This peaceful setting is complimented by its convenience to Blowing Rock and Boone. We are within five miles of the finest restaurants and shops in the High Country. The owners are from the area and have operated business here for many years. Charlie and Joy are happy to help you explore the High Country or plan any excursion. 'We love our guests and want them to have a great experience.'

The home is elegantly appointed with Persian Rugs, Antiques and and accessories to make your stay pleasurable. There are various architectural antiques collected on far travels incorporated into the homes design. The view overlooking open pasture with the distant mountains of Tennessee frames some fabulous sunsets. Join us at Rockydale for a perfectly restful vacation.

Surroundings: The cottage is situated in the center of 13 private acres which joins 3000 acres of protected National Park Land. We are located on the North side of the Moses Cone Estate just below the observation tower. The Cone Estate is a favorite place to ride horses, hike, and enjoy over 30 miles of groomed carriage trails. The Blue Ridge Parkway is only a few minutes away and it offers fabulous vistas along the 470 mile traverse of the Appalachian mountain range. There are many opportunities to explore the natural beauty of the High Country. We are happy to help you plan your stay and make the most of your visit to the area. Guests are welcome to explore the woods, commune with nature, or hike to the mountaintop from Rockydale Cottage.

Restaurants: The High Country Area is known as a fine dining mecca. There are a few five star restaurants and many more that should be considered for the designation. We are familiar with many restaurants and are happy to make recommendations.

Attractions: Grandfather Mountain, Tweetsie Railroad, The Blowing Rock, The Blue Ridge Parkway, Mystery Hill, The Frescoes of Glendale Springs, Horn in the West, Linville Caverns, Grandfather Vineyard, Art in the Park, The Ski Areas, Boone Golf Club, Numerous Art Galleries, and various theater and concert venues make the High Country a special place with lots to do. No matter how long you stay, there may not be enough time to take in all of the sights.

Beautiful vacation home; easily equal to 4-star class hotel

  • 5 of 5
  • Submitted: Feb 22, 2013
  • Stayed: Feb 2013
First-- I have to make this clear: when I say "4-star hotels," I'm talking REAL hotel class ratings... not reviewer opinion ratings. To put it into perspective, Rockydale equaled the **Presidential Suite** at the 4-star Hotel Marlowe (Cambridge, MA; easily one of the best experiences we've ever had) and was far (FAR!!) superior to the accommodations at the 4-star Le Meridien in Philly. I rated it 5 stars here as an experience rating... not hotel class.

When we arrived, the house was IMMACULATE. I mean SPOTLESSLY clean. Every detail in the home is incredibly well thought out... great design and beautiful furnishings. Just a gorgeous place. All new (looking) utensils and glass/tableware.

My only warning is to be wary of snow and severe temperatures, if they're in the forecast. The radiant heating wasn't quite up to the task one morning, when it was in the low teens overnight. The thermostat was reading 66° when we got up. It was pretty chilly, especially in the bedrooms, but we grabbed some blankets and lit the ventless gas logs. BTW, we didn't notice the house temp during the night AT ALL-- the beds were unbelievably comfortable and cozy. We all slept like rocks. (Seriously, the master bed was one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in).

The other warning is accessibility to the house during snow. I have a front-wheel drive SUV with chunky tires and with several nights of only maybe 3" total accumulation (powdery, not icy, thankfully), I was still able to make it in and out of the property. We never got stuck, but it did make for some "adventurous" excursions. Charlie was super gracious, offering to come pick us up in his 4WD, if we were to get stuck, but thankfully we didn't.

During our snowy weekend, lower elevations weren't a problem at all... just the higher roads, and especially if there is ANY ice or highly compacted snow and it's <20° outside. Everyone up there has 4WD for a reason. ;)

Despite that, we still had a great time. We wouldn't hesitate returning (during better weather). We had really hoped to hike the property, but at least we were able to get some skiing in!!

Thanks again, Charlie and Joy! You really know how to do rental property right!

Winter Wonderland Vacation!

We loved Rockydale Cabin and immediately felt comfortable and at-home. We will make this an annual trip for our family! The home is simply gorgeous in every way...no details were spared. It exceeded our expectations in every way! The pictures simply cannot do the cabin and grounds justice! The view is spectacular and the hill out front is perfect for sledding! The cabin in on acres of land only accompanied by the owners cabin, so it is perfect for a private get-away. No worries of traffic or noise outside your door. We were so happy and content to stay on the grounds and play in the snow all day (with the sleds provided by the owners) and warm by the fire place at night. We cooked almost every meal at the cabin because the kitchen was so nicely appointed and had everything we needed. If you do need supplies, there is a large, very clean WalMart Super Store within a 10-12 minute drive...we bought all ski bibs and boots there and they had a great selection! Our stay at Rockydale was simply perfect and the owners were wonderful!!

Fantastic Mountain Weekend

This house is gorgeous. The location is good too - a little ways away from the hussle and bussle, but it was no issue getting to either Blowing Rock or Boone in just minutes. The house is very well equipped with a great kitchen, and they have a nice grill on the deck too. The bed rooms are gorgeous and the bathrooms are so nice. We even got to do a little hiking on the property and got some amazing pictures. It certainly was a treat!

Our stay was wonderful! The house was beautiful and was tastefully decorated with beautiful antiques and persian rugs. The house was very inviting and cozy. Furnished with all the extras you need. The view of the mountains from the deck was great! The owners, Charlie and Joy, were very nice. The location was great, it felt like you were miles away from everyone yet you are only minutes from Boone and Blowing Rock. You will not be disappointed if you rent this.

We enjoyed everything about our stay. The home was very clean and beautifully decorated. Charlie and Joy were perfect hosts. They answered all of our questions and gave us great tips about places to visit and eat. We especially enjoyed Bass Lake and Storie Street Grille. Sitting on the deck watching the deer play was a treat for us. We will definitely return.
