I escaped Washington DC ten years ago and spent two winters skiing all over the world. Having skied 50+ resorts, Big Sky was my hands down favorite. I've lived here for eight years, my first two winters as a ski instructor. Having decided to stay full-time, I started a construction consulting business and a landscaping company. And I still work as a part-time ski instructor.
Lee Griffiths purchased this condo in 2004
I used to live in DC, which has some of the worst traffic in the country. My commute could be 1-2 hours, sometimes more. When I moved to Big Sky, I wanted to be able to walk to the base area in minutes. I wanted to be 2 minutes from the closest ski lift and I wanted to be able to ski home. My neighbors are ski-in/ski-out, so I would ski down their trail, cross the street, and walk in the door.
Right out the living room window is a fantastic view of the Mt. Wilson and the Spanish Peaks range. At sunset, after the Mt Village is in the shadow of Lone Peak, the alpen-glow illuminates the Spanish Peaks.
We spent a great week in Big Sky and felt very comfortable in this condo which was very clean, bright, tastefully decorated and well maintained. The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of dishes and utensils including garbage bags, Saran Wrap, foil etc.
The Wi-Fi worked great for us and the owner was very friendly and helpful with his recommendations. We are planning to return here this summer.
We had a great weekend visiting Big Sky and this condo was perfect for us to use as a home base for our explorations. The owner was very friendly and helpful. We followed his "Perfect Day in Yellowstone" directions and truly had the best day. The condo had all of the amenities we needed, was clean, and well maintained. We would definitely come back and stay here. We want to try skiing in Big Sky now!
Was a little worried after reading the reviews but I talked with the owner and felt confident renting it. The place was nice with new carpet and floors. Kitchen had the basics. The wifi worked fine and the one night we stayed in the TV was fine too. The other families here were friendly and the locals were very welcoming everywhere we went.
The condo was clean and basic. For us, the wifi worked fine. We took the free shuttle as it would have been a 5 minute walk carrying gear to the base area. Good deal for the price.
Would NOT stay here again. Only positive is that it is close to Big Sky Ski Resort. Not necessarily walking distance- especially if carrying gear. Major negatives: very DIRTY (stain on walls, toilet stains, dirty shower, paint chipping off walls, dust everywhere, dirty couches/chairs, stains on sheets and comforter!, dirty windows- can see drawings made by kids when windows had condensation on them previously), bare minimum cooking utensils for staying there for a week, noisy neighborhood (loud cars/trucks), revving engines in middle of night), shower with alternating low/medium pressure and hot/cold temps, no pets per owner but everyone else has pets there, old towels for showering/smelled like mildew, very small (500 sq feet probably), pictures do not accurately portray actual dwelling. Did I mention dirty!?
My biggest complaint: NO WIFI. I specifically emailed the owner asking if there wasn't WIFI because some of the comments from visitors mentioned wifi. He replied "most people don't have issues with wifi and I have a wifi booster." He failed to mention that you have to buy daily or weekly wifi from local telephone company. Owner is deceiving- could have easily mentioned that in his reply email. Appeared that owner lives in building across parking lot and when we complained about wifi he walked over and dropped off the wifi booster he probably just bought from electronics store. This was weird to us and awkward.
Owner willing to be deceiving to customers to make $$$$. This is unfortunate.
Words of advice: do not rent this place.
We stayed here for a week for skiing at Big Sky, and this is a great condo. It is clean, bright, and has great access to lifts. I only have two minor things to note (and the reason this is not a five star review):
1) The lack of internet access is definitely a downside. You can buy access from 3RiversWifi, but their service is unusably slow and unreliable (and tech support not helpful). We ended up either going to the main lodge or tethering off phones to get basic email.
2) The condo is a little sparse on some basics (for example, we had to buy kitchen garbage bags as there were none, and there was nothing to help store food, such as saran wrap or foil). These little things were not a big deal, but still nice to have.
Overall, we've had a great experience here and would definitely consider coming back, especially if the condo (or we) come up with a better internet solution.
