Invite friends to enjoy a cocktail & some conversation from the screened porch while contemplating the day's activities. There is ample space to hold a garden party too, with convenient backyard access. To keep the cook in the conversation, a gas grill can be wheeled from under the shade tree gathering place to the central outdoor activities.
Overlooking expansive perennial gardens designed using Feng Shui principles & made Chesapeake Bay - friendly through a 'grass to garden' application, you will quickly feel stress melt away & a sense of contentment pervade your senses. The presence of a cottage dragon deems the property as especially protected..
During colder weather, cuddle outside around the wood-burning chimneia & enjoy toasting marshmallows, being 'one' with nature, the stars & the sounds of our bustling maritime city. Vitality is marked by boat horns, cheering voices during Wednesday night regattas & the 'ding ding' of the Spa Creek drawbridge as sailboats pass through to the Chesapeake Bay. If you wake early enough you will hear the 'hut, hut' of the Mid-Shipmen following reville at the Naval Academy.
Enjoying the hospitality of others while traveling around the world & also former owner of the Philadelphia Bed & Breakfast Reservation Service, the owner has a passion for welcoming guests to Eastport & Annapolis. Her knowledge of Maryland's Capital City makes you feel at home immediately.
The cottage decor includes an eclectic collection of primitive furniture, unique collectibles & garden art that represent her love of cultures & their peoples.
Tucked under the cozy eaves, the 2nd floor, private romantic escape is fit for any Master. Wiggle your toes on the hand-hooked rug & float like a cloud on the down duvet. Rock away your stress & view the moon & stars through the skylight & enjoy the breeze from the gable window dreaming your dreamiest dreams. Hanging on the living room wall is a hand-embroidered vintage sampler with the quotation of 'Let me live by the side of the road & be a friend to man.'
The sampler depicts my love of hosting travelers. As the former owner of the Philadelphia B&B Reservation Service & co-author of The American Bed & Breakfast Cookbook, welcoming visitors is a real pleasure for me & simply the core of my being. I love to travel & enjoy making travel easy & fun for others.
Living in this dynamic City by the Chesapeake Bay is refreshing & invigorating.
The cottage has good bones & peaceful land. It is named 'Chi Rising,' which describes its positive energy, welcoming presence & solid, grounded feeling.
Renovating Chi Rising inside & out presented the challenge of removing old materials & updating applications of paint, flooring & comfort amenities like ceiling fans & additional lighting. When removing two old flooring layers in the kitchen, I was rewarded with the pleasant surprise of 12' knotty pine plank floor boards, that add authentic charm to the cottage.
The screened 3-season porch seats 10 for dinner. You can relax there & take a nap too, all while you become one with the beautiful gardens.
Practicing 'green' while establishing perennial theme gardens with year-round seasonal color, texture & plants native to Maryland was a joy. Feng Shui principles & a 'grass to garden' design concept created harmony & a garden certified as 'Bay-Friendly' by the Maryland Cooperative Extension Office & as a National Wildlife Federation refuge.
In the secluded backyard garden you can read a book, play bocce ball or contemplate your next adventure around town. There is room to practice yoga, toss a Nerf ball, & entertain friends & family. Oh & we're a short 10 minute walk to restaurant row & USNA & a 15 minute car ride to a vast sandy beach on the Chesapeake Bay!
Visit & use all the spaces at Chi Rising. It is your home while you are here. Enjoy Eastport, downtown Annapolis & all that awaits.
