Disappointing...

The description of this property is not entirely accurate. While set in a pristine environment, we noticed a list of problems within the first day of staying there. When we walked in we noticed an unpleasant odor and were disappointed with the general lack of cleanliness. Specifically, there were a lot of mouse droppings in the cupboards and even on the floor. While we were there my husband caught 2 mice with traps that we bought. Also, the ceiling leaked when it rained and there were 2 large black mold spots on the ceiling near the fireplace. We were pleased with how remote and peaceful the location was and enjoyed playing in the tiny creek and having fires in the firepit. However, the 4 wheeler had a dead battery so we were unable to use it to access the creek, which requires quite a steep hike and is surrounded by poison ivy. Not a terrible place, but not quite as described and we would not stay there again.
Owner's Response: We have a few of these properties, and always strive to give a great value. I have come to realize that we will never please everyone. Not saying as a cop out but as a fact and a way to keep up moral.
This is a budget cabin in the middle of the woods and I can not promise that if every deep corner is inspected a mouse dropping can not be found, though I would be surprised, I do not believe they caught 2 mice. That said I, and you expect a clean decently maintained Cabin and it is. We always test the 4 wheeler between vacationers, and it was dead after them, I feel possibly the lights were left on during the day and they may not have realized it
Of course I am Bias but when I read this, and went down to the private 10 acre Berrys creek grille picnic area on so called tiny Huckleberry Creek. Shore to shore is about 12 feet with the creek usually 5 to 8 feet wide and average 10 inches deep. With Outdoor grill, picnic table, Hucks hammock, sideways tree, laurel trails, gem pan, and think about having a campfire in the evenings next to your 3 bedroom 2 bath cabin with a private peaceful WNC setting . Then I compare it to a basic hotel or row cabin, I truly feel we are one of the best values out there. Weekly rates are about 65 a night
If you just want a room and are not interested in experiencing The beautiful nature this area is known for this may not be for you. This is a nature lovers property
