One bedroom cabin remotely located in the Big Sur Coast Redwood Forest, yet only 25 minutes from Carmel shopping and 30 minutes from the Monterey airport and 25 minutes to the village of Big Sur. Cabin is located approximately 100 yards from paved, Monterey County maintained road.
No dirt roads to travel. Luxury rustic is the theme; complete kitchen and bath, outdoor clawfoot bathtub on the deck for ultimate relaxing. No phone or TV, but wireless internet is included in the rental (cell phone service is available through SKYPE).
The main attraction: intimate contact with Mother Nature. Massages, if desired, can be scheduled in advance with a masseuse or masseur from Esalen Institute. Great escape for busy, career-oriented folks; a place where you can really 'unplug.'
My boyfriend and I had decided to take a trip to Central California for his birthday and do some nature exploring on the coast and skydiving in Monterey. I found Doug's listing and from the first email he was very welcoming and informational.
When we got to the cabin we got there very late but he let us know how to get settled in and that we would meet him the next day. What a beautiful cabin, so simple and peaceful, exactly what we were looking for. Tucked away from the coast about 3 miles into the Redwood trees on a gravel road away from noise and people. The cabin inside had a fireplace with a futon in front of it, a full size bed, a small dining table and full functioning kitchen with a balcony overlooking the mountains and the trees below. My favorite was the outside bathroom on the balcony, it had a shower head, claw bathtub, and toilet- how invigorating to shower outside in the sun, looking out to the mountain range and the smell of the redwoods around you!!
During the nights the fireplace kept us warm, and the sound of the creek below sang us to sleep. In the morning it was beautiful to see the sunshine through the trees into the windows of the cabin. We made our breakfast and ate it on the balcony in the tree tops listening to the birds and the flowing creek below. After breakfast we met Doug and his adorable Golden Retriever, Sammy, and we chatted for about an hour, Doug is a very nice, happy and friendly guy. Afterwards we hiked down to the ravine and found a small tranquil waterfall we had our lunch by and enjoyed the nature around us. During the day we explored the coast line and took pictures of the sunset. Later that night when we got back to the cabin we made dinner with red wine and a bubble bath outside under the stars- it was a love story fantasy come true- This will be a trip never to forget!!
I've told all of my friends about the cabin and they are all jealous of the time we had. Thanks to Doug, Donna, and Sammy, we got just what we needed to get back to nature. Thank you so much for your kind hospitality! :)
When Doug emailed me that the place was available - even for just one night - I jumped at the chance to spend my birthday at this property. It did not disappoint. This cabin is one of the rare occasions where this posting does not even do the actual experience service. And Doug was god sent - recommending Nepenthe under a full moon for dinner. We only stayed one night but we certainly did take advantage of the outdoor tub and hammock and everything else the place has to offer. The temperature was perfect as well - not a hair stood up on my body nor did I break a sweat . . . this place was pretty much the womb. thank you Doug!
My wife and I travelled from Chicago to stay in the Serenity Cabin for our honeymoon. What a mistake. When we arrived, there were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, spider webs all over the walls and overall it seemed that nobody had even made an attempt at cleaning the cabin before our arrival. When we opened the front door, there were dead bugs on the door and the front screen door had holes in it (not ideal when you're in the woods). We walked in, and literally turned right around and went somewhere else. If you are hoping to have a clean and livable cabin to stay in, I strongly suggest you pay the extra bucks to go somewhere else. Also the other cabin was not far enough away. The website makes it seem like they are worlds apart but in reality it's very close and not as private as it seems. Considering we arrived to stay a week for our honeymoon, we were beyond disappointed - we couldn't even fathom spending a night in this place.
My husband and I stayed 3 nights in the MorningLite cabin. Rustic yet very clean and comfortable with all windows. It is very private and has all of the provisions you would ever need. It is so quiet you could hear a pin drop...surrounded by nature and the sounds of the creek below from the deck, I have never been so relaxed in my entire life.
Doug is such a nice guy and very helpful, but after check in your privacy is of the utmost concern here. The bed is the most comfortable bed we have ever stayed in through our many years of travel up and down the coast. The tub outside has plenty of hot water since both cabins are on separate water sources. Our favorite spot was on the futon, which was perfectly situated in front of the fireplace, where we sat, drank wine, read and talked.
A must see is the waterfall, which is spectacular while hiking there and has a very spiritual feeling when there. Only people who live on Palo Colorado road know about this place and Doug has an excellent map, along with signs and yellow flags helping you find the way. He now has a beautiful plaque nailed to a tree next to the waterfall in honor of his Dad which signifies his forever love of nature and life.
While hard to leave the cabin we ventured out to visit the Ripplewood Resort restaurant one morning for breakfast and the food and service was excellent! The next day we visited the Redwood Grill at the Fernwood Resort for the 49er game as my husband is a fanatic and couldn't miss that losing game, unfortunately, but we found the place to be a very friendly and fun place with great drinks. If you like smoked meats the food is for you. They prepare all of their meats on site.
The cabins are pet friendly and it is so nice to be able to bring your entire family, but make sure your pet is well behaved, looked after, and responds well to voice commands, as the cabins are on a hill with a few areas that drop to the forrest, so if they aren't use to being off leash bring one. Doug and Donna's new addition is well trained and cute and friendly as ever!
Of all of the accommodations in the Big Sur area, Rosehaven Cabins is by far the most remote and price friendly place to go. Please give them a try as you won't be disappointed.
Thanks Doug, Donna, and Sammy for making this trip our most memorable!

I love this place. Doug and Donna are absolutely wonderful hosts, and very helpful on ideas of outings. I brought my dog, and there is lots of nature here to explore. The cabin is very comfortable and the view is amazing. I will be back again and again.
My wife and I spent four nights in Serenity recently and had an absolutely wonderful stay. The cabin was what we expected - charming, a rustic and relaxing and most importantly - off the beaten path. We woke up to morning light filtering through the translucent roof, had breakfast on the deck amongst coastal redwoods, found the creek and waterfall below the cabin, and set off on daily adventures up and down the coast. My wife loved ending each day with a soak in outdoor cast iron tub! The location couldn't be better suited for exploring Carmel and Big Sur. The property owners were fantastic, both through email and upon arrival, we would certainly recommend this location to family and friends. We will most definitely return for another visit.
