Tatjana & Mario Hellenbrand purchased this villa in 2007
Fiji is a great location! The people are very friendly, the vegetation is awesome and it is always warm. Savusavu has all infrastructure with airport, hospital, Police Station, Post Office and all necessary shops for your daily demand.
Absolute privacy and a stunning view.
This was our second stay at the Blue Banana. The view is spectacular, and the accommodation is spotless and comfortable, with everything you need. There is an excellent, large shower. The tap water is very nice, and safe to drink. The pool is clean and refreshing, and the gardens are very lovely, with beautiful birds. There is excellent snorkeling nearby, and good diving in the area. The hosts, Mario and Tatjana, go out of their way to make your stay terrific, and we enjoyed connecting with them again. There is a lively market in town. The people are very friendly - get your "Bula" ready!
Hi there! I stayed at Maracuja for 5 nights in June 2014. I really enjoyed my stay. The views were excellent, there is a pool right down the steps which is lovely. A very lovely large patio as well, beautiful back yard! The villa is spacious and was clean when I moved in. There are actually three bedrooms, but I only needed one. Mario was very helpful with everything that I needed, and he was very generous with topping up the internet as I definitely used a lot of internet (downloading movies).
I would definitely recommend the stay, as it is a very nice area and a decent price too! Thank you Mario for the wonderful stay, look forward to staying with you again.
A few things to note, but not deter you from staying!
1. Taxi is by 4WD taxi only, 10 FJD to or from town. Get their numbers so that you can arrange pickup or drop off.
2. The villa Maracuja could use a little TLC on the wooden floors in the living room, several of the floor boards give when walking on them and are about to break.
3. Some of the lights dont work in villa Maracuja, or if they do I could not find a switch to turn them on. Labelling switches would be very useful for visitors.
4. More towels could be provided to the guests. Two towels at least. I asked Mario for towel and he provided.
5. There is no laundry in the villa. You have to arrange this with Mario. He picked up on Saturday and dropped off on Tuesday. Just so you are aware.
Enjoy your stay. Savusavu is so beautiful, and the area where this rental property is located is absolutely stunning. Fiji people are very friendly and I will have pleasant memories from my stay. All the best to you.
My recent stay at Korevesi Sunshine Villas was only out shined by the hospitality of my hosts, Mario and Tatiana. I stayed in the house which was well appointed, comfortable and just oh-so relaxing. It provided the privacy and peace I craved. Aside from a couple of burnt out bulbs, that Mario immediately replaced, the place was in really good repair, including all the appliances.
As hosts Mario and Tatiana went far above and beyond, to include providing a complementary loaner cell phone-a real tourist luxury. They were also a real font of absolutely invaluable information. Savusavu is not the type of tourist destination where you're bombarded with information (one of the great charms of this island), you have to figure some things our for yourself and they made it very easy.
It also spoke volumes that in a town where literally everyone knows everyone, I only heard glowing reviews.
i am a solo female traveler in her 30s who recently stayed with mario and tatiana for 8 days.. they were like my young, fun adoptive parents who took really good care of me during my vacation, while still giving me my space to enjoy myself as i pleased
....caring things like giving me a cellphone to use for taxi rides and always asking if i needed a ride into town when they were going and inviting me to dinner at their house.. and then cool things like making sure i had plenty of peace and quiet during the day by my private hilltop pool when i was not out on an adventure and giving me snorkel gear that a previous guest had left behind
before my trip, mario was very, very responsive via email, giving me great suggestions for diving and activities before i even booked with him.. while i was there, he arranged for me to go out with "the boys" and learn handline fishing and fuji-fuji, which is a fijian style of fishing using a chicken feathers on a hook.. it was one of funnest/coolest experiences of my life and that's saying a lot considering how extensively i have traveled the past 15 years
the price to stay with them is unbeatable.. all units are huge, airy, clean, well-appointed and built with high quality materials.. the price should have been triple just for the view alone
one thing to note: this property is challenging to access.. as a very fit and active person, i found the hike up the steep hill extremely difficult and well worth the $10 cab ride.. the tradeoff/upside is that this means you will enjoy the most quiet and relaxing vacation of your life there with absurd views
definitely go to the waterfalls with radnesh, their dedicated cabbie.. he is a cool friendly guy and good friends with the chiefstress's daughter who will take you onto the village land, which makes for a much less touristy experience than other visitors probably experience..
i also requested dinner to be made on the property each night.. delicious and convenient after a long day in the sun.. very happy that this was an option
ocean people, dive through koro sun dive and snorkel at split rock
i couldn't recommend this place highly enough.. i hope i can come back to stay with mario and tatiana every year..vinaka again for the best vacation of my life!!
