REDWOOD MANOR-PRIVATE HEAVENLY RETREAT, 3+ACRE, 3+MINS TO BEACH :-)

Fort Bragg Chateau / Country House Rental Photos and Description

Private, Acreage, Historic, Certified Wildlife Preserve, Escape coast fog

Certified Wildlife Habitat site.

Private, secluded, country setting. Escape the crowds and fog. 360 degree woods, redwoods. Wildlife, small ponds, meadows and night stars.

Rustic/historic architecture. Renaissance/antique style. 8 mins to historic town of Fort Bragg, 25 mins drive to historic town of Mendocino. Hot tub (additional fee), fire pit. barbecue. Huge great room with open plan kitchen, perfect for family get together's. Disabled, handicapped, wheelchair, child & pet friendly :)

This property is the ultimate retreat from everything, situated at the end of a very safe and private country road on 3+ acres on the periphery of the fog belt. Perfectly and conveniently situated minutes from the beach and town.

Endowed with beautiful views of meadows, woods, majestic redwood trees and 2 small ponds over looked from the back west deck/kitchen window. Presenting total seclusion and a calm and tranquil ambiance, especially in the evening when one can relax in the hot tub, gaze at the stars and listen to the distant ocean waves, frogs and crickets (additional cost - seems unfair to include it in the nightly rate because not everyone wishes to use it).

Re: Hot tub - Mendocino County is suffering from great water shortages at the moment, lowest level of rainfall in this area on record for 77yrs. I therefore feel that under the circumstances, the hot tub may or may not be available. It will all depend on the amount of rainfall we get this year, to be determined.

There are two hot tub places, one in Fort Bragg called the bamboo garden spa: http://www.bamboogardenspa.com/, and also a private & communal spa in Mendocino: http://www.sweetwaterspa.com/tubs.shtml (both on city water)

Happy to say, no poison oak :).

Circular driveway that has numerous parking places. Huge wraparound south and west facing deck and patio; superb for entertaining with landscaping that attracts numerous species of birds, butterflies, dragonflies, deer and wild geese that fly over in a flock twice a day.

The [Home] is [predominantly] built [with] old beams salvaged from the [historic] Georgia Pacific Mill presenting a rustic and relaxing environment - . Huge vaulted ceilings on both floors with upper bedrooms having the 'Romeo & Juliet' shutters which overlook the 31ft living room.

Kitchen:

The kitchen is perfectly situated for entertaining off the living room and features a 5 burner 36' European stove, unique hand made concrete sink, granite counter tops and is equipped with all modern stainless steel appliances.

Bathrooms: 2 full

Master downstairs bathroom

Tastefully adorned with custom tiled walk in jetted shower, his/hers porcelain and carved sinks, a claw foot tub, wc all with matching polished nickel fixtures.

Upper story bathroom:

Victorian style with claw foot tub, single sink and wc

accessed by 2 upper bedrooms.

Great Room:

Dramatic 31' by 18' living room/dining room with additional open plan kitchen. South facing arched windows that overlook the very private deck, meadow and a plethora of a variety of trees and landscaping. Roaming deer, wild rabbits, squirrels, owls, wild turkey, humming birds, dragonflies etc.. inhabit the property.

Living Room has an Effel oil burning stove - no hassle heat, 2 couches, + pull-out couch, dining room table and chairs enough to accommodate a large family/friends. Features a 42' plasma HDTV, Dish Network satellite, Blue ray player, wireless internet and ipod landing.

I am originally from York, north of England, but have lived in California for nearly 19 years now. I have spent 11+ years here on the beautiful Mendocino coast developing this exquisite property into my dream 'little English' escape and feel very fortunate to be able to share my dream with others.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions at all regarding the property :).

Beach: 3+ minutes by car, approx 20 mins by foot, approx 10 mins jogging.

By car: 8 minutes to the historical town of Fort Bragg, 20-25 minutes to the historical town of Mendocino. The beach is seconds away from the end of Airport Road where it meets HWY 1, you can either choose to park at a public car park which gives you access to the Haul road and a trail which meanders north to the beaches, rock pools, fishing/diving spots and headlands or south which takes you over the historic Pudding Creek Trestle Bridge (recently renovated) and over the headlands to the famous Glass beach. Alternatively you can park at Pudding Creek beach (where the creek meets the sea) and have direct access to the beach - the creek is more like a river and a lot more safer than the ocean for little ones to paddle in.

