My name is Gregg McArthur and I am the President of McArthur Towel and Sports out of Baraboo Wisconsin,
The property on English Lake has been in our family since 1972 and after some debate we decided to demolish the old family cabin and build our new custom log home. We enjoy sharing the property with responsible indviduals and families that enjoy a backwoods retreat.
We personally enjoy Snowmobiling , ATV rides, hunting, fishing and regular trips out to the many northwoods establishments in the area. Great people and great fun.
We look forward to hearing from you and don't forget to sign the guest book before you leave.

Hi Gregg, We JUST arrived home to Fl. from your cabin. We left a few days early to tend to some matters at home before returning to work. Thank you so much for everything. It was a wonderful home away from home. All went well and we found ourselves on some enjoyable golf courses (really liked Apostle Highlands in Bayfield) and found some great restaurants. We did not use the upstairs at all. We confined our dogs to the screened porch or if in family room they were contained in their playpen. They loved the yard too. We would like to be up there next year as well so we will keep looking at our schedules together. We cleaned everything up and restored it to the way we entered. Rich Becker was very kind to us. Randy and Rich shared some Viet Nam history as they had been in some common areas. Randy was a helicopter gunship pilot. Rich provided us with home made maple syrup and a meal of crappie fillets. You have everything so easy to make it a turn key experience. Most times we ate out after we finished golfing. We went to a couple of Casinos and certainly did not make any $. Looking forward to keeping in contact for next year. We did not wait for security check as it is fine to just send it in the mail. I am sure Rich got the deck sealed as we told him we were departing a little early. Many, many thanks for sharing you beautiful cabin with us. Warm Regards, Sandy
This was the most memorable vacation for my girls this summer ( and it competed with their first European 2-week trip as well). We brought our small boat to do some tubbing as well as some great fishing. The girls loved the beach and the lake. The grounds are immaculate and the setting is spectacular. The cabin is as described and so much more. Comfortable, spacious, clean and cozy. The grounds keeper, Richard, was very helpful and courteous. This property is a hidden gem in the woods so please handle with care 'cause we're coming back.
In celebration of the 50th wedding anniversary of my parents, my brother and I (and our spouses) reserved three days at this beautiful cabin on the edge of English Lake. The photos looked so amazing, yet they truly don't do it justice! We enjoyed the hiking (especially at nearby Copper Falls State Park), the fishing, canoeing, and just relaxing on the deck chatting, reading, and basking in the sun. This cabin is very comfortable, welcoming, and had everything we needed (my dad really admired the excellent workmanship of the cabin construction). Rich, the caretaker, was very helpful, friendly, and has a great sense of humor. Gregg, the owner, was also really friendly and easy to work with. Our visit was perfect-- the entire family had a great time. I highly recommend this cabin!
Thank, you Gregg
The Cabin is spectacular, very warm, clean and comfortable. We truly enjoyed our stay and the stunning nature out there.
Looking forward to come back in a summer time.
Anton & friends.
The view is breathtaking! No matter where you are in the house or yard or lake....absolutely breathtaking lake and mountain views!!! Kitchen well stocked. Gas fireplace. Heated floors. Love the campfire on the lake!!!!! Fishing gear. Cell phone was good by the booster. Clean clear lake and perfect beach and dock area. We fished right off the dock. Beach is perfect for children! We rented a pontoon boat which was so worth it to be able to hop out on the lake anytime day or night! They delivered it to the English Lake dock. Chippewa pizza in Clam Lake rivals some of the best Chicago pizza! Taking a day or two up to Lake Superior area and Copper Falls is worth it. We had ages 9 to 75 and there was something for everyone. We travel vacation homes a lot. Gregg and Rich were outstanding to work with. My daughter summed it up "mom, can we come back here to this house, not any other house, this house!". :). We look forward to returning to. English Lake Escape soon!
We went to English Lake Escape for a long weekend and could not have had a more relaxing and enjoyable time. The cabin is in the heart of the Chequamegan Forest and very few homes were actually allowed to be built on the lake so it is incredibly peaceful. The cabin is brand new and in perfect condition. The decor and furnishings are so well done and the owners did not skimp on any details. It is the ideal Northwoods retreat and is as clean as can be! We went in the middle of summer and even though the outdoor temps were hot, the cabin stayed really cool all day. There is a great breeze that flows through the open floor plan. The cabin features a beautiful stone fireplace, a nice campfire, custom wood deck and outdoor furniture, a serene screened in porch, a sandy swimming beach and dock. And don't forget the thousands of acres of wilderness that surrounds the cabin - perfect for cross country skiing, snowmobiling, ATV riding and nature walks. We are going to try to make English Lake Escape our annual summer getaway and we plan to visit this winter too. I bet it is really pretty in the winter time!
This cabin was a great family vacation destination. When you first pull into the driveway, you are amazed at the beautiful view the cabin has over English lake which is right on the property. Walking into the cabin for the first time, it does not disappoint in anyways either. Everything was in great shape and allowed us to really enjoy our visit. I am not sure what the average water level for the lake is at the property, but our 1 and 3 year old were able to play in the water on the small sanded area of the shore without any safety concerns (since it starts off nice and shallow). The VRBO website does not due this beautiful location justice. We would happily visit again (and have already talked about returning at some point)
North country trail nearby, Clam lake Elk viewing, Hayward, Hurley, Bayfield, Ashland nearby.
