Be surrounded by peace and tranquility and enjoy a little piece of heaven as you enter the property nestled on 7 wooded acres in Saluda on top of Mt. Vista. You will feel as though you may be in the Italian countryside with the tan stucco, French tile roof, and granite stone walls of the main house built in 1897. We have many outdoor entertaining areas, a circular fire pit for roasting hot dogs & marshmallows, and a covered stone tea house overlooking our blueberry orchard, with an outdoor wood oven for baking pizza & bread.
Stone Hedge cottage was build of granite stone in the early 1900's. It has been fully renovated to include a travertine tiled bath with walk-in shower and full kitchen. A great retreat for a romantic getaway for 2!
We recently stayed in the cottage so we could attend a BBQ festival in Tryon. We were not altogether happy with our stay. We should have just booked a hotel instead.
The cottage is charming however we had the following issues: dead crickets in the bathroom under the towels, live ants in the kitchen (quite a few of them in fact), not enough toilet paper - so the owner sent us over to another rental to get more for ourselves, the bed squeaks quite loud when you sit on it or get in it (needs a new mattress), not enough hot water for 2 people to shower. We called the owner regarding the lack of hot water and she sent someone over that afternoon to check it however when we returned that evening and both of us showered - again the 2nd person to shower ran out of hot water. The owner explained to me on the phone that it is a very small water heater and she has never had anyone complain. Well, we feel it is unrealistic to rent a cottage for two people without the expectation that you can shower one right after the other. Who wants to or has time to wait 45 minutes in between showers to get ready. The owner took a whole $16.00 off our total amount due for a two nights stay. We were not satisfied with our stay and I don't think we were unreasonable in our expectations. Not happy with $16.00 taken off our bill. Perhaps the owner needs to take a shower in cold water (seriously ice cold) and try washing her hair in cold water, then she could understand why a $16.00 credit really didn't make up for our experience in her rental.
Also, anyone renting should know the cottage is right across the gravel driveway to the owner’s house and another rental cottage is right across a small courtyard. I share this so you know that the cottage is not private, you hear all the traffic and voices of all those around you. Also the outdoor entertaining areas are definitely those of the owner (main house) and the rental units have access to them. Again, just stating that it's not private. The way this rental is described is deceiving.
After getting a last minute offer by the grandparents to take the kiddos for the weekend, a mad dash was made to try and find a romantic place to stay. We were not disappointed! Susan was most helpful in helping us book her lovely cottage!
The stone cottage has to be the most unique dwelling we have ever stayed, hand's down! It was perfect for two people for a weekend. The cottage is located on a large property with lots of areas to enjoy. We utilized both the beautiful fire pit area and the fireplace/oven on the cool evenings. We were able to pick a few blueberries and blackberries from the tiered orchard.
The town of Saluda is a 5 minute drive and has several nice shops and some good restaurants (The Purple Onion, Green River BBQ, Saluda Cafe). We also enjoyed a pleasant time walking/hiking to Pearson Falls.
Would totally return to this property and will definitely share it with friends!
What a wonderful getaway. The stone cottage is a very unique.place to stay. Sleeping inside of the stone walls of the cottage gives you the feeling of really being a part history..You could not ask for any more gracious host than Susan. We plan to go back again this year. Cant wait.
