Guestbook comments from the owner
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful cabin. Our 2 families with 5 kids combined had a fabulous weekend away from it all. The children so enjoyed exploring this property and spent more time outdoors than they did in. What a treat! We have already been planning our return. We were impressed at how thought out all the details are here. We all hiked to the top of the mountain and slid back down.

Thank you very much. We will not forget our weekend.

My prior experience as an award-winning publisher/editor of a parenting magazine, gave me lots of experience for evaluating and reviewing what makes a place truly 'family-friendly'.

My goal is to help you create a fun and relaxing experience that will give lasting memories for you, your family and friends.

From stocking the cabin with indoor and outdoor games, to gathering walking sticks, clearing a trail to the tree line for you to hike up the mountain, to providing binoculars.....your comfort and enjoyment are my top priority.

I want your visit to be one you will always remember.

And, I am not just an 'expert' in 'family-friendly' You will love the romance and ambiance that has been created for those special getaways. Top it off with my Romance Package -- a bottle of wine, chocolates and bath salts with natural essential oils will be there for you on your arrival to help you relax and feel the romance.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2010

When I first moved to North Carolina and began exploring the mountains, I fell in love with Madison County. Both the natural beauty and the beauty of the people who live and work here fills my heart with warmth.

There is so much to enjoy on this property. It is remote enough that you cannot see any neighbors, yet close to many area attractions and activities.

DISTRACTION-FREE GETAWAY

  • 4 of 5
We had an extended stay at the cabin in winter, while we were both finishing big work projects, and it was indeed perfectly quiet and without any distraction. Since our stay fell over Christmas, we got a tree, and at night, with the lights on and the fireplace lit and the snow falling, it was a lovely winter wonderland. One day we drove half an hour north and hopped on a piece of the Appalachian Trail, which is quite easily accessible from the cabin, and was a great walk. Driving to and from the cabin itself was full of mountain views and scenery in any direction. Even during a two months' stay, we didn't really have any problems, and I wouldn't expect anyone else to, either; in any case, for any small thing, the property owner was extremely responsive if we ever needed her.

Owner's Response: I am glad you enjoyed your stay, and were able to finish your work projects. The cabin and 7.5 acres property are perfect for a quiet 'back to nature' getaway and retreat. And when you want more, local activities and attractions are close enough to enjoy. Truly the best of both worlds - remote enough that you don't see neighbors, yet close enough to fully explore the area. I agree with you -- the mountain views and scenery, driving to and from the cabin, are wonderful. I can feel myself shift into relaxation every time we start getting close to the cabin.

FAMILY TIME

  • 5 of 5
Jean & Fred Cooper and family July 29 – Aug. 3, 2013

“We had a wonderful relaxing vacation with most of our family: two daughters, two sons-in-law, and five of our six grandchildren, from Ohio, Maine and Georgia.

Thanks for providing such a beautiful, welcoming place. It suited us and our tastes perfectly. Thanks for your attention to details and for your thoughtful preparation for children.

If we are ever able to pull off such a vacation again, we will check on this place first!

May God bless you and your family as you continue to provide a service of love and environmental stewardship for those seeking a short refuge in the mountains.”

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure to have your family gathering at my cabin. Very happy that you appreciated all the details I put into making my guests experience at my property a special and memorable time. I was very touched with your blessings, as I do feel this is a sacred sanctuary. I liked the way you put it: "as you continue to provide a service of love and environmental stewardship for those seeking a short refuge in the mountains.” What a sweet and treasured way to describe your experience - Thank You

CHARMING MOUNTAIN GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5
My family and I stayed in Chloe's cabin from July 2-July 8. We couldn't have asked for a nicer or prettier cabin and the views are amazing!! The pictures just don't do it justice. The cabin had everything we could have needed and more. And the mattresses (including all the futon mattresses) were so comfortable! The hiking trails all around the property were incredible and lightning bugs lit up the mountainside at nighttime. The cabin was a little out of the way but we didn't mind the beautiful drive through the mountains to get to where we wanted to go. All in all this was a fabulous cabin, beautiful location and probably the most well stocked cabin we have ever been to. (Chloe was even thoughtful enough to leave walking sticks, binoculars, and maps and folders about what to see and do, and many other little touches that made this place so wonderful). We will most definitely be staying at this cabin again in the very near future.

Owner's Response: Thank you for this great review! I am so happy you had such a wonderful time. I agree about the drive to the cabin -- it still takes my breath away every time. It is the best of both worlds -- remote enough that you really feel you are having a true mountain cabin experience -- yet close enough to explore the area's activities and attractions. I appreciate that you noticed the little things about the cabin, like the comfortable mattresses and how well-stocked I keep the cabin. I put a great deal of thought in my preparation for the cabin and property. My goal is to create a relaxing and enjoyable experience with treasured memories for my guests. Looking forward to having you back -- each season brings its own unique treasures and charm!

WRITER'S GETAWAY

Writer's Getaway
  • 5 of 5
I was looking for a place to escape. I needed a mountain home with a wood burning fireplace that would encourage a rugged and simple way of living. This retreat provided exactly what I was looking for. The drive to this location is magical in itself--a kind of transitional portal from bustling city life to a unique quiet countryside. Just around every tight turn along Hwy 209 is another picturesque countryscape, where handcrafted homes billow smoke from NC hardwoods that creep between mountainous valleys. The "butt-and-pass" construction style of the cabin is quite charming. Plenty of exposed wood to bring out that raw untamed feeling of being one with nature. The cabin sits at the bottom of a steep mountain grade which provides for a challenging hike to the top! However, if you want a terrific panorama view of Betsy's Gap then take a hike through the cow pasture just adjacent to the property. Great climbing trees! The cabin is equipped with fine amenities and excellent PIPING HOT showers. Downtown Hot Springs is only 15 miles away and has pretty good dining options, some well equipped hiking surplus stores, and immediate access to the Appalachian Trial. If you do decide to dine in Hot Springs, I recommend the Iron Horse Station--good food, great beer! This cabin would be the perfect retreat for a small family, romantic getaway, or best friend reunion. It's a great place to slow down and reflect. Bring a project, bring a good book, write a book, write a screenplay! This is definitely not the ideal place for playing video games or chatting it up on your cell phone. In fact, there is NO CELL SERVICE up here. There is WiFi in the cabin if you must connect to the Internet, which I found myself doing everyday.

Owner's Response: Jonathan, I am so happy you enjoyed yourself and that the cabin and property met your needs for your writer's getaway. I love the descriptive details you mentioned. Totally agree with you about the scenic drive up to the cabin -- it still takes my breath away, every time I come here. Just wanted to let future guests know that there is a land line phone at the cabin. Some cell services work here; everyone is welcome to use the land line phone at the cabin. Good luck Jonathan, with your writing projects. Hope to have you back at the cabin again.
