Shenandoah National Park, Bryce and Massanutten Ski resorts, and the spectacular Luray Caverns, and just minutes away from numerous Civil War battlefields, wineries, the Shenandoah River, and National Forest hiking trails.

The home has a fully-stocked, eat-in kitchen, two baths, and large decks with a grill, fire-pit, and hot tub for relaxing. Two bedrooms are on the second floor - the master bedroom boasts a wall of windows overlooking the Shenandoah Valley and River. The private third bedroom suite is on the ground floor with its own bathroom, sitting room, wet bar, and great views. The living area contains a wood burning stove, comfortable seating, and plenty of games, movies, and books to snuggle up with.

The towns of Edinburg and Woodstock offer great shopping, dining, antiques, coffee shops and art galleries.

If you are looking for a convenient getaway that offers endless views and tranquility, Deer Haven is the place for you.

**NOTE FOR WINTER GUESTS:

We do occasionally get snow in the area. The road up to the cabin is steep in some sections. We will do our best to have the road plowed in the event it does snow however, if the road has packed snow or ice, it will be very difficult to manage without four-wheel or all-wheel drive.

We will work with guests in the event of inclement weather to see that they can reach and enjoy the cabin. That said, guests should monitor the weather and plan on taking a four wheel or all wheel drive vehicle during the winter months in the event there is snow or ice. If the road is impassible by four-wheel vehicle, we will honor a partial or full refund depending on the circumstances.

About John Favazzo

Friends John, Matt, and Mark traveled the world together before realizing the beautiful Shenandoah Valley was in their back yard. The thought of enjoying a cup of coffee or reading a book on Deer Haven's porches overlooking the valley was too inviting to resist. They decided to purchase Deer Haven together as a convenient weekend getaway from the grind of the city. Now they are opening their home to visitors to share the delightful views and tranquility of Deer Haven.

John Favazzo purchased this house in 2011

Why John Favazzo chose Woodstock

The owners chose the Edinburgh area primarily because of its charm, natural beauty and easy access to Washington, DC (just 100 miles). Only 20 miles from Bryce and 30 miles from Massanutten, Luray, and Front Royal, Deer Haven is truly centrally located in the valley.

What makes this house unique

Outside we have large decks with beautiful views, grill, fire-pit, hot tub, and rocking chairs. Local hiking is endless. Public river access is an easy 10-minutes away where you can fish. Great swimming, tubing, canoeing, and kayaking options within 20-30 minutes of the home on the South Fork of the river.

Inside the comfortable, spacious, chalet style home is a fully-stocked, eat-in kitchen, wood-burning stove, piano for your pleasure, and all of the amenities of home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear John,

Thank you for the opportunity to spend three wonderful days at Deer Haven last weekend, Oct 15-17. The property, the scenery and the weather were all a perfect combination for our first-time exploration of the Shenandoah Valley. The fall colors were spectacular and the view from Deer Haven was even more impressive than the VRBO description suggested. The 'scenic drive' on 675 to Luray was enjoyed multiple times.

The house was clean, well-kept, well-supplied and very user-friendly. Everything as advertised.

One comment on our selection of Deer Haven --- we wanted a 'pet free' property and found few such in the area. Please know that we (and probably many others) appreciated that aspect of Deer Haven too.

A great time at a great location!!!

Thank you

Return Visit and Just as Pleased as the First Time

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I stayed at Deer Haven for our anniversary Dec 19th-22nd, 2014. This was a return visit for us as we stayed there under the previous owners in Dec 2009. It is as peaceful and romantic this time as it was then. Though we did miss the 22 inches of snow we got in 2009! The new master bedroom suite down stairs is nice. The hot tub was wonderful under the stars. It is nice to actually see the Milky Way. Be sure and check out the book "The Blue Ridge Range: The Gentle Mountains"--A great book about the mountains. We recommend Deer Haven and hopefully it will not be 5 years before we make it back again.

Beautiful Mountain Retreat

  • 5 of 5
John was extremely honest, responsive and helpful as we made our reservation at the last moment when the place we had rented had a water explosion or something. When it looked like a large snowfall was headed for Deerhaven, he gave us an opportunity to get out with full refund if we didn't have a 4 wheel drive to navigate the driveway. We decided to go a day early and get snowed in if need be. It was truly magical to be on the mountain watching the world turn wonderfully white from a toasty hot tub in great working condition. Our kids came the next day and parked VERY FAR from the house and couldn't traverse even the road that leads to the steep driveway. The power went off for several hours but we went for hikes, had a fire, found lanterns, and played boardgames until it came on again around 10 at night. We were so excited that we'd be able to cook Thanksgiving dinner as we had been devising ways to cook the turkey on the charcoal grill. It would be good to have something that isn't electric - the stove or hot water heater, but it didn't impact us much. The views from the deck and the bedroom are phenomenal. However the basement had been newly renovated into it's own suite and my husband and I stayed down there. Lovely but a bit chilly as the heat doesn't pump down there very well. We didn't actually spend much time there but I can imagine spring and summer would be absolutely terrific at this cabin. In fact, it would be lovely for 2 families to share with the separate space when one family wants some chill time. During Thanksgiving week people are hunting but we still ventured a bit around and it's beautiful, so walking and hiking in the area or to the river would be great. The kitchen is well stocked, lots of good games and some fun books. I especially enjoyed reading about weird hikes. Autumn would be ideal as there is such a nice panoramic view.

Wonderful Weekend Away

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time in this lovely house. I recommend arriving in the day time to navigate the long windy road up the mountain, and the drive is worth it. You are very secluded and there is a great view. No complaints! Highly recommend.

Stunning views, secluded cabin

  • 5 of 5
Our stay in Deer Haven could not have been more perfect. We loved being in such a remote spot away from all traffic noises (we live outside of DC), with only the stars and wilderness to keep us company at night. The views of the valley below made for incredible sunrises and sunsets! The area is perfect if you're into hiking, too, which we are. This time of year the trails were not crowded at all and the leaves were still turning at lower elevations. Check out Kennedy's Peak, Tibbet Knob or Big Schloss which are only 20-ish minutes away from the cabin and have gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains! Soaking in the hot tub after a day of hiking was one of the highlights of the trip. We'll be back!
