Waterfront cottage on Butler's Cove off Budd Bay in South Puget Sound near Olympia. Cottage sits 13 feet from water's edge. Boat, swim at high tide; beach comb at low tide. Quiet, wooded acre setting where you may spot deer, bald eagles, blue herons and other wildlife and birds.

Perfect location for visitors to The Evergreen State College or to the State Capitol. Great option for a romantic get away or for a family vacation. Cabin is five minutes from west Olympia (where you will find Skep `n Skein Pub, Vic's Pizza, grocery stores, food co-op, shopping, restaurants, plus movie theaters and shopping at Capitol Mall), and ten minutes from downtown Olympia (live theatre, waterfront boardwalk, marinas, Hands On Childrens' museum, restaurants, Fish Brewery/Brew Pub, and the State Capitol campus).

Good base for visits to Washington coast and Olympic Peninsula, as well as Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier.

About Deborah Pattin

My family has owned this waterfront cottage since 1982. We lived there full time for 11 years before building a larger house to accommodate out growing (now grown) children. We continue to vacation at the cottage, hold family gatherings, or just go over for a walk on the beach or for a outing in the boat. We live not far away from the cottage so if you need anything while you are there, have questions, need directions or referrals, etc., we are usually nearby to be of assistance. The cottage is set up like a home and you will be quite comfortable there.

Why Deborah Pattin chose Olympia

We fell in love with the property the minute we first saw it in June 1982. The cottage is nestled at the base of a hill on an acre of forested land. The road to the property is a windy country road that hugs a forested hillside. The second you drive onto the road, you feel the cooler temperature, smell the forest and the water. You give a relaxing sigh. Ah, relaxation. From the decks of the cottage, you are only 13 feet from the shore edge and you can watch the tides come in and out, and view the wildlife: deer, seal, blue heron and other sea birds, salmon, river otters and more. A wonderful place to relax.

What makes this cabin unique

Close to town but it feels like you are miles away. You can be downtown or at the State Capitol in 10 minutes, to The Evergreen State College in 5 minutes or less, and to Hwy 101 or Interstate 5 within 5 minutes, as well as to major grocery stores, shopping centers, service stations, movie and live theatres, pubs, restaurants, churches, museums, medical offices and the hospitals within minutes. But it feels like you are out in the country, in a quite, private retreat.

Cottage is located on Butler Cove, a tidal saltwater cove off Budd Bay in south Puget Sound. Nestled in a wooded area, the cottage is less than 5 minutes from The Evergreen State College and only 10 minutes from the State Capitol and downtown Olympia. Butler Cove is a tidal area that empties to a stream at low tide and fills to the bulkhead at high tide.

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed the brilliantly designed beach cottage, with gorgeous views out every window, making the whole place feel like there was no boundary between indoors and outdoors. We are looking forward to returning soon!

Beautiful Bay Front Home

This is a wonderful home to rent; everything that you need is here! The layout of the home is beautiful; many windows, right on the bay. It is CLEAN and comfortable. The owners offer so much hospitality - they even left a welcome message for us spelled out in magnetic letters on the refrigerator! All of the little things that you need like fresh coffee, filters, spices, soap, paper towel, etc., are provided - even fresh fruit and oatmeal for breakfast! We only stayed for a couple of days but this place would be comfortable for extended stays. It is very close to both the city of Olympia and Evergreen College and also a great central location for visits to Mount Rainier, Mount Saint Helens, White Pass and Crystal Mountain, Olympic National Park, Seattle, and Portland. I'll be back to stay in the future! Thanks Debbie!

Quaint and cozy cabin-like house

We stayed with our two young daughters (4 and 7) and my wife's brother. It was a nice spot on the edge of the bay. It's tidal, so it's interesting to witness the changing tides. My daughter had a great time collecting shells - they were everywhere. The house was cozy with a wood stove and windows in the living room and kitchen overlooking the bay. The larger bedroom overlooks the bay too. The house has more of a cabin-like feel settled within tall trees and the interior full of woodwork. There's a small boat with oars that's available for use to head out into the bay. I thought the price was reasonable.

Great Spot - Pet Friendly

This cottage was outstanding. The pictures and descriptions were spot on. Wonderful view, even though it rained much of the time I was there.

The house is well laid out, with everything you might need. The yard was perfect for the Puppy, except that he needed to be on a leash because he could have escaped under the deck, or at the end of the fence.

Owners were most helpful if anything at all was needed.

I'd come back if in the area again.
