This one-story three bedroom, three bathroom home is more than it appears. Getting to it, you drive through the main part of town, and turn into a quiet residential area full of single family homes in a historic district of Taos. The homes in the neighborhood are beautifully landscaped.
Walking through the front door, you enter a foyer with a closet that can hold your coat. You turn right and find yourself in a cozy living room with the seating area focused upon a lovely adobe fireplace. A skylight adds natural light to the room, and there is a stereo system compatible with Ipods. The room is decorated with art by Taos artists.
Walking through the room, you'll find a doorway on the left that leads to the bedrooms. The master bedroom, with a queen sized bed and a private patio features a private bath and ample closet space.
The other two bedrooms, one with a king sized bed and the other with a queen, share a large bath, complete with jacuzzi tub . All of the bedrooms feature exposed vigas on the ceilings and artwork from various parts of the US.
Back into the living room, there are two doorways on either side of the fireplace that lead to the long dining room. The centerpiece of the room is a massive dining room table that was custom made by local artisan Robert Lavadie. The table seats 14 people comfortably, and massive picture windows and French Doors look upon the breathtaking portal and patio outside.
The portal and patio are the central feature of the nearly acre fenced back yard which is great for kids and dogs. An acequia, which is the New Mexican method of irrigation, flows through the yard, past the towering cottonwoods. The backyard also features a bocce court to the left of the patio.
Apple trees scattered throughout the yard bare fruit, and foliage abounds. The patio and portal area is massive. Built in banquettes line the edge of the house in the shaded portal area, and there is seating around a round table. Further, the patio offers more seating, and there is a large gas barbecue grill that can accommodate most outdoor cooking. There is also a kiva fireplace in one corner which allows for use of the patio year-round. Off to the side, there is a large hot tub that is perfect for cold winter days and evenings.
The kitchen, which is past the dining room, is large and features a commercial gas range and plenty of counter space. It is fully equipped and stocked with cookware, baking ware, serving pieces, and cutlery. The refrigerator is ample, and the microwave and toaster are conveniently located.
Off the kitchen, there is a den area, complete with a comfortable queen-size sleep sofa and seating.
A flat panel television, with cable and DVD player is available in this room, though it may also serve as an additional sleeping area.
The mud-room has a washer and dryer, and leads to the basement, which is fully furnished with five single beds and a full bathroom, It is a great area for kids.
Thank you for your input. We can learn from your comments. Management frequently leaves keys posted in envelopes with the name and information about the house and yes she did have the name of a future guest but it was quickly resolved. A valve froze and thawed in the yard-almost an acre but had been repaired. We are sorry about the water heater but the plumber repaired it within an hour. I don't know what to say about the rodent droppings since we have NEVER seen rodents in or near the house and the manager saw water spots on the counter about 4 hours before you arrival so she cleaned all the kitchen counters and left her assistant to finish up sweeping the floors. Her policy is to inspect every unit the day it will be occupied and she said it was clean. We are sorry you felt a need to wash 8 sets of sheets and however many towels but that was not necessary as they were freshly laundered. We try hard to give everyone a pleasant stay.
Enjoyed our stay very much. Lovely home and spacious for our extended family of eleven. Beautiful patio and backyard along with a much appreciated hot tub. Loved our stay in the beautiful town of Taos!
I WOULD MAKE SURE PROPERTY WAS CLEANED PROPERLY! MAKE SURE MANAGEMENT KNOWS YOUR NAME BECAUSE THEY LEAVE KEYS ON FRONT DOOR WITH A NAME ON IT I HAD TO CALL EMERGENCY NUMBER ACCOUNT KEYS WERE LEFT FOR SOMEONE ELSES LAST NAME. THE CURB APPEAL IS NOT THERE LOOKS LIKE AN ABANDONED HOUSE AS YOU PULL UP KINDA SCARY WAS THE OPINION OF WOMEN IN OUR FAMILY, SECOND NO HOT WATER ACCOUNT THERMAL COUPLER WAS OUT AND THIRD A FLOOD IN BACK YARD FROM YARD IRRIGATION ??? PLUMBER WAS SENT OUT TWICE IN TWO DAYS,WE SPENT THE FIRST NIGHT SANITIZING AND CLEANING BECAUSE THERE WAS RAT OR MICE DROPPINGS EVERYWHERE, INCLUDING ON COUNTERS, WE SWEPT AFTER WE WENT AND BOUGHT A BROOM AND FINDINGS UNDER COUCHES AND IN TABLES WAS REDICULOUS! SPENT FIRST NIGHT WASHING BED SHEETS AND TOWELS JUST TO MAKE SURE! I WOULDNOT STAY AGAIN JUST BECAUSE WE HAD TO CLEAN IT TO FEEL COMFORTABLE! MAYBE IF PROPERTY WAS MAINTAINED AS PHOTOS APPEARED IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER STAY?
The hosts were extremely helpful with the accommodations and sharing special things to do. Casa Solis has plenty of room which accommodated two families with teenage kids and still had room to spare. Highly recommend Casa Solis!
The house and yard are lovely. Unfortunately, inside had not been cleaned in quite a while. Housekeeping didn't touch one of the bathrooms and there is a large mold problem in both upstairs baths. No response from rental agency when called to come and clean up and bring supplies such as TP and trash bags. Won't rent from that rental agency again.
