A love of hosting guests begins with making your arrival easy. Off-load your belongings from the off-street gated parking area onto the screened porch. Then grab a beverage & unpack at your leisure.

Gourmet food, round tables with linen table cloths, flowers & music can all be arranged for you if you like. Stretch, play bocce ball or croquet, practice your golf swing & roast marshmallows- there are ample outdoor activities provided & plenty of room for kids of all ages.

Be cozy, casual & comfortable in this charming 50s vintage cottage built to accommodate the Army families then stationed at Camp Parole. Lovingly restored over a decade, featured are plantation shutters, oak floors, wainscoting & updated appliances within the Sears & Roebuck saltbox-style design.

The vintage 70s kitchen is conveniently located to the screened Summer porch via the blue stone path or through the adjoining den. The high-top cafe table is an inviting place to sit & chat. In winter months, the porch is enclosed to create a sauna-like experience on sunny days.

The cottage has two flatscreen televisions with an ultimate FIOS package to help keep everyone informed & entertained. There are DVD players as well.

Invite friends to enjoy a cocktail & some conversation from the screened porch while contemplating the day's activities. There is ample space to hold a garden party too, with convenient backyard access. To keep the cook in the conversation, a gas grill can be wheeled from under the shade tree gathering place to the central outdoor activities.

Overlooking expansive perennial gardens designed using Feng Shui principles and made Chesapeake Bay - friendly through a 'grass to garden' application, you will quickly feel stress melt away & a sense of contentment pervade your senses. The presence of a cottage dragon deems the property as special.

During colder weather, cuddle outside around the wood-burning chimneia & enjoy toasting marshmallows, being 'one' with nature, the stars & the sounds of our bustling maritime city. Vitality is marked by boat horns, cheering voices during Wednesday night regattas & the 'ding ding' of the Spa Creek drawbridge as sailboats pass through to the Chesapeake Bay. If you wake early enough you will hear the 'hut, hut' of the Mid-Shipmen following reville at the Naval Academy.

Chat it up while sitting around the wood-burning chimnenea--a great place to enjoy a cup of java, an icy beverage & to gaze at the moon & stars.

Enjoying the hospitality of others while traveling around the world & also former owner of the Philadelphia Bed & Breakfast Reservation Service, the owner has a passion for welcoming guests to Eastport & Annapolis. Her knowledge of Maryland's Capital City makes you feel at home immediately. The cottage decor includes an eclectic collection of primitive furniture, unique collectibles & garden art that represent her love of cultures & their peoples.

Tucked under the cozy eaves, the 2nd floor, private romantic escape is fit for any Master. Wiggle your toes on the hand-hooked rug & float like a cloud on the down duvet. Rock away your stress & view the moon & stars through the skylight & enjoy the breeze from the gable window dreaming your dreamiest dreams. There is a flatscreen television, dressing room with ample closet space & adjoining makeup nook, too.

From the first floor den, a serene view of the perennial gardens can be seen relaxing from the plush queen-size Futon . The den transforms from a cozy sleeping area to a daytime activity space. A library is housed in the green milk-paint primitive book case, purchased in Utah at Robert Redford's Sundance Music Festival. Cuddle up with a good book or watch a DVD, listen to music or enjoy FIOS HD on a flatscreen TV!

Two new comfortable Ottoman rollaway beds are avail for sleeping in the 1st floor study or on the screened 3-season porch when weather permits. Plush mattress toppers and cotton linens make these beds cozy and comfortable.

Hanging on the living room wall is a hand-embroidered vintage sampler with the quotation of 'Let me live by the side of the road & be a friend to man.'

The sampler depicts my love of hosting travelers. As the former owner of the Philadelphia B&B Reservation Service & co-author of The American Bed & Breakfast Cookbook, welcoming visitors is a real pleasure for me & simply the core of my being. I love to travel & enjoy making travel easy & fun for others.

Living in this dynamic City by the Chesapeake Bay is refreshing & invigorating.

The cottage has good bones & peaceful land. It is named 'Chi Rising,' which describes its positive energy, welcoming presence & solid, grounded feeling.