Situated on the end of a very private lane (off Airport Road), in an extremely safe and quiet neighborhood in the center of 3+ acres surrounded by trees and meadows - not a neighbor in sight. Loads of space for kids to run around and if you have dog(s) great to throw sticks a long long way. There is a croquet set, badminton net and rackets for outdoor fun. For fun family/romantic outdoor evenings there is a 8' by 8' hot tub (extra cost) situated off the south deck and a fire pit situated on the patio for warmth and to toast marshmallows.

There are two ponds for your enjoyment that I am pleased to say are not easily accessed by children.

Feeling adventuress?, you can even take a walk in the surrounding woods.

Every first Friday of the month Fort Bragg has what they call 'First Friday', whereupon the galleries/book shops open there doors late for locals and guests get to preview new books and art and very generously offer free finger food and sometimes wine.

If you are looking for privacy, peace and an escape from everything yet need to pop to the beach/town/store this is, perhaps the place for you :)

I purchased this property ultimately for privacy, space, and it is a very safe and friendly neighborhood. It has abundance of nature, wildlife and more importantly an escape from the coastal fog (that's not a promise though as she sometimes visits). Not a neighbor in sight. It's especially pleasurable to sit by the pond or on the main south facing deck drinking morning coffee or afternoon wine spritzers:). I love the layout because it has an open kitchen to the huge south facing 31' x 18' great room - perfect for entertaining. Overall the house has so much character, warmth and space and the surrounding grounds that offer plenty of meadow area for outdoor activities along with a perimeter woodland that adds total privacy.

Inviting Hideaway!

Our family spent 4 days together on a mini vacation in this cozy home. We arrived to find a warm and inviting house with wonderful soft music playing; it was instantly relaxing after a 5 hour drive! Wendelain came over soon after our arrival and explained all the details of the kerosene stove and how to operate the oven in the kitchen. She thought of every detail throughout the house, including fresh flowers on the dining table and a box of chocolates waiting for us! This home away from home is very private, has a wonderful garden and is surrounded by large trees. If you're looking for a quiet escape, this is the place!

Amazing House!

This house is amazing. The rooms were beautifully decorated and the upstairs had windows over looking the bottom; it was so much fun for everyone. The owner was very accommodating, welcoming and helpful. She left us with more then we needed, in the best of ways, and was very very sweet. She gave us a tour and explained everything so well. There were games, and toys for outside. We spent hours paying badminton!
Overall our experience was perfect. We were close to the beach where we could play in tide pools, and the time we spent just hanging out in the house was fun. The kitchen was beautiful and after dinner you could stroll through the trees and look at the fish in the pond RIGHT OUTSIDE! It was amazing.

Cozy and homey house and gardens

Redwood Manor is the perfect place to stay if you want an affordable, private and cozy house that sleeps 6 to 8 comfortably (assuming a couple of the beds are shared). We were there on a very cold weekend but the kerosene heater warmed the whole house. It was a little smaller than we imagined, but the garden and deck were very pleasant to sit out on. Wendy was a wonderful hostess and even returned some beads that had great sentimental value when i left them there.

Owner's Response: Thank you kindly for taking the time to write a lovely review. I am very sorry that I was unable to accommodate 7 individual people in 7 separate beds. I very much appreciate your comments regarding my property and thanks again :-)

Wonderful weekend!

My husband and I had our friends come up here and stay for the weekend so that we could have a commitment ceremony in Russian Gulch. Wendy was amazing, warm and a great host; she helped in every way that she could, getting us firewood and making sure the hot tub was running well and finding places for our extra guests to stay and the whole weekend was just wonderful. The house is even more beautiful than it looks in the photos. We were sad to leave it at the end of the weekend and will definitely come back to stay as it was just such a warm, perfect time for us. No words could do it justice!

Wonderful Escape!

We rented Redwood Manor to get our family together to celebrate our marriage. The location was perfect! It was exactly as we hoped it would be. It was secluded and serene without being too far away from the beach, the town and stores. The area around the house was beautiful and provided a lovely back drop for pictures with the family and it was dog friendly!!! The house was comfortable and clean. It was also equipped with everything we needed. Once we turned the lights out we were able to enjoy the meteor shower and see so many stars! We loved it! We didn't even spend much time in town because we had everything we needed at the rental. In town we did pass a brewery and many restaurants and shops. The beach is just a short car ride away from the rental.
The owner is wonderful. After a long and winding drive in she made us feel so welcomed with a cozy fire burning in the living room and music. It was exactly what we needed. She even let us unload a few things and get settled before going over safety and appliance instructions. She's wonderful and was able to answer our questions during the rest of our stay. I would definitely recommend this property to a friend or relative and I do hope that we'll be visiting again soon.
