|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Our airy and modern one-bedroom guest unit is located in the Silver Lake hills of Los Angeles. It is a hillside garden apartment, with our owner-occupied house above. (Because of the hillside, stairs are required to access the unit.)
The unit offers reserved, off-street parking for our guests' car and a separate entrance for total privacy. It has been renovated floor to ceiling and features a living room, compact kitchen, bedroom, and full bath, as well as beautiful cork and marmoleum flooring and roman shades with black-out linings. The furnishings are mid-century with a modern touch.
Perfect for two, and cozy for four, the location is ideal for a stay in Los Angeles. The Silver Lake reservoir, Los Feliz, Dodger stadium, Hollywood, Universal Studios, and downtown are minutes away, as is Griffith Park, with its trails, famous observatory, golf course, zoo, museums, train rides, and playgrounds. A great hotel alternative to anyone coming to Los Angeles for business or pleasure.
Inside the apartment:
THE KITCHEN includes a gas range, sink, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster oven, as well as ample cooking equipment, dishes, glasses, cutlery and even cookbooks for inspiration.
THE LIVING ROOM includes a full-sized comfort sleeper pull-out couch, easy chair, flat-screen television (with DirecTV, Roku Box, DVD player, and streaming Netflix), desk area (with plenty of Los Angeles visitors' guides), and a fold-out dining table that holds dinner for three. Also available for our guests are an array of books, games, CD player and IPod dock. High-speed WIFI is included.
THE BEDROOM features a queen bed with organic linens, sizable closet with full-length mirror, dresser, vintage vanity, and generous library of books. It is large-enough to accommodate a pack-n-play or crib as well.
THE BATH features luxurious 800-gram organic towels, full tub, sink, and toilet.
Just outside the apartment’s door is a sizable slate patio decorated with flowering plants and citrus trees. Lounge chairs, a cafe set, outdoor heat lamp, and a gas grill is available for your use. Our shared garden and 600-square foot deck is just beyond, with chaise longues and a table with seating for 8. The view is trees and hillsides, with downtown's skyline in the distance and city lights at night.
A grocery, pharmacy, banks, and a number of restaurants and shops are all in walking distance, as is the Silver Lake reservoir. We do recommend a car, and with it, you’ll have easy access to the 2, 5, 134 and 101 freeways.
We live above, and are typically around to provide directions, restaurant and attraction suggestions, and anything else we can help with. Parents: we are happy to provide a portable crib, high chair, and we can offer advice on local attractions resources for parents and children, including a referral for bonded, professional babysitters.

David A purchased this apartment in 2006
Nestled in the hills outside of downtown, Silver Lake is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Los Angeles. It's quirky, artsy, and hip, in a great location whether you're an urban explorer or like the quieter side of things. Our house was built in 1908, but the apartment was just renovated top to bottom, so it offers both charm and modern convenience!
David and Heather were warm, welcoming hosts! The guest house is a private, well-situated apartment space on their property - perfect for those looking for a home-base in a cool neighborhood of LA. The house is well-appointed with everything you would need or have staying in a hotel. A great experience, would definitely recommend!
This apartment was my home for 7 nights. It was clean and well kept, and the owners were exceptionally kind, friendly, and accommodating. Thanks you so much!
Thankyou David and Heather for a best location property. We were impressed with everything about your house. Being our first time overseas and experience with VRBO we are hooked on this type of holiday rental. The property was exactly as described and we thank our hosts for their friendly directions around the area. We made it across the USA on Route 66 but will long be impressed with the beautiful LA experience. We hope to return one day but in the meantime will be recommending our stay in a beautiful part of the world.
This was our first experience with a vacation home rental and we were pleasantly surprised. Our main criteria for a vacation home was a family friendly spot which was safe and convenient to sightseeing destinations in LA. First and foremost, David and Heather were wonderful hosts. David was very prompt in responding to any questions via email as well as accommodating our requests for a high chair and pack 'n' play. The rental was clean and well stocked with linens as well as small cooking/medicinal/incidental items you inevitably forget to pack. The pictures do not do the deck and garden area justice! It beautifully kept and our 2 boys had a blast playing with the shared toys/tricycles. We did not make extensive use of the Roku, DirectTV or DVDs but there was plenty to keep everyone entertained. I did sleep on the pull out sofa and had no complaints in terms of comfort. When we visit LA in the future, we will not hesitate to return.
We stayed here for a long weekend during a conference in Los Angeles. We had the most relaxing time in this beautiful 1 bedroom. It was fantastic, quiet, well furnished and the owners were some of the nicest people we've met. David and Heather were a pleasure to talk to and meet. They were wonderful hosts and we felt like we were home in a great location. if you are thinking about staying here my advice, do it!
David and Heather's charming property in Silver Lake was just what we had on mind when we planned to stay in the area for 10 days to visit family and friends. The apartment was exactly as described: clean and well-appointed with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The location was great and, because we didn't have a car, we were able to walk to restaurants and coffee shops and stores. Having the beautiful Reservoir and park within walking distance was a perk, too. Full disclosure: Silver Lake is quite hilly, so prepare to give your legs a workout if you plan to do any walking. Of course, that's part of its charm! Thank you to Heather and David for your hospitality.
I stayed for a week and was completely happy. It was quiet, comfortable and just what you would expect from a place in LA up in the hills. The garden areas around the house are terrific and so beautiful. I enjoyed fresh oranges and lemons right off the trees on the deck. Delicious! The owner was very helpful, even carried my bags up and down the terraces for me. The apt is stocked with wonderful books about Los Angeles, Hollywood and other areas of California. Good stuff.
I would definitely recommend this apt.
The Silver Lake area of Los Angeles sits between downtown and Hollywood, near Los Feliz and Echo Park. Silver Lake is known for its modernist residential architecture (Neutra, Schindler, and Lautner houses are common sights), its artistic denizens, and the reservoir for which it is named.
It is one of Los Angeles' hillside neighborhoods, which offer great hiking. shopping, and people watching opportunities.
Here's what Forbes Magazine said about Silver Lake, when it recently named it 'America's Best Hipster Neighborhood' : 'Nestled between Echo Park and Los Feliz, the trendy community boasts some of the nation's most lauded food trucks and farmers markets, a multicultural blend of residents with eclectic professions, and a booming arts scene. Even the buildings exude an avant garde aesthetic a hipster could love: Silver Lake is home to some of the most celebrated modernist architecture in the country, including Richard Neutra's VDL Research House and John Lautner's Silvertop.'
