Private home with best location on the island. This is a quiet, walking, bicycling neighborhood. A cheerful, comfortable house with large yard surrounded by large trees, private backyard. The master bedroom is large(wall removed between two bedrooms), the large screened porch has ceiling fans. The eating areas, both off the porch have large sliding glass doors that slide into the walls which gives you the feeling of eating outdoors. Plenty of storage space for luggage & incidentials in the utility room. More space located in enclosed, 2 car garage. A separate office allows you privacy and keep cluttered projects from sight by just shutting door. Utility room also has washer, dryer & utility sink. The kitchen is spacious with eating area, & window overlooking backyard. We have a birdfeeder located off the porch for bird watching(sea birds, cardinals, parrots & if you're lucky-bald eagle. We've also spotted fox, armadillos, bobcat, rabbits.

PRACTICALITIES: ON THE ISLAND MINUTES AWAY BY CAR FROM THE HOUSE

There is a hospital in case of an emergency. The grocery store is located across the street from the hospital. The library has computers available as well wi-fi.

AIRPORTS

Other airports to consider are Ft Myers(60 miles away) and Tampa(100 miles).

Orlando(Disney World/Epcot) is 4 hours away. Connected by interstate highway.

CRUISES

Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Miami

POST OFFICE and BANK only 3 blocks away.

Venice Island Beach House In Old Florida Neighborhood 2 Blocks From Beautiful Beach and Downtown.

Venice has been rated one of the best places to retire in the USA. There are plenty of varied things to do & see. The town of Venice is old & quaint with plenty of nice restaurants and shopping. Venice beach has a snack bar and covered eating area, changing rooms, life guard. The water is clear, and calm. The beach is not crowded. Take a long walk along the beach, fish, collect shells and sharks teeth, to the Jettys for a hot dog. Activities are held at the beach,e.g., morning yoga, evening concerts, art classes. There are various frequent events held in Venice.

6 public tennis courts are 2 blocks away & numerous golf courses located just a few miles away. Live theatre in Venice or Sarasota(30 miles). Caspersen's Beach is a mile away on the island and is unique in that goes for miles with no building in sight--gorgeous!

Day Trips-Boca Grande, Sanibel Island, Ringling Museum

Our daughter said it all when she arrived for a visit: "I feel like I just walked into a set from the Dick VanDyke Show." It was comfortable but dated. More importantly, though, it was AFTER we had signed the contract and sent the full amount that the owners (who are really very nice) said "Don't open the windows." I immediately called to ask why and was told that the windows are old and the hardware in danger of being broken and there are no screens...and anyway the two big sliders could be open to let in plenty of fresh air. Well, yes BUT....the two sliders are in one end of the house and the bedrooms in the other. There is no air flow and to make it worse there are no ceiling fans in the bedrooms. And in any case, regardless of haw safe a neighborhood it is, who would want to leave the sliders open all night?? We also found a "For Rent" sign in front of the house which the owners wanted left there so people would know to look on "Home Away". We agreed to that but after the third person peering in the living room window we put the sign away. Between the master bedroom being practically airless and with black-out shades and no curtains feeling like a tomb, it was not comfortable, regardless of its large size. If you want a phone or cable you have to deal with Comcast and make the arrangements yourself; a royal pain. As I said, the owners are very nice but they are asking premium rent for a house with some major shortcomings.
Owner's Response: Most people would like to step back into Dick Van Dyke's house. Our home is typical of many Florida homes as shown by the many detailed photos. They give a very good representation of the house, i.e. the large master bedroom shows the shades and no curtains or fan. People in Florida use their air conditioners and don't open their windows. The numerous past tenants have found the home very comfortable and concerns noted have never been an issue. Previous tenants have liked the blockout shades for sleeping and privacy. The shades can be raised during the day to let in the glorious Florida sunshine. The home is very bright and open. Future tenants can expect to find a fan in the master bedroom for their use if they feel a need for it.

The rental sign that shows the HomeAway listing number is used as a marketing tool for prospective future tenants. We do not allow the house to be shown to future tenants while someone if in the house. If a current tenant objects to the sign being posted during their stay, it can be taken down.

Comcast--We pay for the connection fee($50), and the tenants have the account in their name and choose what they want from the comcast menu. That gives the renter flexibility. Comcast has a full range of services: including cable tv, phone, and internet.

I'm truly sorry that they didn't like the house. They are going to be hard pressed to find a nicer Venice home in this prime location at the price they paid.
