My wife and I bought the townhouse 8 years ago because we wanted a nice get away place in driving distance to the Chicago suburbs, where we live and fell in love with this Galena area (called the Galena Territory) which are 6800 acres of green space, lake, hotel, golf courses, owners club and much more and near the town of Galena which is a unique upscale town focused to the tourist trade and the entire Main Street is on the National Historical Registry. It looks just like it did when President Grant lived here. We now live in this territory full time and love it in all seasons . It is one of the most picturesque location you can find. So we built a house and now rent our townhouse.
Our townhouse is a lovely two bedroom townhouse. We often add new to it and this year we added new hardwood floors, new pull out sofa, new light fixtures and new blinds in the Dinning area. When sitting on the deck there is no one attached to the deck so all you do is enjoy the view and sitting outside. The view from inside or outside is spectacular. This is a very quiet location and yet it is near the amenities what ever you want to do in the territory. To the town of Galena it is only 20 minutes and in the winterr skiing is only 30 minutes away.
We are not golfers or skiers so why do we love this area. We went from part time residents to now full time residents. Very relaxing, we find much to do. ( even not playing golf or skiing), we love shopping in the town, going to the art galleries, going to the artist gallery openings, going to wineries and because it is tourist oriented, almost monthly there are festivals and special weekends all year long, art festivals, craft show week end, the taste of Galena, hot air balloon races and much more or just driving on the picturesque roads in any season ( fall is gorgeous but I also love the other seasons for views). Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall this place is wonderful with a lot to do.
We also love the many excellent restaurants in the town and at the hotel Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa. We come from Chicago,a restaurant town, but some of the best gourmet, ethnic and pizza restaurants are in Galena.
Nestled among the most beautiful hills and valleys in the Midwest, The Galena Territory is a 6,800-acre planned residential and recreational community. Property owners and their guests, and resort guests enjoy a variety of amenities that include boating and fishing on Lake Galena, hiking on 23 miles of trails through pristine woodlands and prairies, 63-holes of championship golf, at the nearby hotel plus other golf in Galena area. Horseback riding at the Shenandoah Riding Center.
Besides the above amenities, we have an outstanding Owners Club that my renters can use with indoor and outdoor pools, a large complete fitness center, game rooms, basketball court, outdoor tennis and kids playground plus much more.
A vacation spot with much to do and not far drive to get to this area anywhere in the midwest.
The town of Galena is a unique art gallery, restaurant, shopping town that is on the National Regisitry so it looks like it did when President Grant was here in the mid 1800's. Very unique with great stores, eating and galleries. All seasons, there is much to do or just relax.
The area where my townhouse is plus the town of Galena is fun for all ages, kids to all adults.
In all seasons this area is nice and there are festivals throughout the year. I like it in some respects more in winter than the rest of the year. Festivals:
February is the Taste of Galena - many samples from the town restaurants to eat one Friday night in February.
March is wine lovers week end. Lots of wine samples from all over the world plus special dinners.
June is Hot Air Baloon races, top of Illinois wine tasting held in Grant Park plus other special week end events..
Late June or July 4th is a rodeo and then fireworks.
October is a very large craft fair
November is Beajolais Novveau week end. The horse drawn wagon stops at restaurants and drops off the new beajolais wine
December is luminaries week end. The town of Galena puts out 5000 luminaries.
