BEAUTIFUL HOUSE IN THE MOUNTAINS

  • 5 of 5
My friends and I stayed at Villa Erika for a week while traveling through Costa Rica. The house and property are absolutely gorgeous. It's huge inside, with plenty of room to spread out and relax. There were six of us staying there, and we were all able to find some quiet space to ourselves. The kitchen was very large, and well equipped. We cooked a few nice dinners there during our stay. Also, having access to washer/dryer was very nice. From the front lawn there is a nice view of Alajuela and the mountains to the south. Everyone involved, from the owners to the nice lady who cooked us breakfast and tidied up, were helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Climate there was also nice, usually 80F during the days and 55F at night. There were hot showers, which should not be taken for granted in Costa Rica. The house is also located near lots of fun things to do, such as explore the nearby town of Barva, two volcanoes, a canopy tour, and many inexpensive bars/restaurants. That being said, when on the Villa Erika property, one feels nicely secluded from the rest of the world. Cannot recommend this place enough!

BEAUTIFUL AND SPACIOUS VILLA

  • 5 of 5
This house was the best price/value on HomeAway in Costa Rica. I spent eight days in Costa Rica and would stay here again, for sure. You will need to rent a car or reserve an airport pick-up, which is what we did, because its about 45 minutes away. The Villa Erika property is a secret spot off the beaten path, in the central interior mountains of Costa Rica. It was a very quite, secluded and a much relaxing retreat with beautiful grounds. It was the rainy season but it only rained twice when we were there, once at Flamingo at the beach and once at Villa Erika, which was cool and refreshing. The property is vey secured, so much so that when my friends left me for a few hours and locked the gate I could not get off the grounds to walk to the store. Villa Erika is built into the side of the mountain and is a 12' to 50' foot drop. I also stayed two nights in Guanacaste and spent time at Flamingo and Tamarindo beaches. Both beaches are beautiful, but Flamingo is amazing, took about around 5 hours driving to these beaches from Villa Erika. I would definitely recommend adding the breakfast, we only had it four of the days but it was worth the the Costa Rican charm, for $40 for the week. I would stay here again and plan on doing so to see the nearby volcanos and the other beaches as well!

HOLIDAYS AT VILLA ERIKA!

  • 5 of 5
My family and I stayed at Villa Erika for 2 weeks over the Christmas 2011 and New Years 2012 holidays and had an amazing experience. I would highly recommend the property to anyone wanting to stay in the Central Valley of Costa Rica, particularly to those wanting to stay in the Alejuela/Heredia/Volcan Barva-area, who hope to relax in the mountains and avoid the stress and crowds of the nearby cities below.

The property was in excellent condition with the large house full of beautifully-crafted hardwoods from floor to ceiling and grounds full of a wide variety of flowers, trees, and other native plants. The rustic multilevel house comfortably accommodated the 5 adult couples in our group and provided us with plenty of room to spread out and relax. We began our mornings at the property drinking locally-grown coffee (you are right in the heart of coffee country and there are even a few coffee plants in the gardens) and enjoying the near-perfect weather in the backyard with the Central Valley spread out below and ended most nights gathered around the amazing fireplace in the living room. Villa Erika was definitely a perfect location and size for our whole family to spend the holidays relaxing and celebrating together.

Not only was the property itself great, but the Costa Rican owner and his staff were also incredibly friendly and helpful. They were always available and made sure that we had everything we needed from arranging to pick us up and drop us off at the airport on our way into and out of the country to directing or driving us on the numerous day trips in the area (including hiking Volcan Barva and Volcan Poas, spending a day in San Jose, visiting the Orosi Valley, touring a local coffee roaster, and playing golf at a nearby country club). Further, the neighbor and housekeeper stopped by regularly to handle any house-cleaning and laundry needed and to arrange/drop off breakfast and dinner whenever we felt like eating in. Not only was her authentic food delicious, it also made it easier to enjoy the pura vida knowing no one had to cook (especially for my mother). Though we did eat at the house most nights, there were also plenty of restaurants and markets in the nearby cities and towns just a few minutes up or down the mountain for when we decided to venture out.

Overall, Villa Erika was an excellent place for our family to spend the holidays and we are already looking forward to returning in the future.

LOVE THIS QUIET RETREAT!

  • 5 of 5
I loved my stay at this fabulous tucked away gem in San Jose De La Montana. The spacious lush grounds were stunning and the rustic charm of the property was perfect. The staff were attentive. We relaxed here for several days, drinking in the beautiful grounds and peaceful tranquil surroundings. We used this as our home base and travelled on to Jaco, Manuel Antonio and Lake Arenal. Villa Erika is the perfect getaway retreat. The nearby waterfall at mount barva and great restaurants were sublime. The zip line was a blast too and only a mile from the house. Our peaceful stay was heaven! Can't recommend it enough!

Villa Erika is located halfway up Volcan Barva, just 3.1 miles above the town of Barva, Costa Rica’s second oldest town and first to be declared historic. You're in luck if Spanish colonial towns spark your interest, because Barva is just one of many nearby. If you fancy coffee, you'll love the coffee farms that dominate the landscape just below Villa Erika. If you want to hike up a gorgeous mountain, explore mountain rivers, bicycle, do a canopy tour via zip line, horseback ride, or perhaps just enjoy the Heredia Provincial Orchestra, all of that and much more is within10 miles of the Villa.

Golf: Cariari County Club is only 20 miles from Villa Erika. Cariari is an 18-hole championship golf course (6590 yards, par 71) that has hosted many Central and South American professional tournaments and frequented by many of the biggest names in golf. Built in 1971, Cariari was designed by George Fazio (Tom Fazio may have assisted) and it is probably still Costa Rica’s most venerable golf course. Whether you‘re on a Costa Rican golf tour or just want to play a round of golf, Cariari Country Club is a must.
