Our family of six, 2 adults and 4 children ages 13, 11, and two 8 year olds spent a wonderful week at Jolly Mon in April 2015. This was our second visit to Eleuthera. The house was really special -- the setting is perfect, the house is literally perched on top of a great beach with amazing views all around. Jolly Mon is built to a very high-standard and is extremely comfortable. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious, beautifully decorated and well equipped, lots of storage space for luggage etc.. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need.
We went in April and were able to have the doors and windows open all day and night - it was very relaxing and we slept extremely well, waking to the sound of the ocean waves and the breeze blowing through the palm trees. With four kids, the fact that we could just walk down 40 steps to the beach and swim at different intervals in the day was a great advantage - no getting four kids into the car with snorkeling gear, towels, etc! Of course the kids loved the outdoor showers! The kayaks really added to our enjoyment on the beach and there is nice snorkeling on the adjacent reefs. We hardly met anyone on the beach while we were there. We did a couple of excursions with Fishbone Tours which I would highly recommend -- Julius and Robin went out of their way to show us a good time. The children loved the tour as well as the fishing. We had two good dinners at Tippy's and got pizza from Mate & Jenny's. We loved French Leave beach and had a good lunch at the Beach House restaurant. I took Jane's advice and brought a cooler of meats in my luggage which was great to have for the nights at home. We also grilled fresh fish caught on our fishing on the grill. The property is extremely well organized, clean and well maintained. Thanks so much to the caretaker Del for checking in us regularly and to the woman who came to clean the house not eh last day. Both were so polite and helpful to us, very welcoming. Thanks also to Jane for providing lots of great information before we travelled and for her flexibility. We hoe to return to Jolly Mon one day....
My husband and I visited Eleuthera in Dec. 2012 for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We fell in love with the island and this beautiful home. We returned this summer for 11 days with our 5 boys (ages 26, 23, 20, 16, 13) All I can say is that I am already planning my return visit and hoping to stay longer next time. Jane and Scott are fantastic hosts. From the very beginning of your trip they go out of their way to answer every question and make sure you have a very magical adventure. The home is more beautiful than the pictures portray. After exploring several beaches on the island our family decided that the beach right outside our home was the best beach on the island and why would you want to go anywhere else. We participated in the Fishbone Tour with Capatian Bubba and I highly recommend it. My boys had a blast and Julius and his wife Robin go out of their way to make your tour great. We purchased freshly caught fish and lobster from Tarpum Bay and Governor's Harbor and enjoyed making our own seafood feast. Visit Island Farm and you can purchase fresh vegetables at a reasonable price. We brought a cooler of meats and cheeses from the states with us and saved a lot of money. We also packed our suitcases with lots of dry products. It was nice to arrive to the home late in the day and have all of our food with us. We enjoyed Tippy's and Front Porch but decided that there was nothing better than eating the fresh fish caught just hours before we cooked it. We enjoyed snorkling, kayaking, exploring and just being together on the most pristine beaches in the world. I agree that a visit to Glass Window Bridge is worth the drive. My boys wanted to jump off the cliffs to but of course mom and dads wisdom prevailed. I also want to give a shout out to Del and Sandy who maintain the property. They are fantastic. We had a few problems with the internet and since I run a business and so does my son it was imperative that we have interent access each day. Del went out of his way to bring us a friends modem very quickly. Thank you again Scott and Jane for sharing your beautiful home with our family. We look forward to many more visits on this magical island.
Our family of 6, including our 4 young adult children, stayed for a week in this amazing property. The layout of the house was perfect for us- the loft for our daughters, the studio for our sons & the master bedroom on the main floor for us. The house provided privacy and solitude when needed, as well as a wonderful place to gather in the family room or on the veranda, to be together. Our kids enjoyed the many electronic amenities, such as the wifi, an ipod with a fun selection of music, great speakers systems, laptop, and flat screen tv.
However, the main show here is the "unreal" gorgeous views from every room and the breath-takingly beautiful beach just beyond the house! I couldn't take my eyes off of it. The beach is just a short couple flights of stairs down from the backyard. Even the backyard is a pleasant sight, filled with green palms laden with coconuts, vegetation that attracts tons of beautiful butterflies, lizards, some unique, large Island birds. We snorkled the reefs on this beach often seeing an assortment of fish, a barracuda or two & a large sea turtle. We saw Brain Coral, Mustard Coral, and others.
Though we had a long list of things we wanted to see and do on the Island, we had a very hard time parting from this very special place, which we incidentally began to call "home." We did visit the Glass Bridge Window- a highlight of our trip, It's fun to climb the cliffs and see the different views of this magestic site. This spot is a photographers' dream. A couple of our kids wanted to jump off the cliff, which we estimated to be about 60-70 feet, but because the water on the Atlantic side was rough, they didn't get to. Whew!
We also visited Harbor Island and rented a golf cart to get around. We quickly saw the town and then swam in the beautiful water there which was the most unreal hue of blue water we have ever seen. We still preferred the waters at the Jolly Mon! We ate there at Dunmore Estates Restaurant for lunch. They serve delicious hamburgers and fries, which our guys were super pumped about because they had had their fill of grouper, conch and bland pizzas.
Our favorite eats: Tippy's, The Beach House, Da Perk, & the Friday Night Fish Fry in GH.
We visited Ten Bay Beach which was super for beachcombing! Sand dollars are abundant.
Many of our friends, seeing our pictures, now want to visit the Island (& The Jolly Mon) themselves! We can confidently recommend it and the Snyders, who are great to work with.
My husband and I just got back from a week at Jolly Mon. Weather was perfect, beach was gorgeous, and the house was fabulous. Jolly Mon was clean, stylish, with comfortable bed, quality linens and a very well equipped kitchen. A great experience. Thanks Jane!
We couldn't have been happier with our stay at Jolly Mon. It's a beautiful new home with comfortable stylish furniture and a cook's dream kitchen. The views from almost every point in the house are amazing and the beach will take your breath away. Jane was great to deal with and the island of Eleuthera and it's people are amazing.
I don't know how they could afford to rent this property for so few dollars, but they did and we loved our stay at Jolly Mon. I wish my home had just a few of the high end amenities that they put into this house. The home has really nice tile work through out. The appliances are all top quality. They provide an iPod with a great selection of music and we loved the house wide sound system. The movie library was rather lite, so bring your own movies.
They provided beach chairs, umbrella's snorkel gear. We spent one afternoon in the hammock, which was very relaxing. They have a land line for local calls, which came in handy. The ocean water looks exactly like the picture. The beach sand is amazing.
When the wind is down, look out of for the no-seem biting bugs. My wife must have sweet blood, because she got bite up bad, while I got very few bites. Bring itch cream. You might also want to bring your favorite spices, because they only supply salt and pepper.
The home was very clean and in great condition. We would love to stay there again in the future.
By the way, I want to thank Stanton Cooper, who rented us our car, Stanton Cooper (Governors Harbour): 242-359-7007
He was amazing, when we locked our keys in the car. Sorry for putting you thru that trouble Stanton. I would rent from him again in a minute.
Built directly on the Atlantic beach, about a quarter of a mile south of Unique Village on North Shore Drive (Locally known as Old Banks Road) in N. Palmetto Point.
