I am originally from York, north of England, but have lived in California for nearly 20 years now. I have spent 12 years here on the beautiful Mendocino coast developing this exquisite property into my dream 'little English' escape and feel very fortunate to be able to share my dream with others.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions at all regarding the property :).
Beach: 3+ minutes by car, approx 20 mins by foot, approx 10 mins jogging.
By car: 8 minutes to the historical town of Fort Bragg, 20-25 minutes to the historical town of Mendocino. The beach is seconds away from the end of Airport Road where it meets HWY 1, you can either choose to park at a public car park which gives you access to the Haul road and a trail which meanders north to the beaches, rock pools, fishing/diving spots and headlands or south which takes you over the historic Pudding Creek Trestle Bridge (recently renovated) and over the headlands to the famous Glass beach. Alternatively you can park at Pudding Creek beach (where the creek meets the sea) and have direct access to the beach - the creek is more like a river and a lot more safer than the ocean for little ones to paddle in.
Situated on the end of a very private lane (off Airport Road), in an extremely safe and quiet neighborhood in the center of 3+ acres surrounded by trees and meadows - not a neighbor in sight. Loads of space for kids to run around and if you have dog(s) great to throw sticks a long long way. There is a croquet set, badminton net and rackets for outdoor fun. For fun family/romantic outdoor evenings there is a 8' by 8' hot tub (extra cost) situated off the south deck and a fire pit situated on the patio for warmth and to toast marshmallows.
There are two ponds for your enjoyment that I am pleased to say are not easily accessed by children.
Feeling adventuress?, you can even take a walk in the surrounding woods.
Every first Friday of the month Fort Bragg has what they call 'First Friday', whereupon the galleries/book shops open there doors late for locals and guests get to preview new books and art and very generously offer free finger food and sometimes wine.
If you are looking for privacy, peace and an escape from everything yet need to pop to the beach/town/store this is, perhaps the place for you :)
I purchased this property ultimately for privacy, space, and it is a very safe and friendly neighborhood. It has abundance of nature, wildlife and more importantly an escape from the coastal fog (that's not a promise though as she sometimes visits). Not a neighbor in sight. It's especially pleasurable to sit by the pond or on the main south facing deck drinking morning coffee or afternoon wine spritzers:). I love the layout because it has an open kitchen to the huge south facing 31' x 18' great room - perfect for entertaining. Overall the house has so much character, warmth and space and the surrounding grounds that offer plenty of meadow area for outdoor activities along with a perimeter woodland that adds total privacy.
PEACEFUL! Is only the first word to describe Wendy's house. My hubby and I wanted a place to celebrate our 25th anniversary where we could enjoy having our kids and our dogs. Oh, we found the place. Plenty of room for the 7 people and our dogs. There is a dining table to accommodate up 12 people with gorgeous dishes including wine and champagne glasses (bring your own martini glasses). A wonderful 5 burner stove with a huge oven and nicely stocked kitchen (utensils, coffee pot, microwave, toaster, etc.) . We spent many nights under the stars around the fire pit (bring your own wood) with plenty of chairs and two tables outside on the patio. To me the furniture, claw foot bathtubs and bed coverings give it a romantic harem like felling. Love that there was an oil heater and didn't have to deal with feeding a fireplace. Wendy is such an awesome and adorable person. She met us at the house with music on and a box of chocolates on the table. Told us to text her if we needed anything as she lives close and had no problem coming to our aid when we needed her. I can't say enough about this house but if you want a secluded, beautiful, peaceful, comfortable place to stay...this is it! Most relaxing vacation my honey and I have had in 6 years. Thank you Wendy for allowing us to enjoy your place. I am looking forward to the next chance we got to stay.
AMAZING! Such a beautiful property to rent for a long weekend, and the owner Wendelain is even more amazing!
As stated in previous reviews – pictures just do not do it justice.
Arriving to the property at dusk, the fire already going, we called Wendelain and she met us right away to show us the ropes. Everything was clean and tidy, well stocked and we felt right at home.
She provided us with some restaurants ideas and great wines we might be interested in…and we loved them both!
There was plenty of room for all of us, the bedrooms are spacious, large dinning room table and the kitchen has everything you may need. From the outdoor fire pit with seating, to the large Jacuzzi and wonderful gardens with out door lighting….The ONLY thing you are left longing for…is MORE time here. We will definitely be coming back to visit the Redwood Manor! THANK YOU for sharing Wendelain
The Redwood Manor is a lovely retreat. It is warm, cozy, beautifully furnished and Wendelaine is a delightful hostess. Were were starving when we arrived late in the evening. Wendelaine not only had a fire going, soft music playing and chocolates waiting for us, she was kind enough to let us know that Round Table delivers! What a treat and a relief! The bed was so comfortable we slept like angels. The shower was great. The kitchen was well stocked. The hot tub was awesome. The Manor is beautiful, clean and obviously well loved. We watched 5 deer grazing while we sat drinking our tea in the comfy living room. What more could we ask for? More stays at the Redwood Manor! I will definitely recommend this to friends and family. Thank you so much Wendelaine!
We had a group of 8 stay at the manor and couldn't have had a more comfortable stay. The beds were amazing and there was plenty of room for everyone. I really appreciate how responsive Wendelain was to our questions and requests. The property is extremely private and peaceful and sitting in the private hot tub and using the outdoor fire pit were two of our favorite things. Some of us are abalone divers so we had a big feast one night and the large dinning table was perfect for a large group. It really was a wonderful weekend and would gladly stay here again.
We rented Redwood Manor for to stay at along with friends and family while we were in town for our wedding. The pictures online do not do it justice! Not only is the inside elegant and cozy, the setting is quiet, private, relaxing, and tranquil. The house is well stocked with everything that we needed. The guests had an amazing time. The beds were soft and comfortable, we all slept very well. The location is close to the beach, the house is gorgeous, and we would definitely stay there again. When booking online, you never know how it will turn out. Redwood Manor exceeded expectations. The owner was prompt in replying to us, courteous and friendly and answered all of our questions without delay. We look forward to booking again to spend our future anniversaries there.
Our stay was wonderful, beyond expectation!! The house and property are so comfortable, so inviting, and so akin to our aesthetics; we actually changed the dates of our vacation in order to stay at the Manor. The photos can hardly do justice to the beauty and space provided here. The bedrooms are very comfortable, and the yard outside if huge and gorgeous and well-maintained. The owner is so kind and considerate; so quick to respond and so helpful! Thanks for everything, we will never forget it!