Renovating Chi Rising inside & out presented the challenge of removing old materials & updating applications of paint, flooring & comfort amenities like ceiling fans & additional lighting. When removing 2 old flooring layers in the kitchen, I was rewarded with the pleasant surprise of 12' knotty pine plank floor boards, that add authentic charm to the cottage.

The screened 3-season porch seats 10 for dinner. You can relax there & take a nap too, all while you become one with the beautiful gardens.

Practicing 'green' while establishing perennial theme gardens with year-round seasonal color, texture & plants native to Maryland was a joy. Feng Shui principles & a 'grass to garden' design concept created harmony. The garden is certified as 'Bay-Friendly' by the Maryland Cooperative Extension Office & a National Wildlife Federation refuge.

In the secluded backyard garden you can read a book, play bocce ball or contemplate your next adventure around town. There is room to practice yoga, toss a Nerf ball, & entertain friends & family. Oh, & we're a short 10 minute walk to downtown & a 15 minute car ride to a vast sandy beach on the Chesapeake Bay!

Visit & use all the spaces at Chi Rising. It is your home while you are here. Enjoy Eastport, downtown Annapolis & all that awaits.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2001

Living in the heart of Eastport provides a stimulating lifestyle of cultural neighborhoods, bustling business enterprises and creative artisans and entrepreneurs. One word sums it up -- Location! All you need is within walking distance.

The vibe of life's excitement abounds in Maryland's Capital City! Enriched by the U.S. Naval Academy, St. John's College, several sailing schools, museums, artisan dens and diverse restaurants & pubs. Visit us and experience our spirit, our passion and all we have to offer here on the Chesapeake Bay!

This is a great gathering place for friends. And, we love dogs!

Enjoy a cup of joe, host a graduation or wedding celebration or have a dinner party on the screened porch while watching cardinals, robins and squirrels going about their daily rituals of bathing and eating. Quite enjoyable.

The screened Summer porch beckons an afternoon nap & evokes memories & dreams of Key West. There is a blender available to whiz up your favorite concoction to help you hang on, too. And, there is seating for 10 for dinner!

The cottage is partially handicapped accessible via two steps to the ground floor level with bedrooms, bath and common living spaces. Entering is private and convenient from the back off-street driveway.

A calm oasis within walking distance to action

My husband and I spent a week in Annapolis and were glad to have chosen Chi Rising as our rental property. Yarrow is generous with staples and amenities and welcomes tenants into a space that offers beauty and comfort, quiet relaxation and a place to spread out in many ways. The screened-in back porch soon became our favorite place to read, relax, study brochures and maps, and to eat our meals as the song birds serenaded us or splashed in the bird bath. We walked to excellent Eastport restaurants. The drawbridge leading into historic Annapolis is an enjoyable short walk away. We appreciated being able to leave the car in off-street parking at Chi Rising and avoid traffic and parking concerns. Thank you, Yarrow, for offering so much to us during our stay.
Owner's Response: Holidays, reunions, games and family vacations in Annapolis area? Stow your keys! We have you covered here at the cottage. You can walk or call Chariots of Annapolis, EZ Cruiser or the Water Taxi to get you around Eastport or the Historic District and out West Street to the Arts & Entertainment District and USNA Stadium.
Now is that fun or what? Of course, you can drive and park in any of the City parking garages, too. Have it your way AND create a great day for yourself! We just want you to have fun while you are staying here at the cottage.

My family rented this property for USNA graduation week 2013 and were all very pleased with the rental. The owner was wonderful to work with and was very helpful before and during our stay. The cottage is very clean and well maintained and we would highly recommend this property.

