THIS COTTAGE HUGS YOU

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I consider Blue Bird cottage a "Home away from Home". It is decorated with heart and soul to give a feeling of peace and comfort that we all want while on vacation. As Americans living in The Netherlands, we visit annually to check on our retirement property located in near the cottage. During our first stay, Eddie and his partner Thelma, welcomed us into their home and hearts; we are blessed to say that our first friends in VA are truly awesome.

Just a few side notes:

I am a runner thus must say for FYI to other runners: the area is flat, fast and easy to do a quick morning run. An out/back from the cottage w/o traffic is 4 miles, using small side roads off the "out/back" can give another mile.

If coming to this area for the first time I recommend reading "Off 13" by Kirk Mariner. Eddie introduced us to this book, we had to buy a copy for future use.

We did "take out" from "Little Italy" in Nassawadox. Missed having good pizza (not a Dutch thing), "Little Italy" filled us up with good, cheesy, crusty slices.

A WONDERFUL WEEK AT THE BLUEBIRD COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5
What can you say about Eddie and the Bluebird Cottage that hasn't been said already? Eddie met us on our arrival, helped us get settled in, gave us a lay of the land and treated us to bottle of wine form one of the local vineyards (which we visited during our stay). The cottage was just as described, comfortable and cozy, well appointed and all the amenities we would need for the week. We visited Cape Charles and ate at each of the the two marina restaurants. Both were good stops, a visit to the more upscale location (can't use names in the review) is definitely a must, good service and good eats. We spent much time in and around the water. Our kayaks were easy in and easy out at the dock and we even brought home some of our catch for the dinner table. Eddie made sure we were well taken care of and was more than ready with dining and tourist advice (stay away from Tangier Island, we learned the hard way). He even took me fishing so I could catch the biggest Red Drum i'd ever caught. Fresh oysters, crab and flounder from the bay was all we could hope for. There is plenty of driving to be done to see the sights, but we knew that going in to it. Kiptopeke made for some nice beach time and was almost deserted at the end of the summer. Make sure you bring what you want to the cottage as the round trip to the market is almost an hour. If you think you might need it, bring it. All in all, we would definitely return as you depart feeling like one more of Watts family!

BEST VACATION EVER!

  • 5 of 5
This was our first vacation in 5 years, so we really wanted it to be special. Superlative! The cottage is better than pictured. The location is wonderful. We fished from the pier (caught croakers and spots), visited the local winery, took naps, used the wifi to tell folks at home what they were missing...and so appreciated the gentle, gracious of Eddie. Booking again as soon as we get home to check our calendars! If you're looking for a quiet place on the water, look no further.

THE PEARL OF MACHIPUNGO

Wow! What great getaway. The cottage and surroundings are gorgeous, very clean and comfortable. The afternoon bay breeze is lovely enjoying it in an adirondack chair. Eddie, your hospitality was second to none. Thank you for the incredible fishing trip and dinner. I feel Alan and I have made new friends.
I cannot wait to come back!

PARADISE IN PARADISE

  • 5 of 5
While searching for the perfect place to spend our honeymoon, we were lucky enough to stumble upon this charming cottage. We read the reviews and knew right away it was the place for us.
We have rented many many places on VRBO and each time we were left brochures of the area to find our way around. While there were brochures at our cottage, they were not necessary! Eddie was all we needed. He pointed us in all of the right directions. He not only acted as a tour guide, he greeted us with a nice bottle of wine from the nearby winery, brought freshly picked crabmeat, got us a boat charter with an awesome captain. After our fishing trip, he helped clean our fish, and sent us home with his specialties of oysters and clams. The list could go on and on!
The cottage was perfect! Clean, comfortable, well decorated, with all the comforts of home.
EVERYTHING you read in the previous reviews are true and then some. We are already talking about returning as soon as possible!

Bluebird Cottage is the perfect place for quiet times and relaxation. Eddie was the perfect host. I was there for three weeks catching up with work, preparing for professional exams and relaxing. The clams and oysters were unbeatable. The stars at night were amazing!!
