The Owner purchased this cottage in 2011
One of us is a Malibu native and still a home girl at heart. Both of us have longed to live where we can breathe easily, grow our own food, have water from our own well, enjoy natural and architectural beauty, and still be close to our urban and family responsibilities. After years of searching, we finally got lucky.
This little house and it's surroundings are amazing! So cozy and comfortable and Diane and Mattias are the nicest people you could hope for. The eggs from their hens and freshly baked bread were such a nice touch! We plan to come back again and again! Thank you.
This is definitely a lovely cottage and we have enjoyed it a lot. The surrounding area is just gorgeous and the hosts are super nice and friendly. We would highly recommend this property!
my wife and I had a great relaxing one night here for our 10th anniversary. it would have been better if we could have stayed longer or possibly explore the area and enjoy the beautiful scenes and ruggedness but unfortunately, we arrived around 8pm when it was all dark. this place is not a luxury stay by any means but as owners describe it well, 'rugged' stone/clay walls all around with all the amenities you'll need to stay for couple of days. we quickly wished we brought our kids here with outdoor bbq and beach enjoyment but we'll keep that plan for the next summer.
few things could have made this place nicer is that it definitely need a dining table to gather up and enjoy their food under the light. Also thought the place needed some handy work around the house and needed some new rugs. two oil heaters worked but power amp couldn't handle them at higher level, therefore need to increase the amp. we were left without heaters overnight.
but overall, nice unique and relaxing experience after a long day of horse riding, wine tasting and sunset dinner around Malibu. Mattias and Diane were very friendly and accommodating throughout from reservation to invitations.
we would love to comeback during summer with our kids.
My daughter, friend and I feel so enriched to have stayed here, and highly recommend it - its hard to know where to begin with the praise;
First class, trustworthy administration and owners - who are also kind, incredibly customer orientated (so helpful on every level), charismatic, warm, fun and friendly. The estate and cottage is absolutely beautiful, deep within the "Malibu" foothills. The cottage is classy and sophisticated, yet also a rustic haven (attractive stone walls, big lounge and TV screen, lovely breakfast bar - yet minimal curtains just covering door space/privacy of bathroom).
The cottage is bigger inside than imagined and it is true that the photos do not do it justice. You are getting the experience of staying on a fabulous private estate, and of what it must be like to be lucky enough to live in such a stunning situation. The wooded views are amazing, and relaxing - from every window of the large round cottage interior. There are loungers and a pretty table to sit and have meals.
The property is clean and well maintained and the owners are very responsive to assist in any they can.
I wish there was a facility to post the gorgeous photos we took!
Thank you, Diane and Matthias for absolutely everything, and not least the eggs!
I will be highly recommending this to all my friends and really hope to return one day.
There are beautiful beaches nearby, and this is a lovely retreat from which to explore all the best that Malibu has to offer.
Talk about a dream wedding! Hidden in the hills of Malibu, we found this unique treasure. Diane and Matthias are the owners of this stunning estate. The grounds are like an enchanted forest. It's really like no place we've ever seen. Everywhere you look is another photo op. The plants and stonework were beautiful. And the views of the Mailbu hills and canyons were breathtaking. They also have a guest cottage right on the grounds. We used this as a kids' playhouse with sitters … which worked perfectly. And then we stayed there overnight … allowing us to enjoy our wedding down to the last minute. Diane and Mattias themselves were phenomenal. Diane is so professional and organized. And Mattias must be the hardest worker I've ever met, with a smile on his face the whole time. They were truly delightful, and so fun and easy going. The venue was the most important part of our wedding planning, since we had guests coming from around the world. We wanted to give them a true Malibu wedding that they'd never forget. And we owe it to Casa Encantada for fulfilling our dreams!
This place is amazing! Fabulous stone house set in the woods. Hosts are excellent -- friendly, personable, interesting, and accommodating. I have stayed in both July and now January and thoroughly enjoyed both trips. The heaters kept it warm enough for me in January, though I did put on a fleece vest in the evenings and brought a fleece throw for when I was watching TV. I stayed with my medium-sized dog, who gives the place "four paws"! We hiked every day -- there are excellent dog-friendly hikes in the Santa Monica National Recreation Area. Can't recommend this place enough!
Other Activities: hiking, wine tasting, farmer's markets
