We came to Puerto Vallarta in 2005 and were enchanted by the laid back and relaxed atmosphere. Great communities and people, easy to relocate and feel comfortable. We currently split our time between the U.K. and Puerto Vallarta.
Lupita Hernandez, Manager purchased this house in 2006
Casa Marfil is centrally located right in front of the Rio Cuale Island which is truly the only green space in the city of Puerto Vallarta. We are minutes walk from the Malecon, restaurants and beaches. The Rio Cuale and the nature that live around the river, the iguana, the parrot, the frogs all combine to make Casa Marfil and the area where we are located a veritable oasis in the middle of the city.
Casa Marfil was built and is one of the most unique homes in Puerto Vallarta, the street we are on has some of the most unique and authentically Mexican homes in the city. With an eye to detail and convenience, we've kept the authentic Mexican casa feel and combined it with the convenience of modern living, appliances like dishwasher and kitchen appliances that are new all work to feel like First World convenience with Old World Charm.
We are a group of four who travel to Puerto Vallarta a lot. This was the first time we stayed in a house. We were amazed at how beautiful it was. The first thing that impressed us was the warm welcome we received from Lupita, the manager, and Laura the maid and cook. They were so sincerely warm and helpful. We felt at home in paradise the moment we got there.
We chose the shuttle from the airport. Lupita set this all up for us. When we landed there was a friendly driver with a sign and bottles of cold water at the airport. He took us to a big store, then up the hill to the beautiful house. No hassles at all. The house was gorgeous and spotless, with plenty of cold drinking water. Every day we sat out on the patio and marveled at the amazing jungle view. It took us back in time to a simpler, most peaceful time. It was easy walking distance to the beach, the Malecon (boardwalk), to churches, our favorite restaurants, parks, the Rio Cuale, the town square, and everywhere we wanted to go.
One of the highlights was the magnificent meal Laura made for us for a very reasonable price. She made a Mexican feast with fresh fish, beans, guacamole, rice, tortillas, salsa and a very refreshing, fresh juice smoothie. The price was very low, and she is so precious and sweet.
The rooms are adorable with colorful artwork and bedding, all immaculate. The kitchen is huge with everything you might want to prepare all kinds of food. We highly recommend having Laura cook, however, and next time we will utilize her services more. She is a gem.
We sincerely felt we were part of the culture staying at Casa Marfil. It was so much nicer than staying at any hotel where you feel like a tourist. Walking up and down the quaint, cobblestone streets we encountered many very friendly people who greeted us warmly.I cried the day we left because a big part of me stayed in my beautiful Mexico at my home away from home in paradise. We all agree that this beautiful home in paradise is an oasis in the middle of one of the most beautiful places on earth. Highly recommend.
All communication was great, and damage deposit was refunded completely in a timely manner.
We were excited about Casa Marfil from the beautiful pictures on the website. When we arrived, we noticed the beautiful gated door that welcomed us. We quickly found the rooms exactly as they appeared from the description. The house was clean and we were further welcomed by the housekeeper, Laura. She had prepared a delicious melon drink that was so refreshing. We also had asked her ahead of time to prepare dinner for our first night since we would be tired from flying. The house was perfect for our family of 10. We had ample room to spread out, the ability to cook our own meals, and enough space to relax and enjoy the views and wildlife of the River Cuale after each days' adventures. We even took one day just to stay at the house and rest. Some of us took naps while others read and listened to music. We especially liked the location which was close enough to all the buzz of the beaches and activities but yet far enough away to enjoy the quiet streets and day to day life of the locals. We utilized the walking bridge down to Isla Cuale everyday and enjoyed strolling in the shade past the market vendors on our 10 minute walk to the beach. Our favorite places were the Malecon for strolling, Fredy's Tucan for Sunday brunch, Adobe's restaurant for an evening dinner, the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe for Mass, and the flea markets for souvenirs. We also requested a transfer to and from the airport which was arranged by Lupita through Superior Tours. The driver was excellent and made a grocery stop so we could pick up supplies for the week. We also booked two additional excursions through Puerta Vallarta tours for a trip to San Sebastian and the Pirate Adventure/Mahahuitas beach day. Because of the location of the house, we were able to walk to the pick up point for the trip to San Sebastian. The house was also close to a bus stop where we caught a city bus to the Maritime Terminal for the Pirate Adventure. We also took a city bus back and walked the short distance to the house at the end of the day. We will definitely recommend Casa Marfil to our friends who regularly vacation in PV and hope to visit again. It's nice to know what to expect and what worked for us. It will make our next stay even more enjoyable!
