My girlfriend and I spent a week at the Sapphire Beach condo and had an excellent time. To roll over every morning and look out the patio windows to a spectacular view was a wonderful feeling. The combination of beach and pools was perfect. Being so near the upper pool was an ideal set up. The condo had everything we needed for our stay, and Kathy filled us in with valuable info about the island. I highly recommend the condo for complete rest and relaxation. The hilly terrain kept us fit for the week! The only flat spot on the Island is the bar!

My husbund and I had a great time! Your close to Redhook (walking) The open air bus will pickup at the street (only $2.00) to town. They just started a BBQ area at the end of the village rd $13.00 all you can eat! Great chicken & BBQ ribs. The beach is fantastic!!! The weather is great. The apartment was good, real close to the pool. What more can you ask for!!! Denise J

Christmas Vacation

Thank you Kathy and Mark!! This was one of the best vacations we have had! The pictures are exactly what we experienced. Of course being there in person was better! The weather was amazing! The condo was updated and comfortable. On the same level as the upper pool which was great! The happy hour at the Sapphire Grill was great as well. $2.00 bud and bud lights! We would walk over to Sapphire beach in the afternoon (not a long walk, maybe 5-10 minutes). Everyone at the complex was very nice and gave us alot of information. The information you provided us was priceless. Took the ferry over to St. John one day (highly recommend) and snorkeled at Trunk Bay. You can rent snorkel equipment for $5.00! One of the most beautiful beaches. From the condo there is a safari taxi you can take to Red Hook for $1.00 a person which is just down the hill and taxi back up which is usually $4.00 to $5.00 per person. You can also stay on the safari taxi and go into Charlotte Amalie for shopping for $2.00 a person. In Red Hook the best seafood was at Fish Tails and Duffy's Love Shack was another great happy hour spot. We would definitely come back and rent the condo! What a beautiful island!!! Thanks again! The condo was exactly as described and all that we needed. It is not a glamorous, or resort-like, but for those who are looking to truly explore the island it is perfect. There is a convenient bar and grill located on the property that we went to a few times because of utter exhaustion after long days of adventure. The best part is the proximity to the ferry. We spent half of our time in St. John relaxing on some of the worlds most beautiful beaches, and then came back to St. Thomas every evening to walk around Red Hook and get some dinner. It was really a blast and we are so happy the way this vacation went. We did not rent a car, which meant a lot of walking/hiking and open air bus riding but we wouldn't have had it any other way.

Beautiful island, decent condo

First of all, I want to say that we had a wonderful week-long vacation in the virgin islands. There is plenty to see and do, particularly if you enjoy being out on the water. We found St. John's to be a more lush and natural island and preferred to spend our days there while calling St. Thomas home for the week.

This condo on St. Thomas is in a nice location because of the proximity to Red Hook and the ferry terminal. However, the beach is a bit dilapidated and the resort itself has seen better days. Getting from the condo to the beach (or anywhere else) is a long walk down a steep hill, which makes the return trip less than desirable. The condo pictures are accurate, but they don't show enough detail to know that there are some items that need attention, such as: shower door comes off the hinges when opening or closing, air conditioner is very noisy and screen door has holes, and the bed creaks noisily. Moreover, what concerned us was that the back patio smelled like sewage, preventing us from spending any time with the patio door open. We ran the air conditioner constantly while we were in the condo but tried to spend as much time as possible out and about. About mid-way through the week, the unit suffered a mosquito infestation which was enough to make us move to the Marriott Frenchman's Reef. We called to notify the property owner of the concerns we had while we were there.

Kathy was very nice and helpful with giving us recommendations of things to do while we were there. This unit is a decent "home base" for a very fun and adventurous vacation, but leaves something to be desired.
Owner's Response: A few points of clarification are needed for any vacationer planning a trip to our unit in St. Thomas.
First of all, the "dilapidated" resort the vacationer mentions is not our complex but rather the Sapphire Beach Resort--we own a unit at Sapphire Village. We cannot speak to the condition of another complex. We know that Sapphire Beach is beautiful and continues to be rated highly on most any travel website.
Secondly, we did have a serious one-time issue during this vacationer's stay with the on-site sewage treatment system but we only learned about this 2 days after the vacationer called us to say they had moved to another condo elsewhere. (Our property manager indicated that the sewage system never had issues but for 2 days last month the staff worked round the clock to remediate the problem.) As owners who take pride in our unit and complex we always want to know if there is a problem when it occurs and not days later. We would have gladly refunded their payment if we had been called.