The world is a big place and there are so many places I would like to travel to, but there is something about Savusavu Fiji, also called the hidden paradise of Fiji) that keeps me coming back for more...The diving (Namena!!), the people, the weather, the views......My first trip to Savusavu was Nov of 2012 and I had such an amazing time staying at the Villa Vanilla that I booked another holiday here again with my fiancé Aug of 2013. Savusavu is relatively untouched and you feel like you are truly away from the rest of the world. And staying at one of Korovesi's sunshine rentals (there are about 4 different accommodations on this land) you feel like you are on top of the world. I have stayed at the Villa Vanilla as well as the Villa Vanilla II and both are everything i could ask for in a rental, and more. The studio's are very modern, clean, full kitchens, pool, but the views are what make it truly the best place in Savusavu to stay, especially at the price they are rented for! Don't let the description that they are 'cheap' fool you...from a cost perspective they are extremely inexpensive but they are far from cheap in the sense that you get what you pay for....they are paradise and luxurious and you will never want to leave at an insanely reasonable price! I would be willing to pay double or triple the amount to stay here. The villas are about a 10 minute drive into town and about 15 minutes away from the Savusavu airport. There is the nicest taxi driving named Ratnesh who will be your own personal taxi while you are there (and has a 4 wheel drive to get you up and down the steep road up to the villas...the villas are high on top of a hill which provides the amazing views) or you can rent a car for a reasonable price. I have a feeling this will not be my last time staying in Savusavu which is called the hidden paradise. And i will be seeing Mario and Tatjana again soon!
We stayed in the Blue Banana for about five weeks. For us, the great highlights were the surround balcony overlooking the beautiful gardens and below, the spectacular Savusavu bay. We were constantly entertained by the birds and the bats and the many small tropical critters. We loved how the doors would fold back to give a seamless indoor/outdoor experience. The mornings sipping tea and reading and the sunset dinners on the deck were simply fantastic and romantic. Lots of privacy, cooling breezes, great wi-fi, and fans indoors made for comfortable sleeps. Neat rainfall shower. And we loved the swimming pool, only a short walk from Blue Banana...especially on hot days and after the walk up the hill. And maid service too!
Downsides, if you can think of these as downsides: no barbecue, no oven, the strenuous steep walk up the hill to Blue Banana from the public road, approximately 5 kilometres to town. For us these were not issues since we were easily able to prepare great meals in the well appointed kitchen. For those days when we did not feel like cooking, a local Fijian woman would prepare an excellent meal brought to our place for a very reasonable price (arranged by Tatiana.) The hill was excellent exercise for us, especially with the pool waiting for us at the top. There was a bus service to Savusavu on the public road (we loved meeting the school children and local residents.) As well, Mario had arranged a special taxi rate from a local driver. If you wish to rent a vehicle, Mario can point you to the lowest cost supplier in town. Tatiana and Mario are a wonderful source of information about Savusavu and Fiji and are generous with the bounty from their beautiful garden. We enjoyed many fruits, eggplants, and chills from the garden.
It was unfortunate that the famous Split Rock and Cousteau resort corals were negatively affected during the past year by crown of thorns starfish. However, by accessing Korosun Dive (as recommended by Mario) for diving and snorkelling we were able to enjoy healthy, vibrant world class reef and underwater. And despite our disappointment in the local corals, we were still able to enjoy fun snorkels nearby with recovering corals, many diverse fish, and even a huge moray eel, a white-tip reef shark and even a shallow water nudibranch.
One tip for arriving guests without their own transport. Pick up some initial groceries on your way from the airport to the Villas.
Tatiana and Mario, thank you.