Owner's Response: Families enjoy the numerous "break-away" conversation areas this cottage provides. Tucked next to the screened porch are Adirondack chairs nestled between the Cherokee Red Dogwood tree and River Birch where private conversations can be held. On the covered front porch the wrought iron settee seats two and is a safe port in any storm. Adjacent is a gathering of chairs with a vintage milk crate serving as a table in the new "grass-to-garden" yard - an ideal location to welcome the East sunrise energy with your morning coffee, or to take in the colors of the perennial blooms in the afternoon. And better yet...get yourself a front row seat here for an unobstructed view of the moon. On a clear night it is a great spot to set up your telescope.
Even the grill master has a secluded area to entertain conversations while cooking in the back yard. And, the grill will roll to any conversation spot so the cook is included in all that is going on.
You may want to chat while sitting around the outdoor fire that is fun for fall, winter and spring activities. Best of all, the outdoor furniture easily moves with the sun or the moon so you can enjoy quiet conversations and Mother Nature at the same time.
Conversations inside can occur while nestled in the rich leather furniture or cuddling in the down pillows on the antique wicker sofa.
Of course, the 2nd floor Master bedroom is quite a romantic retreat with good reading lamps and lounge chairs with ottomans where you can truly relax and plan your vacation.
Whatever your mood, you can create a conversation nook anywhere you like. In its 50 years of existence, the cottage has provided a cozy, charming and versatile environment for many families, making it an ideal getaway destination, a quiet private retreat and a home-away-from-home where you can entertain your friends--all in one convenient location.
We hope you can enjoy it as much as this USNA family and many others have!

Great summer vacation at Chi Rising

Hi yarrow,
Our stay at Chi Rising was fabulous! Such a quaint and charming cottage made our stay really great.
In particular the lovely master suite is much like our own back home. As frequent visitors of East Port and Annapolis , Md. our stay was never with out things to do. Yarrow you may want to put treads on the second floor stair case as my wife has had a hip replacement a few months ago, I had to help her up and down the steps ! Again an overall great experience. Thank you !

Owner's Response: Vacations! Home is where the heart is and at Chi Rising we aim to make your stay as fun as possible. Families especially enjoy the festive holiday events that Annapolis provides, too. The events are very "family friendly." From Lighted Boat parade the beginning of December right through Christmas week and of course being "on the scene" for the City's fabulous New Year's Eve fireworks! What a way to celebrate.
Annapolis is a beautiful city during December -- oh, yes and we have Midnight Madness on Thursdays for evenings of shopping and getting into the holiday spirit.
P.S. The July 4th fireworks are awesome too. Watch from Spa Creek drawbridge as colors burst over the harbor with the U.S. Naval Academy as the backdrop. Stay at the cottage and come join in the fun!

Very cozy cottage with peaceful grounds. Well furnished with all necessities. One note of caution: We were two couples traveling together and the second bedroom was really the TV room with a futon. This did not provide much privacy as you have to pass through this room to go outside. This is fine for a family with children but not for two couples. All in all our stay was very enjoyable and very handy to downtown Annapolis. The owner went out of her way to make us feel at home.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Pet-friendly, Sightseeing, Families with Young Children
Owner's Response: This vintage cottage provides remarkable privacy both inside and out. To access the screened porch and gardens from inside the cottage, there are two exits. So as not to disturb guests who may be occupying the first-floor den guest room, other guests can use the side kitchen door or the front door and walk around the flagstone path through the gardens to enjoy the screened porch.
Guests who occupy the futon in the den bedroom can close the doors and tuck in cozy. They do have a special entrance and can step right onto the screened porch from their guest room.
During the day, the den guest room converts to an enjoyable room for family and friends to gather and watch their favorite shows on the flat-screen TV.

The Cottage is extremely comfortable and Yarrow could not be a more accommodating hostess: From a small basket of welcome goodies to a house full of most everything you could need or want, this cottage is stocked. The gardens are exceptionally beautiful and well-maintained and were a welcome respite. There are a number of excellent restaurants within a half-mile and tons more if you go the mile to Annapolis. A very restful and welcome stay.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Pet-friendly, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway
Owner's Response: If your plans when visiting Annapolis are action-packed, this cottage is the perfect respite for catching a break in between activities.
When the sky opens up and provides precipitation that is most-likely needed here in Annapolis, travelers are thankful for the screened porch where they can continue their festivities despite the rain.
So rain or shine, we have you covered to promote a great time.
