True cabin built in 1960 with solid wood flooring and walls . . . Spectacular views of the mountains, Sierra Blanca in particular from high level deck . . . Original decor but outfitted with 21st century conveniences: Flat screen TV, dish network, all kitchen and bath amenities. Ceiling fans in every room; baseboard heat and wood burning stove for winter months. Totally isolated, gravel road entrance--yet 5 minutes from downtown Village of Ruidoso, 10 minutes from 3 casinos and racetrack.
Golf/Skiing/WiFi: Sandy's Place is within 10 minutes of three championship golf courses (Inn of the Mt. Gods, The Links at Sierra Blanca, Cree Meadows) and 30 minutes from Ski Apache resort, which is open from Thanksgiving through March. There is no WIFI on site, but a lovely free internet cafe one mile down the hill.
Cool! and wildlife: Cabin is set at 7500 feet, which averages about 8 degrees cooler in the summer from downtown, and 15 degrees cooler than the El Paso/Albuquerque/Lubbock southwest! Visitors from the Dallas or Houston area will notice that while Sandy's Place is in the mountains, it still carries LOW humidity.
Deer, elk, wild turkeys, raccoons daily visitors--most female deer will eat deer corn out of your hand!
Access: Sandy's Place is easily accessed from US 70 through downtown Ruidoso, New Mexico--yet retains it's quiet charm off a gravel access road that accommodates two full-time residences and this home. Easy accessibility in spring, summer, and fall by any vehicle: winter months might require 4-wheel drive depending on conditions.

For our family of four we found the cabin to be clean and cozy during our Spring Break stay. We all slept comfortably and utilized the role away bed as well. The house was stocked with all the necessities. The only items we brought were food which we picked up at the local Walmart. The full kitchen allowed us to make our own meals and and save money for other activities. The view of Sierra Blanca was awesome from the porch. All the main attractions including Ski Apache, which we visited, were well within ease of driving. If staying in a hotel with no elbow room isn't your thing, definitely give this place a try. We definitely would stay here again.
My wife and I had a great weekend here. We showed up 30 minutes before check-in and the cleaning crew was just wrapping up. When we stepped in the cabin it was neat and clean and up to our expectations. The porch out back has plenty of seating and an excellent view of Sierra Blanca. Throughout the weekend we spent time in Ruidoso shopping(5 minutes away), hiking around Sierra Blanca(40 minutes away), and checked out the Inn of the Mountain of the Gods casino and restaurant(15 minutes away). We even woke up to 2 inches of snow on Sunday morning! All in all a great cabin in a great location.
Although none of these things would prevent me from staying here again I feel they are worth noting. There is no fenced in area if you bring your dog and there was a loose dog at the cabin each morning. The master bed was a little uncomfortable and there was not an exhaust fan in the bathroom. Other than those few small things perfect. We fully intend to stay here again.
We wanted a comfortable, relaxing getaway, and that is exactly what we got! The cabin was clean and well-furnished, with lots of personal touches. We were a bit concerned when the weather turned suddenly colder just before our trip, but despite temperatures in the mid teens (not counting wind chill!) we were quite comfortable in the cabin. The living room maintained a satisfactory temperature, and the bedrooms were even warmer! Beds were very comfy and had plenty of blankets, quilts, and pillows. The kitchen had everything needed for cooking, but I often chose to be lazy and enjoy the local eateries (Hall of Flame has great burgers)!
We enjoyed the cabin's beautiful view, especially while it was snowing. We were fortunate enough to be visited by a small (10!) herd of deer one afternoon--they came quite close to the cabin and were not frightened away by our picture taking and conversation.
Our only caveat--in the winter, take the snow tires/chains advisory seriously. The paved roads were clear, but the gravel drive was not. Getting up the hill was difficult the first night.
All in all, an excellent stay in an excellent cabin! We will be recommending this property to our friends wanting to vacation in Ruidoso. We're looking forward to returning next year ourselves in warmer weather!
Beautiful view and scenery from the cabin. Weather was perfect. Wildlife abounds. Location is perfect.
mother nature was not polite. a hot may week. ac unit might as well not been there, the vinyl furniture sweated terribly. couldn't get the gas grill to work. was not secluded. view was nice. we rented for a week, stayed two nights and left. if a refund is available it would smooth it over a little, it was a eight hour drive.
My husband and I just returned from our stay at Sandy's Place. We found it to be everything just like it was described to us and better. Every room was very clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Sitting on the deck in the quiet, cool mornings, drinking our coffee and enjoying the deer and turkey that came to visit made such a nice break from our hot, dry Texas weather. We will definitely stay here again when we get to return to Ruidoso.
