About Lee Griffiths

I escaped Washington DC ten years ago and spent two winters skiing all over the world. Having skied 50+ resorts, Big Sky was my hands down favorite. I've lived here for eight years, my first two winters as a ski instructor. Having decided to stay full-time, I started a construction consulting business and a landscaping company. And I still work as a part-time ski instructor.

Lee Griffiths purchased this condo in 2004

Why Lee Griffiths chose Big Sky

I used to live in DC, which has some of the worst traffic in the country. My commute could be 1-2 hours, sometimes more. When I moved to Big Sky, I wanted to be able to walk to the base area in minutes. I wanted to be 2 minutes from the closest ski lift and I wanted to be able to ski home. My neighbors are ski-in/ski-out, so I would ski down their trail, cross the street, and walk in the door.

What makes this condo unique

Right out the living room window is a fantastic view of the Mt. Wilson and the Spanish Peaks range. At sunset, after the Mt Village is in the shadow of Lone Peak, the alpen-glow illuminates the Spanish Peaks.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5
We had a great weekend visiting Big Sky and this condo was perfect for us to use as a home base for our explorations. The owner was very friendly and helpful. We followed his "Perfect Day in Yellowstone" directions and truly had the best day. The condo had all of the amenities we needed, was clean, and well maintained. We would definitely come back and stay here. We want to try skiing in Big Sky now!

Nice place

  • 5 of 5
Was a little worried after reading the reviews but I talked with the owner and felt confident renting it. The place was nice with new carpet and floors. Kitchen had the basics. The wifi worked fine and the one night we stayed in the TV was fine too. The other families here were friendly and the locals were very welcoming everywhere we went.

Nice place

The condo was clean and basic. For us, the wifi worked fine. We took the free shuttle as it would have been a 5 minute walk carrying gear to the base area. Good deal for the price.

Do not stay here

  • 1 of 5
Would NOT stay here again. Only positive is that it is close to Big Sky Ski Resort. Not necessarily walking distance- especially if carrying gear. Major negatives: very DIRTY (stain on walls, toilet stains, dirty shower, paint chipping off walls, dust everywhere, dirty couches/chairs, stains on sheets and comforter!, dirty windows- can see drawings made by kids when windows had condensation on them previously), bare minimum cooking utensils for staying there for a week, noisy neighborhood (loud cars/trucks), revving engines in middle of night), shower with alternating low/medium pressure and hot/cold temps, no pets per owner but everyone else has pets there, old towels for showering/smelled like mildew, very small (500 sq feet probably), pictures do not accurately portray actual dwelling. Did I mention dirty!?

My biggest complaint: NO WIFI. I specifically emailed the owner asking if there wasn't WIFI because some of the comments from visitors mentioned wifi. He replied "most people don't have issues with wifi and I have a wifi booster." He failed to mention that you have to buy daily or weekly wifi from local telephone company. Owner is deceiving- could have easily mentioned that in his reply email. Appeared that owner lives in building across parking lot and when we complained about wifi he walked over and dropped off the wifi booster he probably just bought from electronics store. This was weird to us and awkward.

Owner willing to be deceiving to customers to make $$$$. This is unfortunate.

Words of advice: do not rent this place.

Owner's Response: I'm very sorry that you did not enjoy our condo. Our listing specifically states that no pets are allowed. Our condo allows pets for owners but not renters. When you tried to bring 2 dogs and were told you couldn't have them, you got very upset and I'm sorry that writing a false review is what you feel is appropriate. Since your experience with the wifi was so bad, I have changed internet providers and we now offer FREE WIFI to all our guests. While we do have DirecTV with 100+ channels, I apologize that it wasn't enough for your interests. There is a channel listing next to the TV and in the guest book that lists the channels, so you don't have to surf through the infomercials. That's also why the condo has a DVD player, games, and books.

Solid condo, close to lifts, sparse on some basics

  • 4 of 5
We stayed here for a week for skiing at Big Sky, and this is a great condo. It is clean, bright, and has great access to lifts. I only have two minor things to note (and the reason this is not a five star review):

1) The lack of internet access is definitely a downside. You can buy access from 3RiversWifi, but their service is unusably slow and unreliable (and tech support not helpful). We ended up either going to the main lodge or tethering off phones to get basic email.
2) The condo is a little sparse on some basics (for example, we had to buy kitchen garbage bags as there were none, and there was nothing to help store food, such as saran wrap or foil). These little things were not a big deal, but still nice to have.

Overall, we've had a great experience here and would definitely consider coming back, especially if the condo (or we) come up with a better internet solution.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review.
Other guests have used 3Rivers wifi with no problem, but as you said the signal can be weak. We have installed a wifi signal booster that makes the 3Rivers wifi signal stronger.
Kitchen garbage bags are in the lower level kitchen cabinets. All our guests are welcome to call us with any questions if they need help finding something or otherwise. We don't supply saran wrap or foil, but there is a convenience store 300 steps down the road.

Great ski condo

  • 5 of 5
This great ski condo is right next to Big Sky Resort, about a 5 minute walk to the base area. We were able to ski back to the condo at the end of the day, which took some navigating but was easy skiing. For the 5 of us, for the money, this was half the price of the resort.