Casa Marfil is in a great location for vacationing in Puerto Vallarta. It is in walking distance to the romantic zone restaurants, markets, and to the beach via the malecon. The house offers 4 floors of quiet, private living. It was perfect for 3 couples. The kitchen is well stocked with any item you may need to cook or make a snack. The only issue that may cause problems for some people is the multiple stairs in the house. Overall, my stay at Casa Marfil was very enjoyable and the property manager Lupita was very helpful with rental arrangements.
The house was perfect for a family vacation. We loved the gourmet kitchen and used it everyday for breakfast and dinner. The house had everything we needed including all cooking utensils linens for the whole family and washer/ dryer. We did not have to worry about a thing. The housekeeper Laura was fantastic, the house was immaculate upon arrival! The location was perfect walking distance to all markets and malecon. Overall the stay was amazing and I would highly recommend it to anyone. The pictures on VRBO are accurate. Thank you Casa Marfil staff for an amazing vacation!
Our time in Puerto Vallarta and staying at Casa Marfil was lovely, low key, and delightful. From the time we arrived and were greeted by the transfer company and brought straight to the house and were greeted by Laura and the staff, we had every care or need taken care of. The house is gorgeous and the photos show the house as it truly is, very beautiful, Mexican casa built in the style of Puerto Vallarta, lots of open air construction, red tile roof, terraces and roof tops gardens to enjoy and relax.
Casa Marfil is located centrally so we enjoyed our walks to the Rio Cualé Island and from there walked to the beaches, open air markets and souvenir shops and restaurants. Plenty of things to do and explore. We visited Yelapa on a beautiful sailboat and on another day with went to the Marietas Island for snorkeling on a huge catamaran. Both days were booked and reserved through Casa Marfil and we also enjoyed a small discount for booking through Casa Marfil.
Laura is wonderful! She made us Mexican styled breakfasts and is so sweet. She is definitely a plus for Casa Marfil as she keeps everything in order and clean. We will definitely be back to visit Puerto Vallarta and to stay at Casa Marfil where we feel like its home away from home.
Our stay at Casa Marfil was wonderful. The actual house is beautiful. Laura and Oscar (the caretakers) are wonderful people. We had a lovely time in Puerto Vallarta and in the house. The neighborhood is beautiful- we got to know the owners of the abarrotes (corner store) and several of the neighbors on the street. There is a great little farmers market a few blocks away where we got to know the butcher and several of the vendors. Puerto Vallarta is a magical place. The palapa on the roof of Casa Marfil housed us for many hours as we drew pictures, painted, played games and chased lizards. The porch off the kitchen was another favorite place to sit and watch the crazy gorgeous thunderstorms. The kitchen is awesome- especially because our budget didn't allow for much eating out. The bedrooms are nice- each with their own bathroom. We felt very secure and comfortable there.
Like another reviewer mentioned, we did have a checkout issue. My husband requested that the owner return our complete deposit. There were some house issues that the owner never took care of during our stay- and we thought it would be fair if she returned the complete deposit. To which she responded by accusing my husband of being sexist and eventually digressed to telling us we must have marital problems. At no point was it about the money and if she would have said, "hey, I don't think your troubles are worth $100.00 so meet me in the middle"- or even, "I hear you but I can't afford to give you back the money" we would have been fine with that. But the fact that she resorted to insults and really strange accusations (including an accusation that we broke a really old water pump)- increased my desire to get the money back based on principle. Kudos to her, she did the right thing in the end and returned the full deposit but only after several strange emails. Oh well.
Like I said, the caretakers could not have been better. Definitely shining stars of the trip. I could see how people who were staying for just a week would have a more seamless exit and would give it 5 stars. There was a little headache at the end but it in no way overshadowed our month there.
Located in the area known as 'Gringo Gulch', nearby the famous 'Kimberly House', Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton's house they owned when she was filming John Huston's 'Night of the Iguana' in the 1960's.
