Our modern 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom apartment is furnished and decorated to a high standard and will make a very comfortable base for your visit. Located in Tollcross, just on the edge of the Old Town and easy walking distance of the centre, this is an ideal place to stay when visiting Edinburgh.

Location

The apartment is just off Lothian Road where you will find a wide selection of cafes, bars, restaurants, pubs and bistros – something for everyone. Nearby you have a choice of grocery stores, including the famous British “Marks & Spencer”. Local shops including a traditional butchers, wine store and French Delicatessen are just round the corner. This is also an ideal location for anyone with business in the city’s financial district or visiting Edinburgh University.

Free Parking

We have an allocated underground parking space, which in Edinburgh is a huge bonus. Access to the Western Approach Road for an easy way in/out of Edinburgh is just off Lothian Road and allows you to be at the airport in less than ½ hour.

Accommodation

The interior is very comfortable with modern furnishings and fittings. It has the added benefit of an elevator which saves climbing stairs with your luggage or shopping.

- The lounge/dining room/kitchen area is bright and spacious with wood floors. The lounge area has a flat screen TV and comfortable sofas. The dining area has a table and chairs for 4 and is adjacent to the fully equipped kitchen. The kitchen has a “range style” gas hob, dishwasher and washer - all that you will need to make life easy while on vacation.

- Bedroom 1 has an en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath tub. The bathroom is fully tiled and has a heated towel rail and shaver point and comes with fluffy towels. The bed is a double size with luxury linens. Built in closets provide ample storage for all your belongings. This room overlooks the courtyard behind the property and has a small balcony.

- Bedroom 2 has a King bed (US Queen) with luxury linens and overlooks the garden courtyard.

- A full tiled Shower Room is accessed off the hallway. Again with a heated towel rail, shaver point and comes with fluffy towels.

Local transport

- Access to the local bus system is just round the corner from the apartment. This is a wonderful way of getting around Edinburgh - you would expect a bus to Princes Street within 5 minutes (there is even an iPhone App to give the real time position of the buses!).

- Haymarket train station is a 15 minute walk or a very short 5 minute taxi ride away.

- Waverley Station is a 25 minute walk or 8 minutes by taxi.

- Edinburgh airport is less than 7 miles from the apartment (see our external link to Google Maps below for the suggested route - and more local information).

About Margaret Paxton

This is the start of our dream! Andrew & I met while students in Edinburgh almost 30 years ago. We have always said we will return here one day after living and working in the South of England, Belgium and most recently in Virginia, USA. We bought this flat in 2010 as the first step in realizing our dream. We are waiting until our two boys finish University here in the US before we return. (Why UVA and not Edinburgh University we asked ourselves!) In the meantime we want to let others share our place and fall in love with Scotland and Edinburgh:)

We bought this apartment after months of watching the Edinburgh market. We loved the proximity to the city and the fact that it is modern (only 4 years old) so everything works and is efficient. Having an allocated parking space is a real bonus, the traffic wardens in Edinburgh are very quick, so getting a ticket is not difficult!

We aim to provide the best Scottish Hospitality Edinburgh can offer and want it to be a home from home (although we know it is much smaller than American standards), it will have everything you need to make your stay very comfortable.

Our apartment is within easy walking distance of Edinburgh Castle, Princes Street and the Royal Mile where you will find most of the major attractions. It provides a quiet place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas. This is a good base for day trips to Glasgow, St Andrews, Stirling and the Borders. Visit the one of 12 Edinburgh Festivals - Fringe, International, Books, Film, Art, Jazz and Blues to name just a few. Easy access to the local bus system and taxis if you don't want to walk. Just 25 minutes from the airport by car or taxi.

This was a wonderful apartment for our week stay in Edinburgh. The location is great, close to everything but situated in a quieter area. The owners thought of everything to make our stay comfortable and welcoming. The apartment is modern and very clean. We loved having two bedrooms so our daughter didn't have to sleep on a sleeper sofa. Most importantly, having reliable internet service was wonderful and it was a treat to have a phone service that allowed free calls back home. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to our friends.

Echo what all the other great reviews said. It is clear that the owner put a lot of thought into furnishing the apartment with exactly what we'd need to have a nice visit to Edinburgh. We did a good deal of cooking and found nothing lacking in the way of the kitchen or appliances. Location is good for walking access to the whole town and we had a great stay with our baby and another couple. Highly recommended.

The flat is really a luxury flat, we enjoyed staying in it for our 3 nights holiday and had found nothing to fault. We even had luck with the weather, so we did not actually spend much indoor :-) It is close to all kinds of amenities and also fairly near to the places to visit, so you can't really go wrong to choose this for accommodation in Edinburgh.

Great place for my family of 4. The apartment is fully furnished and extremely comfortable. It was nice to have the extra space so everybody could unwind and relax in between sight seeing events. It was definitely a luxury to have a place to cook and enjoy meals if we didn't want to go out.

We enjoyed 6 nights in Edinburgh just after Christmas and through the wonderful New Year's (Hogmany) celebration. Great access to everything from this location and easy to walk to Haymarket train station, Edinburgh Castle, Royal Mile, Princess Street, etc.

The only reason for 4 stars vs 5 is the price. It is very EXPENSIVE during the prime season. Wonderful owner who was available to answer any questions to insure that the stay in Edinburgh was great. All sorts of great tips on what to do in Edinburgh, brochures for all of the sights and great details for everything.

Thanks for making sure that the accommodations were perfect! We would definitely considering renting this place for a return visit.

This past summer we spent 9 weeks traveling through Europe and this apartment was an amazing find. It was one of the few that was up to American standards with nice size bathrooms, well equipped kitchen, and family room. The location was awesome we walked all over Edinburgh and rented a car (free parking garage) for day trips and golfing getaway. The owner was very helpful. We definitely would choose it again when we are in Edinburgh.
