PHOEBE'S NEST, CLASSIC CRAFTSMAN IN BANKER'S HILL / HILLCREST

Have you ever had a fantasy about living in the perfect California Craftsman bungalow? With a gracious front porch, where you can sit in a comfortable chair and read a good book or have a glass of wine as you look out over the neighborhood? Or a cozy interior with wonderful Craftsman woodwork, a fireplace flanked by built-in bookshelves, a built-in buffet in the dining room and even a breakfast nook off the kitchen?

Imagine our delight when we discovered Phoebe’s Nest, a beautifully restored and renovated Craftsman bungalow in Banker’s Hill, one of San Diego’s most charming and convenient neighborhoods. After visiting the website, our expectations were high, but none of them were disappointed, in fact they were exceeded.

The renovation of the original bungalow includes a fully equipped kitchen with top quality appliances, where you can do some serious cooking. The light-filled master bedroom suite, with a luxurious bathroom, has French doors that open onto a beautiful, private terrace. The furnishing of Phoebe’s Nest has obviously been a labor of love from the furniture down to the linens. Julianne Pullido, the property manager, introduces you to the bungalow when you arrive and responds quickly to any questions or concerns during your stay. We’re already looking forward to our next visit.

Phoebe's Nest was the perfect retreat for a weekend get away trip to San Diego for myself and three girlfriends (in addition to a baby). Absolutely charming and cozy and in close proximity to great restaurants. This was the perfect alternative to a hotel and we appreciated having the option to cook in the kitchen or walk to a nearby restaurant. Truly a find and I am already looking forward to a return visit.

If you want to be close to city life, but sleep and relax in a quiet spot, this wonderful, historic California bungalow is your place. Although you can sleep 5, it is best suited for two couples, as the fifth sleeps in the living room. Amenities are excellent, the kitchen appliances are high quality, and both the front porch and back patio are shady and wonderful places to sit and talk or read. (gas grill, plenty of hangers, exercise ball & hand weights!) Downtown with the Gaslamp Quarter and Little Italy (Flippis Pizza a must) are 5 min. East to the canyon and San Diego State, 10 min, and north to Endicino(Hacienda del Vega one of the best al fresco dinning experiences ever) 25 min: both freeways and easy acess fron the house. The best though, is the 5min to Balboa Park with the San Diego Zoo and more Museums than you can visit in 2 weeks. San Diego has much to offer, and Phoebe's Nest is the perfect gateway.
