I grew up in South Florida and when I first arrived to Puerto Vallarta in 2005, it seemed I'd gone back in time because it felt like the slow and easy pace of Florida in the early 1970's.

I've come to love Puerto Vallarta very much and have witnessed a great deal of growth. The new marina, shopping mall, recently the new pier and so much more is planned for Puerto Vallarta, making this a first class vacation destination spot as well as the number one place to retire. There are many expats who live here full or part time. I am often here in Puerto Vallarta and may occasionally be available to meet guests, either myself or my property manager and team. This personal service makes all the difference between staying in an anonymous hotel or condo or staying on with folks who treat you truly as friends who have come to stay.

Lupita Hernandez, Manager purchased this house in 2006

Casa Marfil is centrally located right in front of the Rio Cuale Island which is truly the only green space in the city of Puerto Vallarta. We are minutes walk from the Malecon, restaurants and beaches. The Rio Cuale and the nature that live around the river, the iguana, the parrot, the frogs all combine to make Casa Marfil and the area where we are located a veritable oasis in the middle of the city.

Casa Marfil was built and is one of the oldest homes in Puerto Vallarta, the street we are on has some of the most unique and authentically Mexican homes in the city. With an eye to detail and convenience, we've kept the authentic Mexican casa feel and combined it with the convenience of modern living, appliances like dishwasher and kitchen appliances that are new all work to feel like First World convenience with Old World Charm.

Sheryll,

All I can say is wow. Casa Marfil was everything we hoped for and more for our 10 year anniversary. The house was perfect. It had all sorts of charm and we felt like we had stepped back in time only with stainless steel appliances and running water. We had a blast walking on the cobblestone street up to our house everyday. The locals were very friendly and we enjoyed buying glass bottle cokes from the little conveyance shop and talking with the owner. The house is perfectly located and the views were incredible. We loved hanging out on the roof every morning looking out over the Sierra Madre mountains and the ocean. We enjoyed watching the locals across the river live everyday life and we got to watch a man every other morning training pigeons how to fly in unison. We even had a Iguana join us for a beer one evening. Thanks so much for the suggestions we loved going to Sayullita. The Surfing was a blast. We also really enjoyed going to Yelapa by Water taxi. We got to see 4 sea Turtles and it was like stepping back in time in that little village and the waterfall was beautiful. We were the only ones there. We also went through Vallarta Adventures for the whale watching, Snorkeling, and we swam with Sea Lions. They did a great job and there service was really good. Thanks for taking the time to talk with me and for checking up on us. We cannot wait to share your place with our kids when we come to see you again. Soon I hope. I highly recommend Casa Marfill to any one who doesn't want to get caught in a tourist trap , but wants to get out and explore Puerta Vallarta for the beautiful and friendly City it Is.
Thanks Sherryl My best vacation to date.

Warm and spacious home

The listing accurately captures the character and quality of the home. The property owner, Sherryl is extremely helpful and responsive to my many questions. She even volunteered information that proved very helpful to us. Her home has many beautiful and authentic Mexican art pieces which serve to make the experience that much more appealing. The home is located in close proximity to the Romantica Zone and the ocean. Of course, you have to be able to navigate the cobblestone streets and the grade.

If you want to prepare your own meals the home has all the amenities one would need to make meals to your liking. The rooftop palapa has beautiful views of the surrounding areas and is designed for ultimate entertainment and/or relaxation.

This is my first experience staying renting someone's home and of course there was some initial trepidation. Let me assure anyone that is considering this home that the listing and accompanying photos truly and accurately depict the home. Any concerns that you have will be honestly addressed by the owner.

If you are looking for a spacious home that will accommodate 6-7 adults or kids and want something different than the resort experience this is a place one should seriously consider. One proviso: if you are planning on walking to and from town from the home, make sure you bring comfortable shoes. Of course anyone who wants to truly experience the richness of Puerto Vallarta will already have planned to do so.

The whole package along with outstanding service!

Where do I begin to describe our outstanding stay in Casa Marfil? The pleasure of our trip began long before we arrived in MX. For this trip, my girlfriends wanted to stay in an all inclusive resort so that we wouldn’t have to prepare food. I wanted a more authentic, yet relaxing vacation to Mexico. Along the way we found Casa Marfil & its owner, Sherryl. The pictures online showed exactly the type of house I was looking for, comfortable & modern, yet authentic in a Mexican style. I contacted Sherryl & from day one Sherryl was so helpful & responsive. Her correspondence to me regarding her house showed me that she took great pride in her property & that she treated the VRBO set up very professionally, yet personably.

But I still had to sell my friends. Their main concern was the meal preparation. We didn’t have a huge budget so I went to Sherryl & asked about the listed, “catering” option. Sherryl provided different menus for us to choose from, using her local, artisan chef (which was amazing!!) The food looked exceptional at prices we could swing! This was a great selling point to my friends & opened them to staying at CM. At this point it was a no brainer. With the beauty in the house and Sherryl’s service & attitude, her helpful, responsive & welcoming attentiveness sold us! I could just tell that if we had any issues while on our vacation, she would help us work things out. And it was true. She was available but not in our faces. The whole time we knew we could call on her but she didn’t ever show up unless we needed something & asked.

The house is as the pictures show with 3 full bedrooms, all with their own private bathrooms, decorated in beautiful authentic Mexican tile décor. It is easily big enough for 3 couples or a large family. There are 3-4 levels so lots of different spaces to hang out. The kitchen is large, with seriously every convenience you can image. The balcony & rooftops – so perfect for lounging! The walk to the city center is just enough exercise but not too much, (it is vaca remember) only 5-10min on a great cobblestone street.

This house is truly everything the profile describes & more! Oh, we had brand new pillow top mattresses & cleaning service every 2 days. How can you top that? You can’t. This place is the full package. Safe, beautiful inside & out, close to EVERYTHING PV has to offer & your host, Sherryl, will leave your future VRBO experiences with a very high standard to match. Thank you for our prefect vacat

pleasant enough stay, horrid departure

We were blamed for breaking the coffee pot. We were left a mouldy coffee pot where the grounds had been accidentally left in place!! I noticed it had small cracks on one area of the lower rim but it did not leak. Just before our departure I heard a crash in the kitchen where the maid was working - perhaps that is when it broke. We never used it, knowing it had been mouldy put us off.
The house is large and contains much that was our taste, and much that was not. It is quite dark and cluttered with personal items. The owner was kind initially but accused of us of the breakage and not tipping, assuming what we left was the whole tip. We were accused of leaving fur in the house, and that the litter smelled. We felt the sealed storage litter box, which we threw out, was so fancy the maid tried to keep it, as Laura returned it to the house as we left? It smelled of urine, like all cat boxes, and we had the house closed up to use air conditioning as it was so hot, yet had opened it long prior to leaving as we knew other folk were coming. We cleaned the fur away, any missed, sorry.
Unfortunately we were accused of running off with the deposit as well, so it did not end on the best of terms. We felt the amount we paid was fair for what we got though, but we would not pay the Winter rate, even if we wanted to spend that much. We would not recommend it after being treated this way - there is better around. The location is great, although rather dirty to walk to town, but location is only part of things, and others have as good or better in that respect. [No pool too, but we knew that].

Located in the area known as 'Gringo Gulch', nearby the famous 'Kimberly House', Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton's house they owned when she was filming John Huston's 'Night of the Iguana' in the 1960's.
