I booked this place as a Romantic Christmas gift getaway for my girlfriend and i for 3 nights. Drove 5 hours to be in this area. Gorgeous area and cottage. So clean and the location is unbelievable. We arrived late at night, Cathy was kind enough to leave a note detailing everything out and a lovely tray of cookies was also waiting. Hot tub is close by, bring shoes or something plus a bathrobe if in the winter. The mattress was a little soft but not terribly uncomfortable. The kitchen was fully stocked, only thing i didn't find was a whisk but a fork works just as well. I cooked meals all day for the two of us there. oven is a small one but i was able to manage. The only thing i could recommend is tending to the bathroom window. It doesn't seal so the bathroom was always cold especially when the outside temp is around 8 degrees. Their is a wall unit heater to take the edge off but if the door is left open it does nothing. The surrounding area was the immediate downtown on Main St. and not far is plenty of hiking, skiing, and the Olympic attractions are worth the time. I can't wait to come back sometime in the summer so i can take advantage of the lakes and all the hiking. The place is so cozy i didn't want to leave. The living room couch was comfy to watch a movie with the gas fireplace on. Like i said before i cannot wait to come out this way again and stay here.
I stayed here for 3 nights with my wife and 3 month old baby. We could not fault Highland cottage. We were there during the winter and the cabin was extremely cozy and warm. The cabin was extremely homely and the location was very close to town. The Ski shuttle stop at a nearly hotel to whiteface mountain was less than 5 minutes walk away. Cathy was a great host who ensured our stay was enjoyable and was always within easy reach via phone but she was never intrusive during our stay so it was a very private lodge even though her home was next door. Everything was clean, warm, dry and the kitchen was very well stocked. Thank you for your hospitality Cathy! And the cookies too!
Thank you so much, Cathy, for the beautiful stay at the cabin. Alex and I enjoyed all of your little creative, adirondack, home-y touches SO much! We moved right in and felt so comfortable relaxing in the living room with the fireplace. The board games, cookies on the counter, and orange juice in the fridge were lovely additions that made us feel right at home and so welcome to be at the cottage. We loved the way the space was laid out, including the second couch/dressing area and the sleeping loft. Such a great use of space! Finally, the hottub and surround sound music system, were some of our favorite additions to our stay. We LOVED being in the heat, as the snow fell around us! What a great pick Alex made for my birthday weekend! It was an incredibly special weekend and it would not have been half of what it was without your wonderful hospitality and cute adirondack cabin! Sorry we didn't get to meet you and thanks so much!
I looked through all the other reviews before I booked with Cathy. There were NO negative reviews. Human nature being what it is, this surprised me no end. But after spending the week there, I understand why everyone has been so pleased. The space itself is very nice and Cathy does many welcoming things each of which is a pleasant surprise. I will give you one example: the air conditioner was running when we arrived late one hot evening. It was a delight to walk into the cool space. Not every host will keep it cool for when you arrive, but this exemplifies Cathy's hospitality. I will let the other welcoming touches surprise you. The only caution I have is for others in my age cohort (Medicare recipients) who may have creaky knees. There are two half flights of stairs to negotiate to get to the bathroom. But the whole week was definitely worth the effort!
Great little place to stay. Clean and odor free! My wife and I were in Lake Placid to do some hiking. Nice location. A short walk down a hill to downtown Lake Placid. Owner was excellent about responding. WiFi could be stronger but still worked. Very cozy and welcoming feel.
We would definitely recommend and may return.
Staying at the Highland Cottage was great! My husband and I eloped in Lake Placid and then stayed at the cottage for 4 days. When we arrived the cottage was very clean and welcoming, it really felt like home (there was even a plate of cookies!). This was our first time renting a vacation house and the owner was wonderful! She answered my emails very quickly and was extremely helpful!
Everything was very clean and had new carpeting throughout the cottage. It was very nice to have a few things like ketchup and half and half in the fridge and coffee ready to be ground.
The hot tub was great on the cold nights, snowy nights. The sound system in the gazebo was awesome too.
We are already planning our next trip up there!
