Carol purchased this studio in 1998
Old College friends bought this property for me and held it until I could pay for it. A great 'drinking story' if guests are ever really interested in hearing this one!
This house is in a residential setting but so very close to local micro-breweries, Fort Worden, golf course and more. The view of the bay is mesmerizing. Lots of Bambi's abound.
I stayed for a month beginning in mid February in this lovely retreat and could not have enjoyed it more. The Holcomb Hideaway cottage is a beautifully decorated efficiency style apartment with lots of windows, a sitting and dining area, and a darling sitting porch with views of the lagoon, Port Townsend and the bay beyond. Owner Carol was exceptionally nice to deal with and went out of her way to make me comfortable. The large queen sized bed had a great mattress and linens, the bathroom was spotless and the kitchenette had a microwave, toaster oven, fridge, toaster, coffeemaker and hotplate with pans -which I used to cook everything from salmon to pasta to eggs to stir fry veggies. There's also a gas grill right outside the backdoor, and laundry facilities are right downstairs in the lower level utility area. The hot tub was being repaired so I did not use it but it looks to be large and enclosed within a gazebo type affair. The back and front yards are great and include decks, several sets of tables and chairs, a hammock, and paths through the beautiful landscaping that has obviously been tended by a dedicated gardener. Just before I left, I saw hummingbirds flitting about! Also on the property is a small house which is also rented out. I had great "neighbors" during my stay and visited this darling home several times. Port Townsend itself is very welcoming with numerous cultural and recreational events, two movie theaters and lots of great shops and restaurants. I even got temporary memberships at the Food Coop (about .5-.75 miles from the cottage), and was granted a temporary library card. What a great place to visit and relax in! Thanks so much Carol!
Carol was there to greet us as soon as we got in to town. The check in time was flexible, she let us know via email that it was available early and we gladly accepted. She had asked of our dietary restrictions after we made the reservation. I am gluten and lactose intolerant and was pleasantly surprised by the plethora of gluten and dairy free snacks awaiting us when we arrived, she really did her research and picked out some fantastic products. The house was really comfortable and inviting, and it had all the amenities you could need. She even had fresh cut flowers of various types around the house. The hot tub was a welcomed bonus at the end of our day. I will most definitely stay here again next time we come to Port Townsend.
We loved our two-day stay here. Carol was so accommodating and welcoming. She provided wonderful supplies for the kitchen that set us up for breakfast, snacks and dessert. The room was very comfortable and homey. And the property is absolutely gorgeous! We went on a great whale-watching trip (Pueget Sound Express) and saw dozens of orcas. Go to Port Townsend and stay here.
This property exceeded our expectations. It was clean, well appointed and comfy with many special touches. The view of the sound and the lagoon from the living room window and the front porch was amazing--especially in the morning mist. We enjoyed the beautiful landscaping which included the abundant front garden and a magical Buddha fountain in the backyard. The owner, Carol, was a delightlful and engaging hostess. She greeted us warmly with a basket full of goodies and a detailed tour. We felt at home immediately. She went above and beyond the call of duty several times, providing us with umbrellas so we could walk in the rain and hooking us up to her wireless printer so we could print our boarding passes. The only negative is that it was over way too soon. We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend to our friends.
My husband and I had a wonderful time staying at Holcomb Hideaway! We went for a quiet anniversary trip and it was perfect. Carol's 'goodies' supplied us with a romantic picnic on the beach! The cottage was clean and cozy, and have everything needed for a long weekend stay. Wish we were there right now!
Our weekend stay here was an excellent experience. The property is a snug cottage with all the amenities, and quite comfortable for 2. A friend also stayed with us Friday night, and with the sofa bed out, it was a little crowded, but not painfully so. The gardens are amazing, and given the nice weather, we were outside for much of the weekend anyway. Thanks for a lovely weekend.
Local Wineries, Farmers Market on Sat and Wed Weekly, Many Festivals at Fort Worden State Park through Centrum.org, Quilcene Concerts in the Barn Series, many local poets, writers, playwrights, and musicians. Breathtaking views of the Straits of Juan de Fuca and the Salish Sea. Glass Beach is a great shore side hike for shelling and collecting glass pieces hewn by the ocean.
