The Perfect Getaway

My husband and I were looking for someplace private, romantic, off the beaten path, budget-friendly, and pet-friendly to celebrate our 1st anniversary together. No small feat in the Big Sur/Carmel area where average hotel rooms cost $300+ a night. However, we knew we found something special when we came across Rosehaven.
The property sits 4 miles directly off Hwy 1 in Carmel- down a windy road (not far from the Bixby Bridge and Rocky Point restaurant) that takes you deep into the Redwood forest. There are 2 cabins nestled down a long driveway even further in the forest. The cabins are within eye sight of each other but far enough away to offer some privacy.
The owners Doug and Donna were very friendly and welcoming. They gave my husband and I (and our pooch) a brief rundown on a few things, answered some questions about hiking, and after that, we didn't see them again.
The cabins have similar personalities but with different details: the Serenity cabin is further down the driveway and therefore a bit more private, while the Morning Lite sits higher above the ground and is quite bright & airy (we stayed in the Morning Lite cabin).
Everything was very clean and tidy when we arrived. I loved the personal details like all the candles (so pretty at night), tons of pillows, electric blanket, and local art. The sound of the bubbling brook outside was a nice touch too. The cabin came fully equipped with all the little things you might need- pots & pans, charcoal grill (bring your own briquettes!), coffee maker, towels, dog toys, and even bubble bath and bathrobes.
We felt like this place was a magical little oasis just for us. It was so quiet and majestic. It was far enough from the ocean that we felt like we really got to experience the Redwood Forest, but not far enough where we felt too far away to really explore Big Sur and the coast.
The outdoor bathroom was pure genius! What a fun and unique characteristic. Taking a bubble bath under the stars with a glass of wine was blissful. I can see how showering outside might be at bit chilly during winter months- but that just adds to the adventure.
The cherry on top was that it was pet friendly (but didn't smell pet friendly). We love to bring our pooch with us when we travel so that really sealed the deal for us (there are several dog friendly beaches nearby). We can't wait to return and luckily, because Doug and Donna have chosen to keep the cost low, we will be able to do that soon.
