These quarters are not for everyone-only the most discriminating. This place is not for those who do not have an appreciation for fine furnishings. This place is not for those who just watch television and don't mind a cacophonous environment. This place is also not for those who, for whatever reason, are not impressed by breathtaking mountain views.
This place is for those who appreciate the finer things in life and enjoy a serene atmosphere in which to escape the treadmill of life. A superbly comfortable bed, a perfectly equipped kitchen, and a hammock on the deck complete the picture.
This property has it all; a well appointed, clean home with million dollar mountain views and a beautiful natural setting that is sure to please. All this within 10 minutes of both Blowing Rock and Boone! We especially enjoyed wildlife viewing while on the property. Joy and Charlie are the perfect hosts and strive to make your stay memorable and comfortable. We are sure to rent again.
This cottage didn't have to be so beautiful to be a great place to stay. It had us at quiet, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. Rockydale was so wonderfully insulated that it kept us totally secure the night the wind howled around the corners, and the heated floors and soft, gorgeous rugs allowed us to walk around in bare feet to look out at the blanket of snow we found in the stillness the next morning. The layout of the cottage is excellent. We were there for a week to celebrate our anniversary, and we appreciated the ever-changing views as we looked out across the huge deck to the hills, fall leaves, and romantic sunsets. The master suite has a luxurious bed, great bath with high-water-pressure shower, and an amazing walk-in closet. Having all our belongings out of the way, yet convenient, was very helpful.
When relatives stopped by for a night, we were all pleased with the amount of privacy we had. Their suite, complete with walk-in closet and their own nice bath, was separated from our room by the living room and by huge, heavy, antique wooden doors that made each couple feel that we were closing ourselves into our own castles for the night.
The kitchen and dining area had everything we needed — including all the basics for cooking. There was even a huge pantry to stash the groceries we bought in nearby Boone and Blowing Rock. Those two towns were close by for shopping and dining, the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway was only a few minutes away, and yet we were cozily settled-in at 4,000 feet above it all. There were plenty of hiking trails nearby, but the cottage was so inviting that most of the time we were content to watch the clouds roll across the hills.
For us, comfort was the top priority, and it was only as the days went by that we realized how much the beauty of the furnishings added to our experience. The owners of Rockydale have achieved something remarkable — coziness, comfort, and beauty all rolled into one charmer of a cottage in a beautiful location. We're so glad we didn't have to settle for a few of the things we enjoyed. This one had it all.
My wife and I are finishing 4 glorious weeks at Rockydale. The setting is beautiful with deer and wild turkey viewable from the rear deck where there is a garden and bee colonies with numerous mountain ridges in the background. The house is new like and extremely well equipped. The decor, finish of house and furniture, is a combination Eastern-Indian/NC-Mountain from their worldwide travels. Charles and Joy are wonderful people, totally unintrusive, warm, and very responsive to our needs. The location is fantastic for Boone and Blowing Rock and Price Park and Moses Cone. It's a winner!
Rockydale was a perfect retreat. No one looks for the same things in a vacation rental, but for me, Rockydale hit on all of my wishes and more. There are only one or two steps into the house which makes it great for carrying in luggage, groceries, etc. and for people with mobility issues. The living area and both bedrooms have a great view. I laid in bed one night and watched the lightening over the mountains - beautiful! The "deck" is the entire length of the back of the house and the center portion of the deck (off the living room) is covered, while the portions off the bedrooms are not covered. Photography opportunities are limitless. I have two sunset photos that absolutely do not do the "real" sunset justice! Although I only explored a little of the property, the hiking and exploring opportunities are limitless. The location is only about a five minute ride to Boone or Blowing Rock. I ziplined at Sky Valley Zip Tours and had a wonderful time! One important thing for me is a good mattress. The mattresses and linens were great, and I slept like a baby every night. Joy and Charlie made us feel welcome and were available if needed. There was nothing that we needed that was not in the cottage. I would definitely recommend Rockydale and hope to visit again soon!
Our stay at Rockydale was both restful and refreshing. We came to the Boone/Blowing Rock area from the South Carolina coast to escape the heat and humidity and get a change of scenery -- a long-standing tradition for those who live on the Carolina coast. The Rockydale cottage was comfortable, well-appointed and equipped, and our hosts were friendly and attentive to our needs, a great combination. The property is in a quiet setting away from area's highways but is conveniently located between Boone and Blowing Rock. You can get to either town in 10-15 minutes by car. We highly recommend Rockydale as a pleasant, convenient and well-appointed mountain retreat.
Rockydale Cottage is situated at 4000 feet elevation, in the center of a 13 acre parcel that joins 3000 acres of national park service land known as the Cone Estate. We live at the end of a private road that is secluded yet convenient to town. There are lots of activities and attractions to visit in the area. When you are ready for rest and relaxation, Rockydale is the place.
